OT: Windbreakers: Ever owned a Michigan one?
I myself have owned a Michigan windbreaker when I was little growing up in the 90s and if I recall correctly these were the items to wear during the football games and tailgates from 1980 to 1999. However when I grew up I then realized how HORRIBLE they looked and even the name never sounded right and to be honest they were the worst things to wear during a storm. Have any memories wearing these? You still own one? I've always wanted an opinion on these.

Yes. Yes.
In that order.
[Nicer edit with actual information: It was my dad's (i.e., Section 1's), and it's roughly as old as I am. It is not what i would call stylish, but I do like it. It has actual buttons instead of snaps, one of which I almost ripped off trying to unsnap it the first time I wore it.]

Oh yeah, I had a Starter pullover windbreaker back in my day. The funny thing is that my mom still wears it every once in a while.

They're cool again. My sorority and a few others have striped maize and blue windbreaker quarter zips with "(Greek Letters) University of Michigan" on the front. Ours have a fleece lining so they're actually pretty nice for the cooler fall games, and the front pocket has more storage space than a cargo short pocket and none of the shame of wearing cargo shorts.

What's wrong with Cargo Shorts?!!?!??!

Everything.

Cargo shorts have enough pockets to hold everything except a conversation with a girl

"Nobody has gotten a hand job in cargo shorts since 'Nam!"

That's not true.

Cargo shorts. I just don't care. Cargo shorts now, Cargo shorts tommorow, Cargo shorts forever. Dress me in Cargo shorts for my viewing.

Just stick with jeans. You can't go wrong with jeans.

cargo shorts on an attractive young lady are a crime.
Guys wear cargo shorts because they don't have anywhere else to haul their cell phones, etc. i.e., a practical necessity.

Standard shorts = 4 pockets. Keys, wallet, cell phone, gum/rubber. nothing more needed. works perfectly.

Talk about a sticky situation!

I had a Starter windbreaker as a kid as well that I got from Eastbay catalog. I wonder if they still make those things.
EDIT:
Found one on ebay. Classic.

I think I saw a homeless man wearing this exact model the other day. He'd probably be happy to know he could get $22 plus S&H for it.

Is where it's at. I found the one I got in 4th grade a few years ago and found $10." and the receipt from Ready to Die by Biggie. Damn that will make you feel old!

And my cargo shorts may never be the same again.

That...
I just can't get past the "when I was little" and "in the 90s" being in the same sentence.

No I break my own wind just fine, thanks for asking.

My wife would say that I am a Michigan wind-breaker. <shrugs> I never minded them as a kid, they were decent in fall, when things first got a bit chilly but might have a chance to warm up. Otherwise they are not that useful a piece of clothing.

I own multiple maize and blue windbreakers. I love them. Long live the 90's!

my wife's mothers house in Italy and wear it there when I am cold. In Italy, anything American is stylish.

I stood too close to the gas wall heater and it melted before school one day.
(I know cool story bro)

A thread about windbreakers is screaming for cool story bro.

I had one made by Starter circa 1993 that my mom bought me from TJ Maxx. I loved that thing. What's funny is back then, a lot of teenagers where front runners and wore jackets, coats, and hats of teams that won a lot of games or championships, or had sweet looking logos. Saw lots of Michigan, 'Bama, UNLV, Duke, UNC, Miami, Raiders, and Bulls (ugh) gear.

94-95ish. After my first one was stollen out of my locker in junior high, my mom had a great idea and had my full name stitch on the front of it.....I stopped wearing it after that.

I own (and still regularly wear) the same one worn by Coach Hoke in this now-iconic "MGOBLOG HOKEPOINTSATSTUFF" photo:

I think I bought it at either a TJ Maxx or a Marshall's...in Georgia.

is WAY OT, but the windbreaker thread isn't even really OT, because it's talking about MICHIGAN windbreakers.
We make our own fun.

(since I was an undergrad in the late 70s), but never owned a Michigan windbreaker. I went with a M sweatshirt and a real jacket that blocks the weather over the top when needed. I had a blue one that looked as good as Columbo's top coat back in the day. What a droopy, crappy mess it was. Just screamed "stud" to the ladies....
Of course, the cool jacket to have then was a Baracuda (sp?) jacket. Went well with docksiders and other preppy gear that is in style these days for students.
