OT- Who do you want to draft Tebow?

Submitted by marc_from_novi on

I am so sick of hearing about Tebow. I hope he gets drafted by some rotten team like the Raiders. Who would you like to draft him?

As a life long cardinals fan I can say that Matty did get LOTS of love for the first part of his tenure in phoenix. Recently, his performance on the field, and the rise of warner, have left matt in the dark abyss of the cardinal woodshed. dude sucks. Cards need someone else..like John Kitna

I'd enjoy the ESPN coverage of a team featuring both Michael Vick and Tebow, who have been branded as a devil and saint respectively.

No, no you won't. Tebow is a big fish in a small pond right now, one of the best players to ever grace the college game and probably on the verge of winning a third national title and maybe a second Heisman trophy. In the NFL he'll be another 4th round pick... you'll hear about him only when people are discussing whether he'll be moved to another position or whether he'll even make a team.

How often do you think people gushed over Archie Griffin when he was putting up 400 yard seasons as a Bengal?

I don't know why people hate him? Blame the media. He is a great college player.

As of the question, I hope the Colts(hometown team) draft him to play Tight End or something like that.

i hope he gets invited to the draft so he can be the guy that they show on screen every pick that goes before him a la Brady Quinn or Aaron Rodgers.

I want the Bengals to draft him because one of two things will happen if they do: Either he will successfully preach his evangelical sausage to overwhelming success and quit football to become the next Joel Osteen or he'll be arrested in Middletown naked but for one sock with a loaded gun in one hand and ten pounds of crystal meth in the other.

I feel that I might be in the minority here but I really want Tebow to succeed in the NFL. I want that because Tebow is the current poster-boy (even more so than Pat White) for a running QB. If he succeeds in the NFL, then it's that much harder for other schools to tell QBs thinking about Michigan that they'll never succeed in the NFL if they got to a spread school.

Now then, obviously Urban Meyer's offense is different from RichRod's offense. But, I think that RichRod's Michigan offense will be different from his West Virginia offense (for one thing, there will be passing). So I think that if Tebow succeeds, RichRod could quite easily point to Tebow is a successful QB and tell kids that he can make them into that.

I would therefore say that I want Miami to draft him since I think they might be looking to utilize someone with his skillset. But, Henne is there and I want him to succeed more than I want Tebow to succeed.

Thus, I don't know where I want him to go. I just want him to do well.

I don't get why people hate Tebow so much. He's one of the few high profile athletes who isn't a complete shit head. At least he's in the media for doing the right things unlike other "thug" athletes. Hating Tim Tebow is like hating Jesus. People don't get sick of Jesus and he's been all over the bible for 2,000 years.

I'm pretty sure most people don't hate Tebow, they just hate how much the media talks about him. Most people probably don't want to hear about Tebow's mission trips and would rather hear something actually related to sports (the status of Aaron Corp, how Ryan Mallet is doing, how Wiscosin is doing without PJ Hill, etc. all come to mind as possible stories). But, since it's Tebow all the time, the hatred for the media (aka ESPN) for talking about him non-stop gets partially directed at Tebow.

For example, CMU's QB Dan LeFevour was very statistically similar to Tebow in 2007. But you never heard about LeFevour (because of where he played). Thus, people didn't hate him even though he was very similar. Note- I'm not saying LeFevour could've done better than Tebow in any of Florida's games.

People will insult Tebow for being a Christian but it's more about the fact that that gets shoved down our throat every time we turn on the TV. I'd say nearly nobody actually is upset that he's a Christian (I'm certainly not, I'm a Christian myself) but they are upset that reporting on Tebow's beliefs are taking precedence on the channel that bills itself as "The Worldwide Leader in SPORTS". Glad as I am that Tebow is a Christian, sometimes I'd much rather hear about sports (which is inevitably why I turned on ESPN to begin with).

Some people do hate the image that is given to us of Tebow, that of a perfect man that never screws up. Perfection can be grating, especially when you think that there's no way that he's as good as everyone says. When you hear only those positive stories, it actually dehumanizes him since without flaws he seems less human and therefore less relatable. That makes it easier to hate him because we don't think of it as hating an actual person but of hating something non-human (specifically the image given to us). For the same reason, it's easy to hate celebrities. Since we don't think of them as people, the common decency that most people try to have of not hating people without just cause is thrown away since we don't see them as people.

In conclusion, blame ESPN.

"People don't get sick of Jesus and he's been all over the bible for 2,000 years."

I disagree... I for one, am rather sick of Jesus. He's played out. So when ESPN shoves Tebow down my throat, who then shoves Christianity down my throat, I get a little annoyed. I can't wait for Tebow to get caught giving a bj in an airport bathroom or something... It'll happen, book it.

I goota agree with ya on the shoving of christian mythology down our collective throats. AND, nobody has killed zillions of people in the name of Tebow (yet).

But to foster some sort of irrational ill will toward this young man baffles me. My gourd, talk about having fun, being involved in lots of things, living large, and just being farking great at whatever one does--the complete opposite of me!

I love the kid, and maybe if Detroit drafts him, his winning attitude and talent might actually lessen or help rid the franchise of the complete despair that seems to engulf it.

you hate the media talking about him, so you wish him ill will for his life and career? What kind of assclown are you? I agree with philgodrink and WolvinLA, if you are sick of it don't make a fucking thread about it.

I think he has great skill. Good size, good speed, strong as an Ox. I'd love to see the Lions get him and find out what he can do at the NFL level. The only thing I'd be concerned about is that he would end up something like Matt Jones from Arkansas. Ok college QB, athletic freak, drafted first round as a projected WR. Had a few very mediocre years and then the arrests and suspensions started. Now he's out of football, by all appearances.

I wouldn't mind seeing him go as a low second round or high third round project, but I would hate to see them pick him in the first round.
