OT - Who should win Heisman?

Submitted by Gameboy on

Now that the regular season is over for CFB, who do you think deserves to win the Heisman?

I've seen my share of games this year (at least 2 or 3 games for all top candidates), and the best football player I have seen this year is Robert Griffin III - bar none. I think this kid has more tools at his disposal than any college QB I have ever seen, better than Cam Newton for sure. I have never seen his combination arm strength, accuracy, size, and athleticism. The kid is a freak.

To me, Barkley is just Clausen 2.0 and Luck is Barkley + Toughness.

Richardson is very very good. But I can't tell how much is him and how much is the 5-star offensive line in front of him. He doesn't look particularly elusive. Is he really any better than Ball? i don't know...

What do you think? It was supposed to be a runaway for Luck, but I think it is going to be close.

I agree. RG III, Montee Ball (over Richardson. 15 more TD's!), Honey Badger and Andrew Luck should be invited, but RG III should win it all. More passing yards than Luck, more PASS TD's, fewer INT's, more RUN TD's, and is the reason why Baylor is winning so many games. He is having a better season and he is the most valuable player to any team in my opinion.

No way should Trent Richardson win the Heisman. He runs behind a great offensive line but still doesn't lead in any statistical category. Montee Ball and LaMichael James would be far better choices than he would. I don't want the Heisman race to become, "oh, let's just pick the best offensive player from the top two teams" because I think we're supposed to pretend it's something more than that.

I like RGIII. He's amazing. Tyrann Mathieu also would deserve it. It's nice to toss out an award every so many years to a defensive player to pretend that the award isn't just for offensive skill position players. Andrew Luck hasn't done that much this year to wow anyone, I don't think. There are a lot of players that have better stats than he does.

RGIII sealed it today for me. Remember Texas' defense was something like the fifth ranked in the country coming into today. He completely obliterated it and has been consistent all year.

Andrew Luck doesn't deserve it for playing sub par in the biggest moment of the season even though commentators continue to brush off Luck criticism by saying that his wide receivers aren't as good as they could be (maybe partially true but still no excuses). Tyrann Matthieu is a fantastic player and a game changer but it's tough when he is on a team that has so many exceptionally talented defensive players. Richardson had a great year but not a Heisman type dominating performance. Keenum should still be in the discussion but can't win for how he played against Southern Miss today.

RGIII and Honey Badger as the top 2, throw in obligatory 3rd person to round it out. RGIII wins to preserve Woodson as the only D man to ever win. However, if they give it to Honey Badger, it better actually say that on his copy of the trophy.

the best playmaker in college football at the moment. next year mark my words he16man / national championship . . . bama is the only team that truly scares me.

Montee Ball. If Wisconsin's Defense knew how to play prevent defense, we could be looking at them trying to figure out if Wilson deserves it over Ball.

RGIII has been money, though. Ball or RGIII are the top choices in my eyes.

Agree with Griffin, Luck is #2 to me. One simple question for any voter; would Alabama be better or worse if they had Luck or Griffin instead of Richardson?

RG3, and I don't think that it should be close. Denard won the Capital One Impact Performance twice this year, which is impressive. RG3 won four times! He's been nasty all year, but his only negative is that he goes to Baylor (negative in te eyes of the voters).

1st RG3, 2nd Tyrann Mathieu, 3rd Luck, 4th Richardson.

Unfortunately I think the best player is Mathieu, but LSU needed to line him up on offense a couple times (like Woodson). He is only a sophmore though, so maybe next year could be between him and Denard.

If RG3 had Michigan's defense this would be a mute discussion, but because he plays for Baylor and Baylor has no defense he will likely get robbed. THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH EMPHASIS PLACED ON TEAM RECORD! What does the frickem team record got to do with individual accomplishments and recognizing the best football player on the field? In fact, choosing only from BSC teams clearly indicates they have talent around them. You telling me Trent Richardson's yardage has nothing to do with an NFL line in front of him? Stack Andrew Luck's numbers next to RG3's...no contest.

The Heisman has far too much of a bias toward players that play on national championship contending teams. Since 2000, there have been only two players who won the Heisman without playing in the National Championship Game: Tebow and Carson Palmer. That's not fair for what's supposed to be an individual award. RGIII has more than earned it.

Barkley.

He played his best in the biggest games on that schedule and put up amazing numbers behind 3 freshmen starter offensive linemen.

Pure performance, he was better than Luck this year. But then Lorenzo White was better than Bo Jackson back in the mid-80s when Jackson won it.

Luck will win it.

Honey Badger don't care if he's invited to NYC...but seriously, I'd love to see it.  He's Charles Woodson-esque in his ability to influence multiple facets of the game.  If Mathieu doesn't get the nod this year, Miles should line him up in the slot next year...one could argue that Woodson's moonlighting on offense is what won him the Heisman.

It seems the consensus is RGIII...and I agree!  This kid is unbelievable, an incredible dual-threat QB.  He may not be as big of a running threat as Cam Newton, but he can more than get the job done (he's an Olympic-caliber hurdler, fergodsakes)!  I forget which CFB analyst said last night that he throws the best deep ball in the country, but based on all the highlights he's produced this year, I'd say they're right.  And leading the Baylor Bears - arguably one of the FBS teams with the least history of winning - to a 9-win year is the icing on the cake.

In terms of other finalists, Wiscy won the B1G championship, and Ball had what, 34 TDs?  Unbelievable, put him in!  Barkley is more than just Clausen 2.0 to me...not only is he a better QB, he's not a jerk either.  However, because of the team element to the Heisman and with USC still on probation, he should wait until next year.

I don't know if five finalists is too many, but LaMichael James and Trent Richardson should round out the group.  James had more big games on the big stage than Luck, and certainly has Heisman-worthy stats.  Luck didn't win the Pac-12 either, and I think he fell off his pedestal by not coming through in clutch situations.  And while 'Bama didn't win the SEC, that's less of a sin than not winning the Pac-12 in my book...and Richardson's TD total is nothing to sneeze at either, even if it doesn't match Ball.

Wow, I didn't realize RG3 had so much supporters. I remember a half-way through the season, talking heads on the sports radio were talking about whether or not Luck was going to win the Heisman by the biggest margin ever. Things certainly have changed since then.

BTW, if I am an NFL GM, I am praying to everything I know hoping that RG3 falls to my lap. I cannot believe that dratniks still rate Luck, Barkley, and even Jones above RG3. I think that is just ridiculous (I can MAYBE see Luck being ahead).

... because he is still so awesome.

And let's hope Dilithium findly gets it next year.  I'm hoping that the Denard we saw in the Ohio game is a precursor to the leap he makes next year.

I would have Ball or RG3 winning it. I've been pumping Ball's campaign because he's not getting enough recognition. He has 38 TDs this season including 14 in the last five games leading Wisconsin to the Big Ten title. He has 1759 rushing yards and another 256 in the air, which adds up to 2015 all purpose yards. He clearly had a better season than Richardson. In the two losses, he had a combined 35 carries. I don't think a player should be punished because his coach won't give him the ball.

RG3 had a better season than Luck IMO. Luck threw a lot of INTs. RG3 had a 6-1 TD-INT ratio AND was a big threat on the ground. I think the 3 losses does hurt his case. He was outstanding.

Mathieu has had a Woodson-like season, but he wasn't Woodson. Woodson made big plays on offense in addition to defense and special teams. He made big plays in big games. He was essential to the team's success. Mathieu was great this season and made big contributions at big times, but I don't think he was as essential (he missed a game due to suspension too). I don't see him winning, but an invite to New York is likely.

I'd like to see Ball win it.
