OT: The Wire Smacketology

Submitted by Bobby Digital on

Just when I think Grantland couldn't possibly be any dumber, they go and do something like this…and totally redeem themselves.

Bubbles over Clay Davis?? Sheeeeeit. Omar's a lock, but those other one seeds look vulnerable! Wouldn't put it past The Greek to sneak back in this thing, though... he's crafty like that. The Wire!

What the voting was based on:

After review, I’d say that you should vote based on the following criteria:

  • Gulliness: 50%
  • Spine-tingling/goosebump-inducing scenes: 20%
  • Depth of character/uplift factor: 20%
  • How badly you wanted them to win The Game: 10%

I can't see anyting past the top few comments.

But this is the stupidest bracket ever. They left off some pretty significant people (Randy? CARVER???) to put in people like Brother Mouzone who was in no more than 4 episodes. The seeding is ridiculous. Snoop was a 3 seed? How the hell did she get seeded above Cutty or Lester?

In any case, this is all pointless, since you know it's going to come down to Omar vs. Stringer and Omar is going to win.

No Slim Charles, no Carver...the bracket itself is kind of bogus. They really should've gone to 64. I'm not going to comment on picks because...we're not going to agree.

As an avid Wire fan, this is a joke.  Bubbs a seven seed?  McNulty a three?

Also, who votes on this has actually watched the Wire?  Cutty over Partlow?  Bodie over Marlo?  Come on man.

Maybe I'm just a bit biased, but Brother Mouzone as an 8 and out in the first round seems a bit low for me.

Final 4 looks to line up as Omar vs Avon (who I think should have lost to Pryz...) and McNulty vs Stringer Bell.

Looks like it'll then come down to Omar vs Stringer, and we all know how that'll go down.

McNulty as a 3? No way. They got so much backlash for the seeds and failure to include people such as Carver that they had to defend themselves in this post: http://www.grantland.com/blog/hollywood-prospectus/post/_/id/44995/the-mike-schur-rebuttal-bracket-and-some-smacketology-faqetology

In the defense of the selectors, it would be damn near impossible to assemble a bracket of only 32 characters and do so in a way that didn't piss some people off. That being said, the proposed bracket (and seeds) contained in the post I linked, as an alternative to the real bracket, is much better IMO. I'd have McNulty, Omar, Stringer, and then...man, not sure who that 4th #1 seed should be (in hypothetical 64 bracket). Lots of strong contenders. Bunk, for sure; Avon; Levy; Bubbles...Okay, Bunk or Bubbles. Probably Bubbs.

Omar is a mortal lock - better chances than Kentucky.

God, this was the best show ever on TV - it's reminded me how much I miss it.

Biggest insult - Bubbles at 7th seed.  He should have been final four all the way but ran into McNulty.  Once more, Wallace's life gets screwed.  Damn Wire.

Surprised they didn't put Prop Joe in his East Baltimore region.  That said, it's nice to see Michigan represented with Jeremy Gallon coming in at a 3 seed in the West.
