OT: Weekly Friday "What are you doing?" Posbang Thread

Submitted by profitgoblue on

Its that time again . . . Time for the purculator!

(Does anyone remember this song? Does it not remind you of that old Atari game called Qbert? Anyone with me? No?)

Anyway, time to find out what the MGoCommunity is up to today. Me, I've finally found a buyer for my used Accord and am closing the transaction this afternoon. Its a lot of work - notary, bill of sale, making sure funds are certified and good, etc. But I'm getting $2,000 more than the dealer offered me for trade-in so its worth it! Glad the whole process is finished though. Then its on to buying a new Pilot next week in time for the big annual family beach trip to Wild Dunes, South Carolina . . .

Other than selling/buying cars, I'll be here going through about 30 different loan documents and reporting up the chain about them. Ah, the joys of corporate America. Not to mention the fact that both of my bosses are out of their respective offices today so I get the great pleasure of being the only one servicing (no, not in the way that you think I mean) both the LA and Charlotte offices. That ought to be a rip-roaring great time! F--- me.

What are you all up to? Anything interesting? Did you just come for the posbang? If so, bend over!

P.S.  Posbanged myself and it felt ooooh so good.  Not too hard, not too soft.  Just what I needed.

Then I got the knock on the door, and by the time I got up from bed to get it I heard the banging, then the power cut out for like you say, maybe a minute or two. Everything had to reboot, but it wasn't out for any length of time.  Clocks and stuff had to be reset, but I don't think it was out long enough to even have to reset the thermometer setting (battery memory lasted long enough for that short a time).

About 4 years ago, we actually had a lost time incident in Underground Lines because someone opened a commercial transformer in Ann Arbor and it was home to a thriving culture of wasps. It wasn't the wasps that caused the injury, however - the guy rolled his ankle while running away. Sadly, this stuff is a hazard in the utility industry.

It's all cool in the end, they admitted they had a problem and the meter changeout took abnormally long (long enough from the temp to move from 74 to 95).  I was just annoyed because in the summer I monitor DTE's blackout feed and it lets me know if I need to leave work early and take care of the dogs in a blackout.  It took some yelling, but they eventually admitted maybe they should have contacted me at some point to let me know power was off in case I did have pets or anything.

I actually set up a little process on my computer that home that pings my phone every 15 minutes.  If my phone doesn't get a ping for an hour, it alerts my wife and myself to get home and check on the dogs.

On the other hand, no blackouts yet.  A whole week of 90 degree heats and no blackouts is a record, so whoever overhauled the northeast section of Ann Arbor's grid did a good job.

There's been a huge effort over the last few years to improve communication, even with the planned work, which is my neck of the woods. The people who design and issue work are very good about putting notes on sketches and orders regarding customer contact information, when to show up, even gate combinations when needed, but we have issues with field personnel not reading the notes. This might have been one of those moments, because even in the AMI group, they've been told to make similar sorts of contact, so sorry about that one.

My Father-in-law got in on some deal where they are paying him to be in a focus group about the smart meter thing.  He has been crowing about it for weeks and it was something of a letdown for him to learn that LOTS of people are getting smart meters.  He thought he was getting something that no one else had access too.

No Dad, you're just one of the few being paid to sit in a circle and talk about it.

At least I medaled.

I wouldn't have expected Jamiemac to be up there...I know he had the cool betting line post, but he must be getting some added content elsewhere this week too.

Though looking at the top of the list...I think I need to be paid.

Like I mentioned, I broke it out further with diary entries and front page content but I didn't bring the notes with me to work (although placing them on my desk would make me look super-busy). I kind of lament forgetting them - it would have made my summary even better. Last week as a good week for Jamiemac because of some content getting bumped to the front page. Next week, I plan to provide some insight into how it is broken out by content type as well.

Took the day off.  Had a dentist appointment this morning. Now, working on my presentation as a lobbyist for a high school mock legislature in Lansing next. Avoiding the garage sale that my wife is having.

Oh wait, I just heard that two people got shot two blocks away, so much for the garage sale. Life in Ionia...

Waiting on test results before I can do much work-wise. Planning information for 2 upcoming OEM visits. Trying to figure out if I can get my phone to upgrade to ICS now that they've leaked the build for the Bionic... and counting down till quittin time.

