OT: Will Tom Brady coach after his playing career?

Submitted by Sauce Castillo on

In hopes to keep us from going insane upon upcoming signing day I thought I would bring this up.

ESPN ran an interview Tom did with Chris Berman earlier this week in which Berman made reference to Harbaugh being the HC at UM and if Tom was taking the job over after his playing days are done.  Tom just laughed it off, but never said he wouldn’t be open to the idea.

Tom Brady is a hyper competitive person very similar to Harbaugh and has a strong love for Michigan.  He also has more money than he knows what to do with and a super hot wife who he would probably much rather spend time with than be on the recruiting trail.  Does anyone think this could be a possibility down the road? I'll hang up and listen.

He'll have already made his millions in a routine of long, stressful days of constantly keeping in shape and meticulously studying opponents' game film. No need to make millions more in a more stressful routine where you also must convince 17-18 year olds to come on board and keep 18-22 year olds from doing stupid stuff in their free time.

Now ... I do think he'd be a great ambassador for U of M football.  He could be a contact the coaches keep in their back pockets to help convince elite QB prospects to come to M.  Or he could run a QB camp at U of M for high school QBs.

Honestly I don't think he's thought about the end of his career yet. He doesn't think about it yet because in his mind, he will play forever. Let's wait until Father Time decides to force him to hang up his cleats, give him a while to discuss it with his family, and then check back.

I could see Tom sending his kids to UM and/or endowing a bunch of scholarships. That's about it though.

He could play till he is 50 and win ten more championships. He could be president. He could become a doctor and cure cancer. He could join NASA and take us to Mars. He could even lead the Patriots to a Indy 500 win in a bus.

Did I miss the memo where all Michigan fans must view Brady as the second coming and clearly the greatest Michigan man of all time? I am glad the guy has been successful but would not mind if the love fest was held in check at some point.

I think he could be a successful coach short term, and do something like Madden/Gruden where they have a short successful career, then realize they can make more sitting next to Bradshaw and Howie on tv

Let's be honest here, Tom Brady probably wouldn't have to do alot of pandering to recruits. He would just invite them into his office, have them sit across from his desk where they could only see him through a 6 inch slit inbetween his MVP's, superbowl MVP's, player of the year awards , ect. At that point they would discuss the recruits success on the field at which point brady would pull his hand up from behind the desk in Joe Montana commercial fashion saying "what an accomplishment". No one gets out of that room uncommitted

34 and has already popped a couple kids out. If anything, I wouldn't be surprised if Tom trades for a younger girl. Since she's so rich, he'd probably get a nice chunk of cash out of it as well.

How so? It's pretty standard practice throughout history for a man who becomes wealthy to divorce for a younger woman. I have a couple friends whose fathers built companies worth more than $25m, and both hit age 50 and decided to divorce and marry younger women. It's simple human nature for a man to separate himself from a woman nearing menopause in order to continue spreading his seed(especially if he can provide for more children).

Honestly, the annoying thing about this line of thought is the assumption of what's going to happen. Nobody knows what's going to happen when Tom Brady is 50 years old, and it doesn't really matter at this point. It's outside the realm of this thread, and it's just pointless, somewhat irresponsible conjecture at this point.

I doubt it. The greatest to play usually dont coach because it gives an opportunity to tarnish their legacy. "He was a great player, but wow what an awful coach."

The players that were heartbroken and really close to being great are usually the ones who coach because it gives them the opportunity at redemption. "Man he came so close as a player, but what an amazing coach!"

Jim played at a different time with a different salary.

I cant think of too many NFL superstars who are in coaching right now.  Guys who retired in the past 10 years.  I know Elway is a GM.  But its differrent then the old days ith the magnitude of money you make.  If you are a NFL star, going to be a position coach and making $200K a year while you spent 4-6 years working your way would seem like a ludicrous way to spend your time.

And no its not all about the money but yes a lot of the time it is all about the money.

More likely to be coaches are guys like Mike Hart would have a drink of water in the NFL, made some scratch and then start from the bottom in coaching.  Its a lot easier just to go straight in the booth - easier hours, no stress, everyone (almost) loves you.

If anyone can name guys who made $100M+ in career earnings and are coaching in the NFL in the past 10 years I'd love to hear a list.  Maybe I am missing some people.  NBA you seem to have a few guys like I. Thomas and Larry Bird who did it but even that was guys from the 80s when the salaries were different.  I cant imagine a Tim Duncan coming back and coaching.

I'm not married, so have no personal experience. However, I'm sure Tiger is a bit like Chris Rock. He said something like, "I'm married, and haven't had pussy in seven years! I've had vagina. I hate vagina! I was born out of a vagina!"

No matter how hot she is, there's some guy tired of having vanilla sex with her.

I honestly think he is going into politics down the road.  I am struck how little advertisements he does and it makes me wonder if he is doing that to not upset some constituency down the road.  You see goofy looking Manning in a commerical for everything on earth (granted Manning is a funny guy in a dry way) while Brady who is GQ is barely in anything.

I also cant imagine Giselle living in Green Bay or Cincinnati  or wherever when Brady works his way up the coaching tree.

but I just don't see him dealing with all the BS that goes on in politics or even coaching at the college level either.  I could see him as a pro QB coach for a while, then as a fashion designer in a business he forms with Gisele.

know what he does? jack shit. same as joe montana.

Might open up some steak joints or something to play around with in his free time, but if you're the best ever, why would you come back and announce or pander to HS kids.

Those of you saying he'll coach at Michigan are pounding the M kool-aid.
