OT: What Concerts Will You Be Attending This Summer?

Submitted by Darker Blue on

So I have a busy summer planned attending concerts. I'm going to see Neutral Milk Hotel in Royal Oak on June 18th, and returning to the greater Detroit area on June 19 to see Andrew Jackson Jihad play. Following that up with The Hold Steady in Lansing on July 8th. Also Gordon Lightfoot is coming to Northern Michigan sometime in June, and I may check that out also. What shows do you plan on seeing this summer?

Two of my favorites, Bobby Bare Jr (opening for Guided By Voices) and Old 97s, are coming through my area in June. Hoping to catch one of the Replacements festival shows, too.

I have never heard of a single one of those artists.

All music festivals for me this summer though. EDC Vegas, Mysteryland, Lollapalooza, and probably ACL

Erghhh... I really want to see Neutral Milk Hotel someday... I myself will be seeing Portugal the Man on May 17.

Knoxville doesn't get an abundance of solid bands that aren't country, so I'm ecstatic about seeing them.

Um....taking the wife this Friday to Cher and Cindy Lauper at the Q here in Cleveland.

And yes you may take my man card - I clearly wont be needing that any longer.

I was going to tell you that you and the wife should come up to Interlochen for Gordon Lightfoot but a quick google search just informed me that its on the same day as Neutral Milk Hotel and I like Gordon Lightfoot, but no way I'd miss hearing Jeff Magnum belt out Two Headed Boy for "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald."

That would be fun.  Drop me a line if you see something interesting like that.  FWIW we're having a family reunion of sorts up in Alpena over Memorial day weekend.  My brother and I belong to a hunt club up there so we're getting everybody together up north.

Really good thread topic.  Nice to discus something that isnt depressing for a change.  I mean...other than shelling out big bucks to see freaking Cher and Cindy Lauper I mean.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup.

That said, I'm also going to the Linkin Park/30 Seconds To Mars/AFI concert in Boston in August. The day before I'm going to see the Sox in Fenway for the first time.

I'm a big fan of music, and especially live music...so I love summer and I love concerts. World Cup has drained me, but usually I do anything from Jay-Z/JT and Carrie Underwood (last year) to Linkin Park and co. this year.

Just a big fan of live music, a good tailgate and raging with some people I've never met. Or even if it's just chilling on a lawn watching a good show...just a good time for me.

I try to do 3-5 concerts a year depending on if I can make it to any sporting events. I especially like trying new concerts, I'm not huge on seeing the same artist or band 4-5 times, I'd rather see someone I've never seen live before.

for the heads-up on an LP/30STM/AFI tour - hadn't heard that one...and just saw they will be at DTE August 30th.  Might have to add that to my list!

Somehow I pictured you much older Mr. Yost - must be the name.  I get this in my head reading your posts:

Just kidding man!  :)

I do it on purpose...it's the old man in me that I get to let out on MGoBlog. Way back when someone had a "guess the age of the poster" thread and my username came up and everyone guessed between 50 and 70. I thought it was hilarious, so ever since then I just stuck with the old man mantra.

Now get off my lawn with your hippity hop nonsense.

In truth, this thread has actually got me quite excited about concerts and I'm actually debating the Jay-Z/Beyonce concert at Soldier Field because my fiance is from Florida and she's never been to Chicago. She's now a Michigan fan (because, well, obviously) and she saw the commerical for the Big 10k and wanted to run...so we planned to do it in 2015 since we're doing the World Cup this year.

HOWEVER, the concert at Solider Field is on Thursday and the run is that Saturday. If I could somehow pull that off, with World Cup AND our Boston trip to see LP/30STM/AFI...that would be like nonstop action for me and when we're old and married and bored...I would just say "Summer of '14"

Going to sleep on it - but this could get interesting. F the OP...I now want to go to like half these concerts I've seen in this thread. I've been on LiveNation and Ticket Master for an hour just looking to see who's close by.

Im just sad I won't be returning to Belle Isle for Orion. Screw you Metallica.

But man if Belle Isle wasnt an awesome venue for a festival. Hope someone else runs with that idea and at least puts together some shows there.

Would love to get over to Landing for the Hold Steady but I don't see it happening. Right now the only thing on the itinerary is Jason Isbell in June and hopefully the Drive By Truckers if they add a Michigan date.

I know there are some Brand New fans on this board.

This thread reminded me to check Brand New's site for shows (even though it's almost impossible to get tickets even when you know they are going on sale ahead of time). They are playing several shows in the midwest in July with tickets still available on Ticketmaster.

I desperately want to go, but I can't justify spending the money this year, so I thought I'd pass along the info to others who might be interested.

Does Walking with Dinosaurs: The Arena Spectacular count?  Taking my 3 and 5 year old boys to see it at The Palace in August and it looks awesome!!!  Hard to say whose more excited, them or daddy...