I just got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and I've been really impressed. It's the first Android phone I've owned, so I can't really compare it to previous versions, but I like it a lot. Apparently, they released an update like the day after I bought my phone, and it fixed a lot of problems people were having. I've had no problems at all. My biggest complaint is that you only have 5 home screens and there's no way to view all of them at once. Although I read somewhere that that is something that might be addressed in the next update. But the face unlock feature is really cool, even if it is basically a parlor trick.

That's what I mean, the double-tap doesn't do anything. As far as I know, there's no way to view all your home screens. And I'm not sure what you mean by folders. I have the 5 home screens on which I can place apps/widgets. I can group apps together, but that doesn't necessarily provide inifinite screens. Plus, I try to group apps together that make sense, so not everything is necessarily going to be grouped with something else.

with motorola's interface, but when I hold the home screen I get 4 options for what to add. Widgets, shortcuts, folders, or wallpapers. If you hit folders you can create a new, empty folder and name it what I want and put apps in it. All my music apps I have in 1 folder. Really helped clean up the screen.

But that's on a bionic runing gingerbread...

Yeah, so you can't do that with ICS. I was reading a tech review last week, I don't remember where, that said they'll probably address that with the next update. It's a pretty minor quibble for me, especially since it's not like I was used to being able to do more before, but it would be nice.

In terms of the folders, I think they've just maybe changed that up a bit. It sounds pretty similar, at least. I can drag one app onto another, and it automatically puts them into a group. Then I can name that group whatever I want. So I have all my Google apps together, games together, etc. Maybe it's just a terminology thing.

Preparing for a student orientation here on campus, at USI, and just entered in the UM Hockey, Red Wings and Arsenal schedules into my google calendar. I am hurting badly for Fall.

Working this morning, then buying some DB's POS accord this afternoon. The untrusting SOB wants to make sure that my certified check is legit.

Will look like this year based on Mattison's previous stops and applying those trends to this year's team. Some pretty interesting numbers.

Just poured a large Oaked IPA homebrew and set into these wonderful videos after a brutal Friday at work. Thank you!

EDIT: Gotta go with 2003. The circumstances in 2007 were brutal, but man could Mallett throw. Guts was the same type of QB as far as being able to throw it on the dime. Too bad he had so many injuries.

Breakfast with the CFO this morning.  I'm kind of a big deal.  Actually all of us interns are, cause that's how it was set up.  Although really it was more of a "CFO talk" with breakfast served beforehand which you better finish before he gets there.

You should work for an old legacy company in a regulated industry like I do. There's still a line for breakfast with the executive staff walks into meetings and they generally just fumble with the Blackberry until everyone is seated with their food. Needless to say, the first several minutes of the speech are sometimes taken over by people struggling to open cream cheese packets or fruit cups.

the issue was never a basketball one, but an attitude one. It'll be interesting to see how the Heat come back next year, both their roster and their attitude. It's a good time for the NBA, how many Heat pieces will they lose? Will they handle a full season (older/injured players and after playing this long + olympics)? Will any other up and comers knock them off? How good/bad will the Bulls be before/after Rose gets healthy? That was a rematch we didn't get this year. What will the Thunder do to re-tool, and can anyone out west beat them?

LeBron is the best basketball player on the planet, and he finally played like it. Good for him. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the Olympics and who the NBA's alpha dog really is. Does LeBron have the "killer instinct"? or did he just play some amazing hoops? Between Dwight Howard, Wade, Carmelo, LeBron, Westbrook, Durant, etc. these practices could be pretty epic... but I don't see these guys really getting in each others' faces like players used to. Except Kobe. He's a throwback asshole who doesn't mind being one.

I don't know if I'm a LeBron hater - I think he took the easy way out and had a premature party, but is still really good at basketball - but I think it's a good time to be a basketball fan.

He's got one. He's got a long way to go to get to 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 if he wants to be considered one of the all time greats or greatest of all time.  Should be interesting to see how many he gets and where he ends up in history.

Shparted

When an overweight often uneducated young lady sits on the toilet in preparation for an expected bowel movement, but instead births a spartan.

What varied lives we lead!  Working, sort of, and thinking about lunch.  After lunch I might fall asleep at my desk for a bit then I'll work on a presentation to the Department of Natural Resources and a managment plan for a landowner I work with.

but I'm packed.  Hopefully out of here (Toledo) by five, parked at the Boardman Quiet Area access outside Traverse City by 10, waiting by the stream with pale ale and cigar by 10:30, and in the midst of a raging Hexagania Limbata hatch by 11:00.  About 1,000,000 things can go wrong between now and then, but hope springs eternal.
