OT: Week 17 NFL open thread

Submitted by MGoCooper on

Big games today, a lot is still on the line in a few matchups.

Cowboys vs Giants- Winner wins the NFC East

Lions vs Packers-  Aaron Rodgers is inactive today, giving the Lions a chance to clinch the 5th seed. It would also be the Lions first victory in Green Bay in 19 years.

Bengals vs Ravens- Huge game for both teams. The Bengals are in a win and you're in situation. For the Ravens, they could go from a first round bye, to the 5th seed, having to win three straight road games.

Colts vs Jaguars-A colts victory, kicks them out of the first pick, assuming as expected, that the Rams lose to the 49ers.

Rams vs 49ers- Rams clinch the 1st overall pick, with a loss, and a Colts win.

The 49ers and the Saints are still fighting for the first round bye, but with the 49ers only needing a win to clinch, against the lowly Rams, this point seems moot.

Happy New Years to all of you great guys on Mgoblog, enjoy some great food and football today.

chalk that up as another reason why I prefer college football over the NFL. That is bullshit, they should have they same rules as college where any play can be reviewed.

Sucks to not being watching any bowl games on January 1st, would much rather being watch those than meaningless NFL games for the most part and bullshit officiating.

every other league when you get 3-4 horseshit calls against one team you at least get one makeup call. Refs must have some money riding on this game.

This game is such BS that one of my huge Packers fan classmates said the following on Twitter:

"#Lions getting absolutely robbed by the refs today. #packerfan #truth"

The Lions are seeing the consequences of playing dirty all season; piss off Goodell and the refs are gonna start throwing flags for every little thing. Schwartz should have gotten this team under control earlier, now their reputation is killing them

incorrect has nothing to do with calling penalties. That is just sheer incomptence, compounded by the retarded review rules in the NFL. Your post makes no sense.

The major issue with the refs was 2 fumbles that were called the wrong way, one was obviously worng which forced Scwartz to waste a challenge. The second one was inconclusive on review but looked to go against the lions. Because the challnges were wasted a no doubt about it touchdown was called incomplete later and couldn't be challenged.

Have loved the Lions for 35 years. This game is a collective example of this organization. All I need is Eddie Murray to miss the game winner. Circle complete.....

I swear that's the first time all year they actually called a roughin/unneccessary roughness when someone hit Stafford. He might finally be getting the respect to get the calls.

As i write this he gets hit on a delay of game...Wheres that flag?

Edit: they gave it to him.

Crazy situation in the dolphins jets game.  If jason taylor went out of bounds at the 1 rather than scoring it would not have been reviewed and the play would have stood.  It was before the 2 minute mark and jets were out of timeouts so no challenge possible but because all scoring plays are reviewed it gets overturned.  I just think thats crazy.

Exactly. The idea is to get the play right, but there becomes a game inside the game with all these weird dumbass loopholes for what gets reviewed and what doesn't. And why the hell should coaches only get 2 reviews if they get both of them right? The whole thing is asinine and an embarrassment to what is supposed to be the "top dog" of all the pro leagues. At least in the college system you don't get in these situations where everyone knows what happened but because of the stupid rules, no one can do anything about it. You see a call is wrong, make the shit right. It's not hard.

Calvin JOhnson 3 yards shy of lions single season yards record. Hell of a show by the offense today, especially since screwed out of a touchdown early. Where the hell is the defensive line.
