OT The Wire as a Victorian serial novel
Check this out if you're a fan of The Wire. A critic's review (very well) written as if the show was a Victorian novel.
Omar was hands down the greatest thing about that show! He will be missed...
BTW, that was brilliant
That kid dashed the hopes and dreams I had for the end of that wonderful series. It doesn't pay to smoke...
I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase.
Thank you very much for posting this. Best TV show, ever. Anyone who hasn't seen it is a Dan Fool.
I would definitely agree--my favorite show ever. It's at the highest echelon as far as quality and imhe nothing other than Deadwood and maybe Freaks and Geeks even comes close.
In what Jersey Shore does for exposing the Guido culture to America, The Wire ten-ups it by exposing urban black culture to America.
And a lot of it being based on true stories doesn't hurt, either. Anyone who thumbs their nose at TV clearly hasn't seen The Wire.
And anyone saying the Sopranos is better is Italian.
I'd recommend checking out both The Corner and Homicide: a Year on the Killing Streets, the two books that David Simon wrote before the Wire. They're both fantastic, and many of the characters and stories (and even some of the dialogue) of the Wire were drawn directly from those books.

The Wire is great. I'm starting Treme this weekend actually, and loving every minute of it. For those of you who have yet to watch it, I highly recommend giving it a try.
