OT - who is your biggest tourney upset?
Anyone but Sparty winning would be the biggest upset. I do believe they could win it, but like most Michigan fans I hope like hell they don't.
they're injured and the refs keep putting their guys in foul trouble...
Oh wait - the excuses are SO B1G Season ago.

:/
So this year's team doesn't have guys that play hard?
I kind of want to see them win if Michigan doesn't just to sit back and enjoy the aneurysms of the Sparty obsessors on this blog.

I don't feel that way. I don't feel that way at all.

The obsession and needlessly bringing them up in each and every thread is getting to be nauseating and making this blog unreadbable.
To be fair, in this thread the question is biggest upset. So bringing up a 4 seed that talking heads are penciling into the championship and calling for an early exit fits the definition.
That said, yeah. It does get a little heavy here.
Sigh.....I picked those bastards to win in my pool and then my brother (who usually makes no sense in these matters whatsover) correctly pointed out that for $10 why would I want to root for somebody to win that I hate?
So now I've got MICHIGAN taking home the trophy baby!

I have Cincy over sparty !!!!!
Go Blue!
And would destroy all the bandwagon staee brackets in our pool.

Congrats on your clairvoyance!
but if you picked mercer you are well read my friend.

I have North Dakota State in the Sweet 16 for no reason other than their football team's record vs. BCS AQ conferences.
I have Sparty going down to Delaware in their first game. Not just because I'm a Wolverine homer, but because they really do strike me as a team that will crumble as soon as they taste the slightest hint of adversity (ie - Appling stubs his finger, Dawson punches a wall after getting called on a iffy foul, etc...). Ok, fine. It is because I'm a Wolverine homer.
Additionally, I have Kansas bowing out to the 15th seed E. Kentucky. No rationale behind it, just a weird gut feeling.

If Kansas can make it through the first weekend, they'll get Embiid back and have a real shot to go very deep. However, whether it be against EKU or in the round of 32, I just think they're too vulnerable without him and will fall. It's not too big of a deal to me if I just get a game or two wrong because of Kansas, so for your sake, I hope I'm wrong as well.
NC State to the Sweet 16.
I have this as well.
I wanted to go Mercier over Duke, but I want to play them in the sweet 16 real bad. Death to dook.
Without realizing I have picked all four 12's over 5. I am a dumbass.
Biggest uset is probably Nebraska(11) over Creighton(3).
I really like UW-Milwaukee over Villanova. Also, if Embiid does not play for KU, which looks that way, then I would not be surprised to see them lose New Mexico, assuming of course they beat Stanford.
I have Kentucky over Witchita, not the biggest upset. I'm fairly chalk this year because I feel like there's a very big gap between the top 12ish schools and everyone else.
I am in multiple pools, but in various iterations of the brackets, I have some stranger ones perhaps like Dayton over Ohio State, Virginia over Michigan State, Oregon over Wisconsin and Nebraska over Baylor (not all in the same bracket, of course). I also have one where Iowa State bests North Carolina too.
One of the real upsets might be a deep run by Wichita State - I still have trouble seeing it, though I mapped a scenario or two out.
March 19th, 2014 at 10:29 AM ^
I don't see Virginia over MSU as an upset - they are just as physical and are playing at a fairly high level right now.
Of cours, we can hope that Tommy's Harvard team, assuming it gets past Cinci, can put a stop to Staee even before it comes that that.
as well as ASU over Texas and Kentucky over Wichita State.
and New Mexico to the Final Four (I have VCU over Florida earlier)
Some upsets I picked:
-Pitt over Florida, SF Austin over VCU, OSU to Final Four (I know), New Mex over Kansas
-St Joes over Villanova
-NDSU to the sweet 16, Nebraska to the sweet 16
-Tennessee over UMass
And I have just realized that my South region is a mess.

OSU as in Ohio State??? Or Oklahoma State? I am an OSU fan and I think that's nuts. Just curious, what do you see in them that makes you think they can beat Dayton, Syracuse, New Mexico and Florida (assuming you have UF reaching the Elite 8)?

Haha, touche.

I see only the randomness of the Big Dance. It just worked out that way in my bracket, Ohio State would have to beat Dayton, Syracuse, New Mexico, and UCLA.
Who is going to hit outside shots?
March 19th, 2014 at 10:23 AM ^
OSU to the Final Four is about the most risky pick I've seen here so far (and I picked a 15 seed over a 2). As one of my friends told me, "If Ohio State can lose to Penn State twice this season, they can easily lose to Dayton once."
Dayton over OSU, Stephen F. Austin over VCU, NC State over St. Louis, Nebraska to the Sweet 16, and I'm toying with Mercer over Duke.
The biggest "upsets" I have are Providence making it to the Elite 8 (where they lose to UVA), Tennessee making it to the Sweet 16 (where they lose to UM) and NC State beating Louisville to make it to the Elite 8 (where they also lose to UM). Oh, and I also have NC Central beating Iowa State in the round of 64.

to win it all. Kentucky over Wichita St.
March 19th, 2014 at 10:21 AM ^
Kentucky beating Wichita State is not an upset; Kentucky went 34-0 in the regular season didn't they? /s

I have Cuse losing to Western.
I thought I was the only one. No explanation for the Syracuse tumble, so maybe Western can take advantage of whatever is going on with the Orange.
boredom. Michigan was undefeated for about half the season last year, much like Syracuse. The season than got long and old, Michigan started saving up reserves and we were an afterthough going in to the tournament.
Syracuse took half the season off. I very much believe they are every bit the team that played the first half of the season.
