OT: Working Remotely/Snow Day Open Thread

Submitted by redwhiteandMGOBLUE on

My entire office (10 people) is working remotely today due to the snow storm currently hitting lower Michigan. Anyone else working from home, snowed in, playing hookie?

Please feel free to vent and share your travel horror stories if you braved your way into work today.

immediately followed that of "Hail2thevict0rs", in which he talked of the big potholes he hit today, I was really expecting (and kinda hoping for) an in-depth report from you on the location and depth of all the potholes.  Instead, all we get is a football depth chart.

Wasn't too bad and M-59 was surprisingly manageable at least on one half of the road (big accident coming from Pontiac to Utica between Squirrel and Adams Rd, just one lane to go through). I work in Auburn Hills so I only had to go about 18 miles or so to get to work. Just waiting in the break room now though (shift starts at 10).

My shift starts at 7. I left my house at a little after 5, just beating the snow. I was here incredibly early, but my awesome employer doesnt provide parking, so i got in a structure before you have to pay as well. Also i will probably be forced to work a double, so hopefully the roads will be clear by 11pm

After going stir crazy working all of last winter remote, I decided to work exclusively from the office this winter.  What a stupid freaking year to decide to make that decision...

We are waiting for our blizzard to hit. I work from home anyway so my day will be normal until noon when the kiddos arrive home from preK, hopefully ahead of the storm. I will use the time before then wondering if the Broncos will just admit how badly they want to be the Patriots. First Welker, now Talib. I expect John Fox to debut a ratty old hoodie any day now.

I work at UM.  I live by Colonial Lanes.  I braved the half mile commute and came in.  Still sucks.

I start work at 7:30 and I-94 was flowing better than I expected. My cube is by a window so I just watch an endless (seems that way) stream of snow. It's crazy that Opening Day is only 19 days away!

  1. I have too much time on my hands...but interesting nonetheless
  2. I went back and forth on some of the RS Sr.'s - I know it's inappropriate to say they're not coming back, especially 2 years in advance, but some of them just don't make sense. That said, I wasn't trying to offend anyone...I simply wanted to know what the depth chart would look like if they weren't here since it cannot be assumed.
  3. More of those "Sr.'s" popping up...so weird.
  4. We need a big time OL recruit in this class (or 2)
  5. That DL gives me the heebee jeebee's...WHEW! That's some (potential) depth and pass rush...FINALLY!
  6. The LBs are a mess - I think either Furbush or Winovich moves to WDE. Ferns moves to WILL and maybe McCray to MIKE. Who knows at this point - but it won't look even close to this.
  7. Potential lock down CB due with and Jr. Lewis and Stribling behind them. We could finally have a #NoFlyZone.
  8. This group also looks solid.
  9. We have a potentially VERY solid team already and won't have to rely on ANY freshman to play early (except kicker). You can't look at one position (except kicker) and say "we need a freshman or RS freshman to come and play early."
  10. Our schedule sets up VERY well in 2015 too...toughest games are at HOME.

I'm in Connecticut, and we're only supposed to get a bunch of rain and a few snow showers.

On a side note, naming a winter storm "Vulcan" might be trying a bit too hard in the irony department. Do less, weatherheads.

As a contractor, Company policy states that contractors aren't allowed to work from home, so if the campus (Levis Park Campus/Owens-Illinois World Headquarters) is closed, you still don't paid like the salaried workers.  Got to work before the level 3s were issued (Lucas County/Toledo).

We are in Washington, DC and our flight home was canceled. Our 4 year old son did not come with us and I am really looking forward to getting home to see him. We had fun while we were here though and got quite a few Go Blues when we had our UM stuff on!

I work from home permanently.  My cars take about 3 years to reach 10k miles.  So, I trade in vehicles about every 20 years.  However, my couch needs replacing about about every 2-3 years.

Working remote but not playing hookey unfortunately.  Our street still hasn't been plowed and the mail truck was out there spinning around in circles.  We didn't even get anything but junk.

One of my twins sleeps in the office right now and with the desktop being the only computer with remote access I am working around her nap schedule.

went out. I decided to wait it out at home hoping it wouldn't be for long. 5 hours later, it finally came on. Now I have catch up work to do.

it snowed 3 feet one day.  we kept the office open, employees could come in if they wanted to.

it's snow, not bullets, it'll be okay.  just stay away from the idiots.

I went to work (after a dental appointment, UGH) but I gently protested by wearing loungewear. A colleague came in jeans. It helps that our boss is out of town.
