OT - What Sports Video Games (If Any) Are You Going to Buy This Year?

NCAA Football 13? Madden 13? NBA 2k13? NBA Live (LOL) 13? Fifa 13?

NCAA looks exactly the same as 12 for me, but i might spring for NBA 2k13.

FIFA 13, the two footballs are my favorite sports, and NCAA 13 looks like shit. FIFA 13 because it's significantly better than FIFA 12, and I can play it on my computer (I'm moving to college and probably ditching my xbox).

Well you're a spartan fan, so no one takes your opinion seriously.  j/k (or am I) but yes I did put many hours into ncaa 12 and I played a few games of the demo for 13' and I thought 13s game play was a big improvement.  Plus I like how realistic it seemed to live tv, where they would flash other ongoing games on the screen and give brief analysis of them.  I might have to disable that after awhile though, because I can see where it would get annoying.

The "problem" with PC is people were just dropping mods for the next year and people weren't buying it every year.  What they need to do is release one full version and then just issue DLC for the following years.  Every 5 years or so they can release a more expensive version that includes a new engine overhaul.  The other years can just be engine updates, new rosters, and gameplay tweaks.  Of course they can't charge as much for the DLC in that model, so it will never happen.

FIFA is on PC, and you don't see people modding FIFA 11 to play like FIFA 12, they buy the new game. This is because FIFA consistently improves their games in significant ways, which you can't just imitate with a mod. NCAA just fixes a few bugs each year, which can be imitated easily with mods. So the problem isn't really that PC people just mod a game for the next year (though they would), it's that NCAA doesn't feel the need to make any real improvements year to year. Which of course is why it will never be on PC.

The first time I'll be buying the game on the release date since NCAA '09. Not a fan of any other sports games except for FIFA and NHL.

I haven't bought NCAA since 11, so I figured I'd pick it up this year (especially for $45 on Amazon).  I'll be picking up FIFA as well; that's the only sports game I get every single year.

I would love to pick up an older golf game or hockey game, but it annoys me to no end  how EA shuts down their servers so quickly, not to mention the stupid online pass thing if you buy the game used.

NCAA Football is always the sports game I get. NCAA 12, however, was a bug-ridden piece of shit and was the first game in the series I didn't play from release to the next year's title.

That said, the NCAA 13 demo was really fun and the pass coverage finally seems adequate. I'm not positive, but linebackers may actually be human this year. Anywhoo, I'm just stupid enough to pick that game up knowing there's a 50% chance the game won't function correctly for a month.

I really wish NCAA FB would return to the PC.  I still have Madden 08 on my laptop, perfect game for travel.  When I get a bit more free time I want to download Football Mogul and try out the sim aspects of it.

I'll buy NCAA Football 2013.  I'll then realize it's absolutely no different than prior versions except for updated schedules and one new fan in the stands.  I'll play 2 seasons in dynasty mode anyways, going to a bcs game the first year and then undefeated the 2nd year.  I'll get a big head about how well I've done and I'll try to play online.  I will get utterly and embarrassingly crushed each and every time I play, even by that one guy who's record online is 1-30.  I'll get pissed off, and trade in the game at GameStop and vow never to buy an NCAA Football game again.

Next year, I'll repeat this all over again, continuing this miserable cycle in one variation or another in the same way that I've been doing for too many years

Probably wont get any others though. Although I am looking for both Halo Anniversary (wont pay more than $20) and I'll get Halo 4 when it comes out.

Preordered NCAA 13 for Xbox. I figured I would end up buying it when it comes out so I might as well get it for $15 off on Amazon.

Anybody have any old sports games they still play either because they are either better than the new ones that come out or maybe you have a dynasty that's in it's 3rd or 4th year and you put so much time and effort into signing free agents/playing the games? I still play MLB 2K8 to this day. I'm currently in my 3rd season (All 162 games) and have made some key signings over the last 2 offseasons. Here's my lineup/rotation:

Lineup:

1. CF - Curtis Granderson

2. LF - Matt Holliday

3. 3B - Miguel Cabera

4. 1B - Justin Morneau

5. SS - Carlos Guillen

6. RF - Maglio Ordonez

7. DH - Jaque Jones

8. 2B - Placido Polanco

9. C - Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez

Rotation:

1. Justin Verlander

2. Jeremy Bonderman

3. Dontrelle Willis

4. Ben Sheets

5. Nate Robertson

Now I know a lot of you are looking at this laughing but it's still a fun game, my team is good, plus I've put too much time and effort into it to just stop playing or to get rid of the game. Classic.

