OT: Wife Day this weekend
For any new folks on the board, this was one of my favorite posts
http://mgoblog.com/diaries/preview-wifeday-2010
It was a great way to think of the bye week, which for us is basically the weekend when we aren't watching the Michigan game religiously.
This year our to-do list is already longer than will get accomplilshed (Painting! Shopping! An architecture boat tour!) Who else is going to be too busy this bye week?

This is why i don't have a wife.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:33 AM ^
Thad Matta. That explains everything.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:21 PM ^
No, I don't think this is the reason you are wifeless

Nooner this Saturday!
Yes, toe meets leather at noon as WTKA will again rebroadcast a classic Bob Ufer MEEECHIGAN Football game, this one from exactly 39 years earlier (10/15/77) vs Wisconsin.
Earlier today I tweeted WTKA inquiring about this, just got my answer a short while ago.

I love Nooners!

We're going to a beastfeeding class for our first child on Saturday... and I'm fine with it.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:33 AM ^
Don't feed the beast!!!

Locked in now, nicely done! Anyway, when we're up at ungodly hours I'm sure she'll feel like a beast sent to punish us.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:47 AM ^
They do these classes before the kids are born now? How times change.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:51 AM ^
The hospital we're using does, but it's a large academic center. I don't know if it's normal for regular community hospitals to do these types of things or not. I'm happy that they had the foresight to schedule it during the Michigan bye though.
October 10th, 2016 at 3:47 PM ^
I hope your kid isn't a teenager... that's just downright creepy.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:01 PM ^
shouldn't that be pretty intuitive?

But it's not (always) so simple for some moms due to many possible complications.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:54 PM ^
No, or they wouldn't have classes, books, and breastfeeding consultants. There are plenty of ways to do it wrong and only one way to do it right. Not to mention that there are various issues that the baby can have that can cause their own complications.
Or so I've been told anyway. Guess we'll see on Saturday.
October 10th, 2016 at 1:39 PM ^
geez, i'm suprised the human race made it this far without all these classes
you know there also are classes about how to make millions in real estate. a famous one called euchre univeristy or something, heard it's pretty good.
October 10th, 2016 at 3:22 PM ^
We're also past the point in civilization where you need to rely on trial and error for a great many things. When I can save my wife pain and discomfort (thereby saving myself pain and discomfort) by sitting through a class I'll do it. I'll assume you're not married... as Yoda stated "much to learn, you still have."

was my wife pumping breast milk. I walked into the living room and there she was, milking herself like a cow. I was actually brought to my knees with laughter. I wish I had taken a picture or video. Luckily she has a good sense of humor.
So prepare yourself for that.

Human beings don't work very well. There are some weird END IF statements written into our code. And a lot of those programming gaps revolve around childbirth.

My wife's friend was nice enough to plan her fall wedding during the bye week. So we will be having a great time at a beautiful fall wedding. Open bar so we all win.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:50 AM ^
I've got a friend who did the same. I even told him thanks for scheduling it on UM's bye. And with the late start against Rutgers, got to do some family stuff during the day so it made the wife happy.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:00 PM ^
I have a friend who did the same. She's a planner so everything was set a little more than a year in advance. Then about 2 months later Michigan announced they were moving the bye week from Sept 24 to the current Oct 15.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:01 PM ^
Same here. Wedding this weekend. My friends have learned not to schedule important things they'd like me to attend on Saturdays in the fall unless it's during the bye week.
I'm not joking when my buddy called me back in April and asked when Michigan's bye week is.
October 10th, 2016 at 1:31 PM ^
has her wedding this Saturday, too. She and her fiancé are Michigan fans and got it right by scheduling it on the bye week.
YAAAAAY!!!
October 10th, 2016 at 11:35 AM ^
Oh and I need to add that the bar is stocked with all the best Michigan brews.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:35 AM ^
I'll be making grilled bloody marys Saturday morning, working around the house, and then watching the primetime games, presumably with the wife.
October 10th, 2016 at 2:51 PM ^
I don't know if pouting vodka on a hot grill is a great idea.
Seriously though, what is a grilled Bloody Mary?
October 10th, 2016 at 11:36 AM ^
Saturday is Kid-Day, just like every Saturday, whether we have a game or not.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:36 AM ^
I'm in Germany without my family, so I'll be spending Wife Day '16 in Brussels.

You better be hitting up some of the best breweries in the world while you're there.
October 10th, 2016 at 6:47 PM ^
Only an overnight and my coworker is planning the trip. He's a consumer of good beers, so there will be plenty of enjoying it.
Thanks for the suggestions, though. I've passed them on to him.

I keepz my bitch in diamonds and cognac on the regular......
October 10th, 2016 at 11:37 AM ^
I'm punched (ha).
October 10th, 2016 at 11:37 AM ^
I'm thinking my wife would love to watch Alabama-Tennessee and Ohio State-Wisconsin.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:39 PM ^
And this is why I'M not married. I haven't found one like this.^^
October 10th, 2016 at 3:51 PM ^
...and fetching you beer and nachos?
October 10th, 2016 at 11:38 AM ^
no 'honey do' list as we got the corn harvested and we aren't 'harvesting' the cattle until next month. in effect, there is no such thing as wife day at the XM house, but not because she is not worthy of the honor, but because we are way busy anyway.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:02 PM ^
I'd think you were my dad. Their "off" time is usually busier than my work week.

They're discontinuing their coupons! I blame you.
October 10th, 2016 at 12:20 PM ^
Why not Home Depot? This guy did.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:41 AM ^
It's my girlfriend's birthday, so we're going to go out to lunch, watch football, and host a small party. Pretty much a dialed-down version of any other Saturday.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:41 AM ^
I really don't enjoy apple picking, cider mills, or really anything related to that activity. My girlfriend has been begging me to go for 2 years. I usually spend 12 hours per day on Saturday and Sunday during football season.
It's time for me to pay up. Garage cleaning, apple orchard, AND her friends having a wine tasting party at night Saturday. I'm not a religious man, but please pray for me.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:45 AM ^
I never thought I was into that stuff either until I moved somewhere that doesn't have apple orchards and I really miss it. There's really nothing like Michigan apple cider. That's not something you can get anywhere.
October 10th, 2016 at 11:57 AM ^
if you're in the LA area i'd recommend checking out Oak Glen, there's all those kinds of things

I'll google it, thanks.
EDIT: "LA area" is a bit of a stretch - that's 120 miles from me. One of the things I miss about it is the ease of doing it. A 2-3 hour drive away probably won't work. I appreciate the tip nonetheless.

i see, it's about 1.5 hours from downtown on a sunday morning
