OT: What should happen to Grayson Allen?
In Duke's game gainst Florida State, Grayson Allen tripped Xavier Rathan-Mayes, and it looked like it was purposeful. This is the second time Allen has tripped a player this season.
When a player for Oregon State tripped a referee he recieved a four-game suspension. When Diamond Stone tackled a player, Maryland gave him a one game suspension.
But the ACC isn't giving Allen a suspension, and it doesn't seem like Duke is going to give him one either. Should he have gotten a suspension, or is it just the ACC not wanting to give him a suspension because he playes at Duke?

Yeah he should be suspended...the kid is dirty

is dirty, they always have been. It is how they are coached.

1 game suspension and some extra running for the whole team. It won't happen

Extra running? What did they do to deserve extra running to get better?

The paddle that said "shit creek" on it from Astronaut Farmer.

Duke gonna Dook. So yea, fuck Duke. Always.
February 27th, 2016 at 10:40 AM ^
But if you look at your examples, he didn't rise to either of those levels. Maybe have him come of the bench? He deserved a T but that has passed. 24 hour sports news makes mountains out of nothing. You can't really exicute him just because Christian Latner was a dick too.
February 27th, 2016 at 10:48 AM ^
Hate Duke. But this is still the right answer.

No, he should get a game suspension, even if it's for an easier game. Sure, each of his transgressions aren't as bad as the ones mentioned, but he's now done the same thing twice, which shows it's a pattern/habit not just a bad decision in the heat of the moment.
Duke or not, this type of thing is pure bush league and he should have some sort of punishment.

He barely tripped a guy he wasn't hurt. This is how basketball used to get played. Now we've come to this powder puff crap

this is an intentional dick move. The physicality of the act does not merit a suspension. The unsportsmanlike douchebagggery of it does.
February 27th, 2016 at 2:12 PM ^
No, it really isn't how basketball used to be played. What the hell gave you the idea that players used to just run around tripping each other?
February 27th, 2016 at 5:45 PM ^
Well his/her name is "TheDirtyD"...
February 27th, 2016 at 10:43 AM ^
He's a great player and it's a shame he has resorted to these kinds of actions on the court. He's another in the long list of dirty, cocky Duke players who everyone hates.
Im a UNC fan and I have nothing but respect for Duke as a program. But they make it so easy for people to hate them. There's no question he should be suspended for at least 1 game. He also leads his team in technical fouls. But I guess UNC and Lville have put the ACC through enough, so there's no room for a Duke black eye.

For some reason, I don't hear the word "thug" being thrown around.
February 27th, 2016 at 10:47 AM ^
But white Duke kids get away with things non-white, non-Duke kids never would. See: Laettner, Christian.
February 27th, 2016 at 11:49 AM ^
If Allen continues on this trajectory, maybe one day ESPN will make a documentary about how everyone thinks he's a huge douchebag.
February 27th, 2016 at 11:06 AM ^
that may be true, but I hear a lot worse being thrown around about him.
Who gives a shit?
February 27th, 2016 at 11:30 AM ^
I have. And I've also heard plenty of equivalent terms as well. Don't try to make this racial.
February 27th, 2016 at 12:35 PM ^
The incident itself is not racial, but there is a racial element to our reactions. We may be willing to call this guy "dirty", but we typically reserve the word "thug" for Blacks. In my opinon, the word "thug" has evolved into a racial slur. We need to change that.
February 27th, 2016 at 1:09 PM ^
You say "we" as if it's a universally held thought. If you reserve the word "thug" for blacks, then maybe that's a you problem. And I'm not saying there aren't plenty of people who do the same. But because some people are racist doesn't make this incident racial.
You can't say, "I'm going to view this non-racial incident differently simply because the racist people do." You can choose to be better than that.
February 27th, 2016 at 1:20 PM ^
impact of these things is any less because it doesn't apply to a minority of people.
February 27th, 2016 at 2:32 PM ^
People do reserve thug for black people and punk for white people. I for one do believe if this were Buddy Hield it would've been made a bigger story.

I think and thought he was a thug and saw it in comments elsewhere. Weak argument that's trying to bring racism into this. SMH

Thug = Black

February 27th, 2016 at 11:36 AM ^
When I think thug I think of physical beating or intimidation.I don't think "thugs" trip people running by like that. The trip seems more juvenile.

You do know that just because you've cleared the 100 point threshold and now CAN create threads doesnt mean you HAVE to create threads. I know it can be confusing but trust me - you can take an hour or two break from thread creation and you won't lose your thread creation rights.

Clearly he didn't know.

I haven't watched a Duke game, don't have a clue who this guy is, and know that I'm stereotyping. He's guilty by name alone. I have yet to meet someone with the name Grayson who's not a prick. (for the record, most of them are 8yr olds) And of COURSE, he plays for Duke.
February 27th, 2016 at 11:34 AM ^
You can't judge a person by their name like that. He didn't pick it.
His parents, however, are undoubtedly huge pieces of shit. This is all their fault for sucking so hard. Admittedly, parents giving their kids stupid fucking names is one of my biggest pet peeves. Each of my boys is one of like 2-3 in their classes with normal names. Every other kid's first name is a last name or a combination of two names or a semi-normal name spelled super fucking weird. It bothers me way more than it should.

The last Grayson I knew was a great guy. He died in 1989. Perhaps Mable will make a comeback as well.

punk white kid pulling that stuff on the court where he knows he's safe. He'd never do that outside the arena. He should probably get 1-2 games off for that one
February 27th, 2016 at 11:00 AM ^
A 1 game suspension would be appropriate at this point.
