OT: West Virginia to sell beer at home games

Submitted by RedGreene on

The WVU Board of Governors approved the sell of beer at Mountaineer sporting events by a 10-5 vote.

So what does AD Oliver Luck think?

Luck said he was "pleased" with the approval, which he believes will adress "coarseness" in the stands and "increase civility." The policy change will go into effect as WVU prohibits smoking in public areas of the stadium and ends its practice of allowing re-entry at Mountaineer Field during games.

"I believe we have taken a step forward toward our goal of a safer, friendlier and more civil game day experience," Luck said in a prepared statement ...

what's worse than a toothless mountaineer?????? a drunken toothless mountaineer. Now let's tip our beer back and drink in honor of  uncoarseness and increased civility.

of alcohol at B1G venues here.  Looks like Minnesota used to allow alcohol sales at games, but couldn't continue because they were *too restrictive*:

Garry Bowman, director of athletics communications at the University of Minnesota, said its venues once offered the sale of alcohol, but things changed once the new TCF Bank Stadium opened for the football team.

“The legislature pushed back on us. It was an all or nothing situation,” Bowman said.

He said facilities administration would not budge on its policy of not selling alcohol in the student section, which is 20 percent of the ticket base.
