OT - Who will win the AFC East next year?
So the draft has come and gone and I feel really good about what the Pats did in the draft. Hernandez is going to be amazing, and Mesko was sorely needed for field position. Also, Holt was a great pickup in free agency, having only played 9 games last year and still racking up over 700 yards. But it looks like the Dolphins and Jets have caught up (at least on paper) with them. So what do you guys think? I figure there are a bunch of Pats fans and Dolphins fans on this board because of Brady and Henne (and Long), and everybody is curious about how Warren will end up doing with the Jets.
Patriots 11-5
Jets 10-6
Dolphins 8-8
Bills Really Really Bad

Braylon and Harris lead the way. DW gets it done on special teams and (yes) back up safety.
Harris might be my favorite NFL player, but I've gotta go with Tombo and the Pats.
The jets are gonna sweep the AFC East. There gonna drop Revis, Cromartie, and Kyle wilson into coverage and blitz 8 including bart scott, david harris, and jason taylor. On offense, they have Ladanian Tomlinson, Santonio Holmes, and Braylon. Not to mention the best offensive line in the league.
I am a huge Jets fan.. but to try to be unbiased: They have arguably the 2 best cover corners in the league (2 best overall if cromartie could tackle). They have Jason Taylor and Bart Scott to pass rush and David Harris to be a run stopper in the middle. And they have LT (one of the best RBs ever running behind the best OL in the NFL) and Braylon and Santonio Holmes (a superbowl MVP)

Yes we have Revis, but Cromartie is anything but a sure thing on the other side of the field. He is not one of the best corners in the league by any means. Also, you cant put that much stock into a rookie Kyle Wilson without seeing him play a down of pro ball. LT is past his days of being the best back in the league, and Jason Taylor has also lost a step.
I think the Jets will have a very successful season, I just don't agree with your rationale.
I liked it when I used to look at a picture like this and think "Fab five". Now I just see.."Screwed up Michigan Basketball for 10+ years...." Makes me sad...
LT WAS one of the best running backs ever. More than likely he's getting old and slow and that's why SD released him, not a change in game philosophy. If I were a betting man, I would probably bet Thomas Jones had more productivity last year than LT will this year.
I'm not sure the Jets' O-line is the best in the NFL. Top 5, but I wouldn't say "the best." Maybe the best at run blocking.
Jets' secondary is going to be lights-out, but that's really the only area of ridiculous caliber. I'm not sold on Sanchez.
It's also a little to cocky to use the word "sweep" when you're in a division with both the Patriots, who can crush anyone when they're executing properly, and the Dolphins, who seem to be armed with the Jets' kryptonite.

i hope they decide to put 3 DBs on the field vs the pats, cuz moss will have 1200 yds and 10 tds next year, even with double coverage, Holt will benefit from said double coverage (800+ yds, 5+ tds) and welker will tear up the middle of the field like he has done the past 3 years. add in hernandez who is a athletic mismatch with 50% of all safeties and 100% of all linebackers and the jets are going to wish they had a few more DBs out there. now if they could do something about their running game.

will duke it out for division winner - but both will be in the playoffs.
Dolphins will be around 8-8 or 9-7, I think they will be on the outside looking in come playoff time.
Buffalo - is just gonna be terrible and their Foghorn Leghorn GM will be picking at the top of next year's draft. 3-13 if they are lucky, they are not winning a division game.
If the Patriots can shore up their defense, then it's their division to lose.
The Jets are a trendy pick, but it all depends on if their defense can be good like they were last year and they can establish a solid run game and not rely on Sanchez to throw them to a win.
The Dolphins are truly dependent on their run game. If Ronnie Brown cannot make a comeback after knee surgery I do not see them turning into a passing team that wins 10 games.
The Bills are just the Bills... so... yeah...
The only weak position was the corner spot opposite Revis, and now they have added Kyle Wilson and Antonio Cromartie. Putting up more than 20 points on that defense will be pretty damn near impossible for teams not from Indiana or New Orleans

I'm a Pats fan, so obviously I have to trust in Brady and Belichick, but I'm very excited to watch Henne next year. I have a feeling he is going to do very well in Miami. Brady will definitely find a way to beat the Jets secondary. LT is one of my favorites, but he has indeed lost a step (or 5).
Plus, Pats + Mesko...can't top that.