Best baseball game I've ever played: MVP Baseball 2005.

To this day I still play it with my friends when we want to play some baseball. I don't even know what it is, but that game was perfect.

My proudest video game moment: throwing a perfect game with Chris Carpenter in my dynasty. So much harder than it looks

Fifa for sure.

Probably not NCAA 13 since I have 12 and it's not much of an upgrade.

NHL maybe, I have 11 and LOVED it but didn't bother with 12 just because I had school and lack of cash.

Madden haha no, I haven't bought one of those since my Gamecube years. I feel like they got waaaay too unrealistic in their attempt at being more realistic.

Haven't gotten NBA in a while though. How's next years looking?

Might get MLB for cheap midseason, those are fun if I've got a few hours to kill.

FIFA honestly gets better each year.  I can't say that same for NCAA and Madden.

I just got NHL 12 this week and will most likely get NHL 13.

Can anyone give me tips for NHL 12?  It is just way different than what I'm used to with FIFA.

Hold the left trigger down and spin the left stick counterclockwise and you should be able to do a spin-o-rama. Click the right stick if you want to duck down and throw the hip, but you probably already knew that. I guess what kind of tips are you looking for.

I actually liked the passing better in 12 moreso than 11 you just have to get used to it. You basically aim your passes like a shot with the left stick. So basically instead of where the AI system wants to pass you can bank off the boards, lead a guy behind a defenseman, or you can do quick one touch passes basically once you get good enough at it. The key to scoring more on 12 also is basically for me to just crash the net. The more traffic you put or things you get in front of the goalie the more your chances to score will go up. They have done a nice job in making it actually like real life hockey. If you you have a guy screening the goalie you will actuallysee him trying to peek over the guy and find the puck. Also if you can get alot of cycling going on in the zone it usually sets me up for a lot of goals also. I don't know how much about hockey you know, but if you can run a basic cycle or find ways to get open you can really get some good chances.

Turn game speed way up, pass speed way up, goalie cover puck frequency to minimum, and you will be good to go.

As far as play goes, its all about the right stick controlling your stick.  You can do some pretty fancy stuff out there.  To take a better shot, you need to sort of roll the right stick in a sort of circular motion so you bring the puck back and shoot much harder.

Just Madden 13 for me. Didn't get it last year (spent the summer and fall focused on an ncaa12 online dynasty), and people told me I really missed out on Madden 12. I enjoyed Madden 11, but only had one complaint...can we please get more than 50 plays in a playbook, or at least regain the create-a-play feature?

The only game I will buy would be Fifa 13 if the game is an upgrade from the great fifa 12 game from last year.  The football games like Madden and NCAA are ok I guess.  The problem I have with the football, basketball and baseball games are that I don't have an hour to play just one game.  When I play Fifa, I can play four games in the time it takes to play one game of Madden and NCAA.  I wasted money last year on both of those football games, and won't be doing it again, the game play gets too repetetive, and after a couple of seasons, I get bored.  NBA 2k series is fun, but the time factor is the biggest deterant for me.

Looking forward to Madden, it'll be my first copy of it on Xbox. I really enjoyed FIFA last year and it should be even better this year.

The EA sports games are exactly why monopolies are bad.  They don't have to make improvements to keep up with the Jones', because there are no Jones'.  CFB and NFL games would be lightyears better than they are now if EA had a little competition and was forced to improve its product every year.  I want real physics and better AI, is that too much to ask?

Well if it makes you feel better Madden is supposed to be trying this new physics engine which is supposed to make players actually look like they fall realistically instead of the same 5 or 6 falls. Typically if it winds up being a hit in Madden in the first year, NCAA usually implements it into their next game as well, so that should be something to look forward to at least.
