OT - Welcome back Friday Posbang! (The Army-Navy Edition)

Submitted by mgobaran on

The Point system is back. So let's rekindle our Friday tradition of a posbang. We all deserve this one, after a long work week, and an even longer football season.

For the first time since August 31, 2013, the state of Michigan has no football over the weekend. So what are your plans? Is it Wife Season until bowl games start up? Is it your weekend to get out there and shop for Christmas?

I'll start it off.
My weekend will be filled with beer. I expect a heavy amount of snow shoveling. At least early Saturday. Then I will tune into the annual Army Navy game.

Looks like the line is at Navy -12.5 right now. IMO Army covers that. I haven't watched the two teams at all this season, but it is always a great game. The heart these guys play with is amazing. This was one of the most touching things I have ever witnessed from sports.

My NCAA dynasties always start off at Army, so maybe I am biased, but GO BLACK KNIGHTS! Either way, this game spotlights the men and women who serve our country. And it's never a bad day to let them know we appreciate everything they do. So MGoCommunity members who are members of our Military, thank you.

Couple Notes:
Navy has won 11 straight football games
Army is 3-8 on the season
Navy is 7-4  on the season
Game is on CBS, 3:00pm EST

Who do you got?

Weekend Plans?

I can't emphasize enough, why a great job the navy does supporting the army during wars. Thanks for the mre's, tents and glow lights fellas.

THat is a lot of credit. We caught our rides from the USAF and brought our own provisions and Class IIIIX items.  Lol. I work with numerous USN personnel and they are reminding the Army types about the win streak.  Most Army guys respond with "Sorry, man, we haven't been able to pay attention to the game because we've been fighting a war."

Both of my grandpas were in the Navy, my dad was in the Navy and my uncle was in the Navy.  If I went in the service, I probably would have gone in the Navy too.  Therefore...

Go Navy.

For the first time in years, I'll be back in town. The UM Sailing Team has their 75th anniversary banquet this weekend so I wouldn't miss that and I am sensing a trip to Ashley's in my near future. For anyone interested in what's going on, or even just verifying that M actually has a sailing team, check out http://sailing.studentorgs.umich.edu/

Also, since I have a cousin who's wrapping up his stay at West Point - Go Army! Sorry to miss the game this year. Its an incredible spectacle for anyone who ever has a chance to attend.

All the bitching about not wanting to watch Michigan games anymore during the season that I did seem so stupid now that the season is over and I just want more football. *sigh* Don't know what you've got til it's gone, even if it's dong punching, soul crushing, miserable excuses for football games. Can't wait for the bowl game.... and then the long darkness of the offseason.

Are we doing a MGoBlog bowl pick 'em?

The only posbang I'm looking for today is the seller signing the purchase agreement on a piece of property I'm attempting to purchase.

They've been sitting on it for two weeks.

My father in law went to West Point, so cheering for Army is mandatory in our family. I really hope they pull off the upset and break Navy's streak over them.

Other weekend plans: Dinner with my mom's side of the family tonight at Cheesecake Factory and dinner with my dad's side of the family Sunday at Maggianos, so I'll be well fed this weekend. It's for my birthday, I turn 32 on Monday.

Have a good weekend everybody! Double Posbang Friday woohoo!

I'll confess - I missed the Big Chill my senior year, but a friend growing up actually played in the game (Go Army!).  It was worth every second.  The Michigan-Ohio St. rivalry may be bitter and "tops" in college football, but there is NOTHING like the Army-Navy game.

The pregame festivities were arguably one of the coolest things I've ever seen.  The cadets lining up on the field in formation, about 25-30 parachuters came in, lots of flyovers.  Everyone at the game was also in incredibly good spirits.  If you've never been, and you know someone in the armed forces...go with them to the game sometimes.  It's a bucket list item you won't regret.

I am completely on board with what you are saying. The Game is an awesome rivalry, BCS bowl games are all a spectacle, various pro playoff games are great atmosphere, but the pomp and circumstance surrounding Army-Navy is like nothing else I've ever attended. March On is worth the price of admission, even without the football.

And for those trying to watch at home, CBS Sports will be televising March On starting at noon Eastern on Saturday.