Patriots 11-5

Dolphins 9-7
Bills 4-12
The Jets do have a spectacular defense- but can they play that same way this season??? They could....but I still think the Brady Bunch is the team to beat!

I have to go with the Pats restoring order to the East with the Jets and Dolphins being competive the whole way and one of them snatching a wildcard. The Bills, well the Bills have issues

They had the best defense in the league last year, more than 30 yards per game better than the next best team. They led the league in rushing. Their passing game was dreadful, but they had a rookie QB who will almost certainly be better.

Jets will win it. They have a great running game and now have Braylon and Santonio. Even if Sanchez is just ok, they will score a lot. Their D is one of the best in the league. The Patriots' D isn't great. They're still good enough to get 2nd though. Miami will be good, assuming Henne is at least servicable. They have Marshall now. Ronnie Brown and R. Williams are good. Their D could be better though. The Bills will suck. I'll say, without looking at their schedules, that the Jets will go 12-4, Patriors 10-6, Dolphins 9-7, and Bills 5-11.

Whats up with all these ridiculous jets fans predicting dominance this year? I'm not a fan of the AFC East or even any AFC team, but let's recap last year:
Their team finishes the regular season 9-7, and should've finished 8-8 because the Colts absolutely gave away the game (which they were winning before Peyton went on the bench) due to a dumb coaching decision. They also got a free win against the Bengals at the very end of the year, but since the Jets beat them in the playoffs we'll assume they would've won that anyway.
Then, this 8-8 team goes into the playoffs and beats the same overrated Bengals team and beats the Chargers who choke EVERY year in the playoffs. Every year. So, because they beat one good team in the playoffs which is a known choker, all of a sudden an 8-8 calibur team should be a favorite in the AFC? I didnt realize adding a corner from Boise State who spent his entire career shutting down WAC receivers or a middle-of-the-pack receiver in Santonio Holmes was enough to put them over the top. Jets finish at best 10-6 and have zero shot at winning the superbowl. If they dont get to play the Chargers in the 2nd round they wont even make the AFC Championship game again.
Patriots. Zoltan Mesko. That is all.
i am a jets fan and i think we will finish somewhere between 9-7 and 12-4 depending on how things click. dominant run game + defense has the makings of an elite team.
dolphins have no weaknesses and the pats have a dominant offense and a terrible defense.
it'll be a great race to watch. all three teams definitely have potential to win 10+ games
i can't believe there isn't more buzz about the Dolphins.
Brandon Marshall is the perfect choice for a number 1 target. He & Boldin would have definitely made the most difference for chad. Big bodied posession receivers. I actually think that if they keep Ginn & Hartline around, those guys will get open looks to stretch the field while Marshall patrols the midrange posession routes.
Chad has an incredible opportunity to make a name for himself next year. That team should be very exciting to watch.
The Phins d will keep them from taking the NFC east, IMO, but a wildcard berth should be more than attainable. They'll finish somewhere between 9-7 and 11-5.
Just kidding. I think the Dolphins, Pats and Jets will all make the playoffs.
The Dolphins and Pats could make some noise, but the Jets' have a solid offensive line, the best defense in football, and a couple of bonafide threats on the outside (ironically one is from osu and the other is Braylon).
I think the Jets will roll to a 13-3 record, with Sanchez taking a big leap.
I think the Dolphins go 11-5 with Henne having a solid year developing chemistry with Brandon Marshall.
The Pats should be around 10-6. They have a lot of holes, but coaching and a solid aerial attack will carry them to the playoffs.
