OT What is the best Zelda Game?

Submitted by Florida Blue on
I recently got a Wii and I am about to download a Zelda game because I remember them all being friggin great. I honestly can't remember which were the best ones and wanted to get your opinions on that before I make my choice. What do you think? (yes the recent old school video game post sparked this one)

Ocarina of Time. Just unstoppable. But not necessarily the easiest to play on the Wii. A Link to the Past is a good choice if you have the old school controller because it the exact same as the SNES one.

Link to the Past, easily. The original and Ocarina are the next two, in some order. Majora's Mask a lot of people really love, depending what you think of the gimmick. I'm not in this camp, but it's out there. Wind Waker has its fans as well. I thought the travel time involved was obnoxious and that none of the dungeons were particularly memorable. Twilight Princess is exceptional as a game, but is largely purely an homage to Ocarina of Time. It's a very similar game with better controls. (Zelda II) The Adventure of Link hates you and wants you to die.

I'm really tempted to say Wind Waker is my favorite. I think I had the most fun playing that game than any other Zelda game, probably because I couldn't get past the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time, and still haven't finished Twilight Princess.

it is the SNES A Link to the Past. That game was classic on so many levels...i probably played that straight through 10 or 15 times as a kid. Ocarina of Time was also pretty spectacular, but I prefer the old-school overhead style. I will admit, however, that I started getting turned off by games as they got more complicated...I hate having to read a 100 page booklet to understand how to play, or having to grow an extra 9 fingers just to be able to effectively use the control.

1-Link to the Past 2-Ocarina of Time 3-Majora's Mask Ocarina was probably the better game, but I was at the perfect age to really obsess over a Zelda game when Link to the Past came out, so it will always be my favorite.

Ocarina continues to be one of my all-time favorites - I go back to it every couple years, and it never gets old. Also, gamerankings.com ranks it the #1 game of all time, so it's got that going for it too. Of course, how you weigh that bit of evidence probably corresponds with your opinion of recruiting sites.

Ocarina of Time was a good game, but I feel like anyone who says that it is the best Zelda game hasn't played any of the old school ones.

Majora's Mask is a really excellent, fantastic game, and Ocarina of Time beats it raw with a shovel, stomps it bloody, and leaves it in the gutter. OOT is that good. Also, I am weird, but I like Zelda II better than the original Zelda. Have never played Link to the Past.

I remember being a little disappointed when I got it for Christmas from my grandpa. because I had no interest in it before and had never played the old school version (yeah, that deserves a neg). I then spent the next 2 months doing almost nothing but playing Zelda. Incredible game.

I'm gonna go against the grain and say Link's Awakening. To elaborate: Ocarina, Twilight Princess, and Link to the Past are vastly superior games but Link's Awakening was the only portable Zelda for a very long time and it got me through so many car trips and flights that it holds a very special place in my heart.

Although OOT is obviously the best, I really loved Link's Awakening too, despite the lack of a Zelda or Ganondorf. I also thought the graphics and music on WW were really neat, and I remember being ridiculously pissed when one reviewer from Electronic Gaming Monthly gave the game a 9.5/10 (the other two on the panel had 10/10), preventing it from entering their pantheon of games with a platinum medal. That event then generated the most hate mail they had ever seen. Did you play the GameBoy Color version of LA, with the extra color dungeon?
