OT: What should I be listening to?
Okay, it's still the offseason, and we haven't had one of these in a long time. I'm in a bit of a rut when it comes to new music because my subscriptions to Magnet and Paste ran out.
My most recent purchases are:
Gorillaz - "Plastic Beach"
Nada Surf - "If I Had a Hi-Fi"
Neutral Milk Hotel - "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"
She and Him - "Volume 2"
Frontier Ruckus - "The Orion Songbook"
What's in your CD player or iPod, and what should I be listening to?
i havent hear them, ill deff give them a listen. you ever listen to sepultura or fear factory? I love me some double bass
their drummer wears huge boots and doesnt even move his legs its awesome. the begginning of powershifter is crazy
Jambase is the best way to find music imo.. whatever scene you're into.
Ive been loving Mash's revenge with Dilla and the excellent Guilty Simpson. Detroit's own Paradime is also set to drop his next album this summer, its heat.
Im a dilla fan as well.. Do you listen to flying lotus at all?
Ummm...Billy Ocean of course.
If Billy doesnt do it for ya I suggest Deftones Diamond Eyes..killer
white pony is better
riding white pony is even better!
Off the top of my head: Sufjan Stevens, James Blake, Explosions in the Sky, Mumford and Sons, Bon Iver, Caribou, Chiddy Bang, Wale, Titus Andronicus, Fleet Foxes, Noah and the Whale, The National, Sleigh Bells, Ratatat, The Tallest Man on Earth, We Were Promised Jetpacks, and Yeasayer
That should keep you occupied.
I love explosions in the sky. It reminds me of dewey mornings in late summer before double session football practices. Nostaligia...
Mumford and Sons and Bon Iver, yes! I hear Bon Iver is coming out with some new stuff. Can't wait for that.
Oh, and toMagnus - I also like some Matt Waddle (Obadiah Parker) has a pretty sweet Live Album where they cover "Hey Ya" by Outkast. It was on the Finale of Scrubs I think like 4 years ago or something. The rest of the album is pretty good. You really can't go wrong with a little Pearl Jam to cleanse the eardrums every now and then either.
FYI if you know where to look and aren't morally opposed to downloading music illegally Bon Iver's new album is already on the internets.
Just downloading it now as a matter of fact...
No moral opposition here. I have been looking for a new site to download some music from. If you don't mind sharing, I'd love to hear where your grabbing the new Bon Iver from now. If you'd rather do it off the board, I'll give you my email.
I found my copy from btjunkie.org. Run a search for Bon Iver and it should be on the top. It just leaked today and there weren't any ratings on it but I dowloaded fairly quickly and ran my anti-virus on it and it came out clean.
Thank you.
If you're worried about privacy, programs like "peerguardian" work well in my experience
Your musical tastes sound right up my alley. Sufjan Stevens, Explosions in the Sky, Fleet Foxes, the National, and Sleigh Bells are already in my repertoire. I'm not a fan of Bon Iver (his voice drives me a little crazy), but I'll check out some of the others.
What if I told you that you could listen to a Bon Iver song sung by a girl with a beautiful voice, would that be something you might be interested in?
Wow. Thanks for that. Her voice is incredible.
That's MUCH better than Justin What's-his-name's voice.
yeah, that was awesome
yeasayer is awesome, ambling alp is a really catchy song
Just started getting into mumford and sons. Really good stuff.
Only album I've ever bought where I didn't hate 3/4 of it.
Most likely you're too young or too cool to appreciate it.
I'm too cool for just about everything.
However, the blue album is one of my top ten favorites of all time.
You think you're too cool for school? Well I've got a newsflash for you, Walter Cronkite...you aren't
I love the blue album
Check out some Black Keys, but go with their older stuff, or some live stuff. Some of their best stuff is live on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKLQr51WsTM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQL6Hhplm5s
Their latest album is a bit over produced, in my opinion.
Can't go wrong with Muse either:

Brothers was probably still overproduced, but it was still solid. This is off a mashup album with Big Boi which I loved called "The Brothers of Chico Dusty"
If you like Crust Punk...
Here's a review of EO's album Here Lies... Really great stuff.

Here's the title track off of Oh My God's album Fool's Want Noise.
mac miller, chris webby enough said
i hope i dont get negged for this but chris webby's la la la song is awesome
Crystal Method sampled a bunch of that in a dj set earlier this year.. It was great.
A few years ago, he was Sonny Moore and singing for these guys...
if you like electrotechno music, I would recommend Deadmau5.
i saw deadmau5 at ultra last year it was a helluva time. I NEED to see the Chemical Brothers sometime in the next few years/ From what I hear about there shows, there is nothing like them.
Start at around 1:45.. This would be too much fun.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBeBH2G26Ck
If you like electropop too then you should check out Calvin Harris. Great mixes with Deadmau5 too.
I've listened to a couple songs by each, and I like them both. Thanks. The Smith Westerns might be my next purchase...
Some favorites in that same genre are 764-HERO, Apples in Stereo, Caviar, Fig Dish, and Owsley
you should listen to OFWGKTA, don't worry about what sara and teegan say, they are awesome. Also listen to some of their members solo albums, like earl sweatshirt - earl and tyler the creators new album.
A new TOOL album will be coming out this year, enough said
check out Animals as Leaders also, their song CAFO is pretty awesome if you like prog metal......don't worry there are no vocals so no screaming or growling if you aren't into that, it is some of the best guitar ever though
If TOOL comes out this year, Denard wins 2 Heismans!! They are due but I would wager 2012!!
it was supposed to be out late last year, it looks like it will be out this fall......you know what that means, a tour. I don't know if you have seen them but i strongly encourage you and any other member reading this to see them when they tour for the new album, they are AMAZING. in fact i needed my maynard fix so bad that i sat by the computer at 10 am when APC tickets at the fox theater went on sale and got 1st row balcony seat, so stoked
I feel ya brother!!! Saw them at the Fox when they released 10000 days!!! Amazing face melting experience. I have seen them several times over the years both in Detroit (DTE, Palace, Milan) and in Portland. I too have APC tix for the Schnitzer auditorium out here to get my Maynard fix. I can not wait to hear TOOL's new stuff, though!! Enjoy the show my man!!
