OT: Wild Win in Minnesota

Submitted by the_big_house 500th on
If your a Wild fan than you obviously know that the Wild lost in an 8 round shootout giving the Wings a needed win snapping a 3 game losing streak. The Wings have now had 4 close games in a row, each of the three losses losing by only a goal. This time they won by a goal. Action for the Wings went underway when Todd Bertuzzi recieved a give and go up ice to run away with it on the break away and score the Wings first goal of the game. But the Wild would come back to tie with a goal from Robbie Earl to knot it up at 1. Patrick Eves on a wild slap shot from near the point would give Detroit the 2-1 lead early in the 3rd. Then from a pass from Meech to Miller Detroit would jump ahead 3-1. Late in the final period Minnesota would go on the attack with two goals each a minute from eachother thanks to Martin Havlat and Andrew Brunette. Tied still after overtime both teams deadlocked 3-3 would go to an 8 round shoot out where the new addition Drew Miller would score to break it and give the Wings a much needed 2 points and end a 3 game losing streak.

Glad to see the wings get the 2 points - they really deserved it and mostly controlled the game (although the Wild moved the puck well). The Wild got goals off (1) either a shoulder or a skate after the puck hit the back glass, (2) off a skate after a stick deflection and (3) after a popup in front of the goal that Brunette gathered and stuffed home. 3 almost fluke type of goals. Would have been a shame not to get the two points.

And you would have to think that the Wings were definitely discouraged after losing 3 in a row each by only a goal. Plus in each of the three losses they outplayed their opponents. This win was much deserved and needed. Also gives the Wings a chance to regain some momentum in their up coming matchups against LA and Phoenix.

If I DVRed the game, this is a thread title that would make me delete it without watching it. I watched the midnight re-air on Fox Sports Detroit and they edited out two of the three Detroit goals. The Wings had lots of odd man rushes and breakaways. They could have had five or six in this one. Just like the game against Washington. Not getting those two points really hurt. If the Wings beat LA on Saturday they will be in 7th place, with the best days of the season probably ahead.

It was a good win. I was listening to NHL radio on the way home from working in my lab last night previewing the game. The commentators were basically writing off the wings due the Wild's 13-3 home record before the game (now 13-3-0-1). Hehehehe....

This is a bit embarrassing for me but I turned the radio off when the Wings were up 3-1 with about 8:00 to go so that I could watch "Jersey Shore". Bad move on my part, good game for the Wings.
