OT- Wings sign Mike Green from the Washington Capitals

Per the Twitters The RedWings sign Mike Green for 3yrs at a cap hit of $6mill per year.  Nice to see them actually make a move instead of kicking the tires for once.

Now you're going to see another player, other than Fedorov wearing 91. Tell me you don't feel dirty just thinking about that. Like you walked in on your mom banging someone who wasn't your dad.

I think the situation in Detroit is a good one for Green to try and rebound in. He played his best hockey when the forwards in Washington were responsible for their defensive assignments. He'll be going to a place which that's job 1 among the forwards.

He'll also never have the #1 defensive assignment in Detroit and will get a ton of PP time.

I doubt he gets back to his 08-09 form but I think he could pick the pace back up a bit.

I like them.  Green is an upgrade over anyone on the roster on the PP, and Richards can still contribute - think about some of the guys who have been taking a regular shift with the wings the past five years. He can't be worse.  If he doesn't play a ton it is probably a good sign about some of the young guys too, so no loss at one year.  Now if they could dump Ericsson and Howard...

True. Richards at one year is pretty low risk. He did play well in the playoffs this year but was surrounded by talented experienced dudes. Years before that he was non-existent for the rangers in the playoffs. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Green is also relatively low risk at 3 years and is a definite upgrade on the PP. plus he is a righty.
