OT - Wings/Sharks Game 5 Open Thread

Submitted by MGoShoe on

Do or die part deux for the Red Wings at 10 pm EDT/7 pm PDT.

At the NHL.com preview, Henrik Zetterberg states:

"Last game is last game. There's going to be a new fight tonight and it's important to go out and take charge right away."

Mike Babcock echoes the theme:

"We won a game and now we have to re-establish that here tonigh. I think the start is very important, so you have to be prepared for that and I think you have to put your will on the other team."

Game on.

This team seems motivated and spirited after the game 3 loss. Not sure if that means they will win, but I like the changed Babcock made for the last game. I guarantee we win if Franzen scores 4 goals again.

Early start for an open thread....... Hopefully they go into tonight with the "backs against the wall" mentality they also had in Game 7 against PHX and Game 4 of this series. I think they will prevail once again.

Sharks certainly had the better of the Wings in the first period.  Wings simply were not dangerous at all.

The Wings need to come out and set the tone here. Don't give the Sharts a bunch of PP's this period.

...this time Brad Stuart gets 2 min for elbowing and the Sharks tie it up.

Joe Thornton collects the rebound, resets and scores.  1 - 1.

I know that some of these penalties are legit, but this whole series has been one long parade of Detroit players to the box.  Since Detroit was not a particularly penalized team in the regular season, you have to wonder where this is coming from.

And as I type this, another ticky-tack penalty.
