OT: Why I came to MgoBlog

Submitted by RollDamnTide on

I thought I would take a couple minutes to explain why I started posting on MgoBlog. Mostly, it was to just see how Michigan fans were reacting to the upcoming game with Bama. My other reason, was to follow recruiting from another view point. I'm a huge recruiting nerd, so I find those things interesting. My Dad went to grad school at Michigan, and he always wanted me to go at some point. I didn't, choosing instead to save my Dad a considerable amount of money, and going to UofA. I've always respected Michigan's program, and you guys have done nothing to refute that thought. And while I don't get into the hockey/softball/and kitten pictures, the site gets a great thumbs up from me.

I've despised Ohio State since I was a kid, since we went to the 95 citrus bowl between Bama and Ohio State. Their fans were really obnoxious, and these two grown men from Ohio  made fun of my Derrick Thomas Bama shirt. (The most prized possession I own, is a jersey signed by Derrick himself, so he's a big deal to me.) My Dad and Uncle being your typical quick tempered southerners, quickly asked them if they wanted to "Continue the conversation outside the stadium".

I'm actually in Michigan until May right now for work as well, so it's cool to get fully involved in all things Michigan. I'm happy to talk about any questions y'all may have about Alabama, not that I'm an expert, but I'm happy to try.

Some important notes to know before you classify me as a fan.

-I'm not a fan of over signing

-I love Nick Saban, but I don't approve of the methods in which the SEC uses to succeed

-Yes, Bear Bryant is God in Alabama

-I graduated from the University of Alabama in 08

-Yes, I understand my fellow Bama fans are eccentric, but at their heart, they really love college football.

Thanks for having me, guys. If this is too off topic, please delete it. I just wanted to set the record straight about why I started posting here, because some were commenting on it.

If an enemy of your enemy is your friend, next year we're squaring off against Bama in the opener, so Bama will be our enemy.  If Bama is our enemy, and Ohio state is their enemy, wouldn't that make Ohio State our friend, being the enemy of our enemy?!

No no no, that doesn't add up at all.

Edited for trolling: Glad my jokes are appreciated

I forgot about that Neanderthal (apologies to Neanderthals). What in the name of all that is holy would make one a) record oneself doing/saying that and 2) post it on the effing internet. It bottles the effing mind.

It kills me to think people like that have gotten the best of Um for the past decade - fairly or not.

"boggle the mind?"

Oops, now I find this from IMDb's "Memorable quotes [sic.]" from Blades of Glory:

Chazz: Mind-bottling, isn't it?
Jimmy: Did you just say mind-bottling?
Chazz: Yeah, mind-bottling. You know, when things are so crazy it gets your thoughts all trapped, like in a bottle?

At least the Bathroom Buckeye didn't film using a bottle.

I think he'll end up staying. I didn't think that two weeks ago, but I do now. I think the new offense is attractive to him. I really thought he'd end up at Arizona with Jedi Spread, but I think he wants to stay. The word around campus, is that he had a lot of maturing to do, and Saban's intense nature really took a lot for him to adjust to.

I'm a lifelong Michigan fan and season ticket holder.  I attended the Orange Bowl in 2000 and sat amongst some very cool (and pretty drunk) 'Bama fans.  I've been to one SEC home game -- LSU v. Western Kentucky this season.  Despite being a lesser game on LSU's schedule it was a lot of fun.

For a midwestern fan of college football, what stadiums/matchups would you recommend checking out?  I've heard that the Grove at 'Ole Miss is a sight to behold.

the 2000 Orange bowl was an awesome game! I remember the announcers brought up the fact That Michigan was Shawn Alexanders second school of choice and that got me intersted in recruiting.

I just found out today i won't be attending the Michigan vs. Alabama game in Jerry world. I was going to be attending a class at Abbott Laboratories in Dallas but my work cancelled the class. Looks like i'll be watching it on T.V! . RDT when dealing with bama fans you are the exception to the rule. I hope you guys lose a close game in week 1 , but make no mistake I want to win that game more than ANY game on the scedule next year.

If you are ever out in Arizona , Arizona state is a fun gameday atmosphere. The girls out here are unbelieveable. If the heat doesn't bother you then you can also enjoy a game of football and near naked hot college girls runnign around drunk.

Yeah, thats bad ass right there.  Whenever I hear "Sweet Home Alabama", I sing it in my head like that.

Me and my buddy took a roadtrip down South this summer just to see a different part of the country.  Went to UGA( the girls...damn!), Auburn (sorry man), and LSU.  When we crossed over into Alabama from Georgia, we blasted "Sweet Home Alabama" and shortly after I ate Sonic for only the 3rd time in my life.  Good times!

I've been to a couple UT-Bama games at Neyland, and it is undoubtedly the second best environment for a college football game that I've witnessed in person. (I'm sure you don't have to guess at the my first choice...) Stick around after the game in September, I really enjoy an even-keeled outsiders perspective. Maybe you will eventually achieve Irish stature around here.

81 Michigan graduate here, and have been down to Ole Miss to see a number of games as my mom and extended family live close to Oxford, MS.  Definitely a different atmosphere from Michigan, but unique and interesting in its own way.  Lots of the college age guys are dressed in tie and jacket,  and many of the college age women dress up as well.  Gotta go down to the Grove before the game to here the band play Dixie, and then hear them all chant "The South shall rise again!"   People are very friendly, and you can bet you will get food and drink offered to you even if you are a Yankee like me!

Something not to miss if you ever get the chance......Sort of like the exact opposite of Columbus.....

....was a beast.   One of the all-time best (collegiate and pro).   Hang on to that jersey for the long term (as an added bonus, you can search this site for shirt/jersey care tips that will ensure the long-term health of your jersey.  Seriously.).

Attempting to get a jump on an Mgoprofile by Six Zero?

You'll have to be around a while longer before people start clamoring for that, but I wanted to stop and say welcome. Your humor has certainly been welcome and appreciated around here. Start posting as much original content as you can and people will be clamoring to get to know you better.

Stick around, this place gets crazy the week before the season starts... You will undoubtably be in the crosshairs for that week :-D Cheers!

I think you provide a pretty outstanding point of view. Since you've joined, your posts have been interesting, occasionally funny, and well thought-out.

It's great to get a rational non-homer viewpoint from someone with other allegiances. You'll find there are several quality posters around here who are fans of ND, MSU or OSU - as well as a couple others. Irish has/had his moments, WatersDemos is always a good read, and there are others I can't come up with off the top of my head.

Just the same, welcome. It's good to have you here.

I hope you continue posting after you go back to bama and the game is over.  Its good to here opinions from an unbiased opinion on your team.

the blog is much more focused during football season. There's definitely a palpable lack of purpose and a sense of anxiousness during the offseason.

I've always liked 'bama the most out of the SEC schools. Now, Sabans made that really hard recently but I love the uniforms and history of the program. Glad to have your here,

I think Saban actually moved down Alabama on my "List of Schools Who I Hate Because They're Not Michigan" (that being a good thing for the Tide).  He's such an asshole but in the end he's the hardest worker out there and just wants to win.  He also is a defensive mastermind and his teams are the best in the country by playing tough, physical, and fundamental football.
