OT: Watching games on ESPN3

Submitted by karpodiem on

For those of you who watched the games on ESPN3 in the US - do you have to live outside of the broadcast footprint (aka, being outside the midwest/west-coast) to watch the game.

If you lived in Michigan, could you watch the games as  well?

Did they do ABC games, or just ESPN games?

I was unable to watch the games that were for my area so as a result they were blacked out however this was more for the ABC primetime games, not the games being played during the day. They do both games

I have a similar question.  The first game of the year against WMU will be on ABC at 3:30 EST.  I currently reside in Milwaukee, WI and I'm wondering if I will get this game.  Does anyone know if they have coverage maps out yet for this game?

I'm fairly certain that the only games subject to blackout are the ones being broadcast on ABC where you are. I'm in Ann Arbor, and I've routinely watched ESPN and ESPN2 games on ESPN3.

I have usually had good luck finding games on firstrowsports.net for streams when I wasn't able to find the game on espn3. The streams on the site tend to be in good quality.

availability is also dependent on your ISP getting an agreement with ESPN to give you access.  This can be quite nuanced: for instance, Insight supports ESPN3, except in the Columbus area where they use Time-Warner for their broadband access.

You should have no issue watching any ESPN3 game unless it's ABC primetime game at night and it's not already on your TV. If you're trying to watch an ABC night game which is not on your TV, you'll have no problem.
