OT Walking dead
Without spoiling it for everyone that dvr'd it, wow. That was awesome and next week looks great as well. I have been waiting for TWD to get moving and it certainly is now. P.s. I didn't read the books so forgive me for not knowing what was coming.

This next season will either

This next season will either be the best season yet (and maybe one of the best seasons of any TV show ever) or if they deviate from the comics and persist in their "we want to limit the role of the zombies as much as possible because we're broke trope" it could be a repeat of the farm and one of the worst seasons ever, (SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS) except instead of a farm, it will be a prison.

If you have read the books...

If you have read the books... this is kind of sort of the tip of the iceberg. I mean there are many more big time characters that haven't even been introduced. So it seems HUGE (which it is), but in the grand scheme of things it is just a big moment among other big moments if that makes sense. Awesome show.

If that's the case, then damn

If that's the case, then damn I really can't wait for the rest of the series. I'm hooked on what has gone on so far. I really want to read the books, but I enjoy watching the series so much that I don't want to spoil it. Since you've read them, what's your opinion? Should I read them before watching the rest of the series?

I wouldn't read them until

I wouldn't read them until after the show. The show deviates from the book. Like tonight. What went down in the show tonight did go down in the books, but not exactly like that. And I know things that are going to happen in the show at some point which are huge things that have to take place in the show which kind of ruins the excitement, but I have no idea exactly what episode it is going to go down in... I hope that makes sense. The books are great but they are plain old comics. So if you want to get into them you will have to face being a comic nerd. I am and always have been a comic nerd so I don't care.

Well I've never been much of

Well I've never been much of a comic nerd, but I know I wouldn't mind it at all. I guess I'll wait till after the series then, and enjoy the comics as well. If tonight's episode was just the tip of the iceberg, I can't imagine what's to come. How much longer would you imagine the series to be, season-wise, based on what's happened so far?

The books are ongoing if I am

The books are ongoing if I am not mistaken. The show could go on into perpetuity if it is well written and creative (which it seems to be).

The theories about the show are great because they are different from the books. Like the whole "why?" question below is being discussed and it goes back to what the guy at the CDC whispered to Rick in season one. That is a part of the show that is unique. Totally awesome.

But not guarantees it goes like the comics. Look at Dale.

It is rumored that the actor

It is rumored that the actor who played Dale had a falling out with the producers because they fired somebody he was fond of on the show and he asked to be written out... that is why he went when he did.

Yeah, he's a Darabont regular.

Even rumored he decided to stay but they kicked him off anyway.

Shane shouldn't have been a surprise because he's filming another pilot.

It's a surprise Shane even

It's a surprise Shane even lasted this long to be honest. Until about a month ago when I heard who they cast as the Governor I was surprised, because they set up in the 1st season that Merle Dixon could fill that role, with the whole one arm cut off, and crazy person in general. I know his name isn't the same character wise, but it would have been crazy to see them put his character out there so early.

I think there's more to it

Apparently a change in the creative pieces lead to some changes http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/walking-dead-what-happened-fired-221449

My concern is that they've killed off too many major characters too quickly and will work to introduce new ones just as fast.  That being said, it was getting stale for a few weeks and I'm glad it's moving again.

They cast the Governor for

They cast the Governor for next season, it will be interesting to see if Michonne will make an appearence too. Although I find it a little hard to believe that they'll make her into a main character, not sure she would transition well to the show.

I agree. Michonne is a little too fantasy world for a "real life" tv drama.

Re: The Governor. How cool would it have been if they cast Anson Mount from Hell on Wheels?

I think Michonne could work

I think Michonne could work if they changed her up in a way similar to how they changed up Andrea.  Make her a little less badass combat-wise and maybe not have the "escorts" when they first meet her.  Beyond that I think she'd be a good addition.  Especially if we're going to get the governor.

I didn't give Hell on Wheels

I didn't give Hell on Wheels much of a chance, but from what I saw he could pull off the Governor pretty well. This role is well beneath him, but I think Jeffrey Dean Morgan would fit that role perfectly.

I hope they introduce Michonne into they fray, or at the very least, T-Dawg turns into Tyreese. If they can't do that, then bring back Morgan, and have him substitute for Tyreese.

Dale dying was understandable in the sense that it symbolized the death of their humanity, but shit. he plays such an important role in the comics, that I can't help but thinking it's a mistake.

Also, just as an aside, they had better fix Andrea's character, because she is a legitimate badass, who deserves to be playing alongside the big boys.

The past 2 episodes have been

The past 2 episodes have been nuts, and I'm sad the way this episode ended. I couldn't believe it when Dale died, and this episode just added to that shock. Loving it, but I hate that the show goes away again for awhile after next week. I wish the seasons were longer, or I could speed up time or something.

If great minds think alike, I

If great minds think alike, I must admit I am very pensive as to: a.) Did the dreams represent a transformation that is, at this point, inexplicable? And b.) How is that transformation possible?!

[EDIT: Apparently I needed to do some further reading. However, I haven't read the comics and I'm definitely not looking for spoilers. But does this mean that CDC dude told Rick in season one it was airborne? Is the life of a walker an inevitability that weakens the significance of the attacks in the first place? Can ONLY the dead contract the virus and reanimate? Some of these questions seem to have transparent answers, but I just feel like I'm missing something...]

The Announcement, I figure i'll catch the re-run at 11. (Waking up for work is going to KILL me) a friend of mine has been telling me it's really good, and I just started watching a few weeks ago. I've lost interest because of the lack of action, I have a feeling this episode changes that?

I remember reading last year

I remember reading last year that the storyline was going to vastly differ from the comic books, but now I can't find the source.

Either way, this was as good an episode as the series has had yet.

I knew it was coming because of the comics, but i thought they'd keep shane on for one more season of the TV show. I guess they're going to dive into the "others" shit now.

I love the child shooting at a moving target for the first time, just over his father's shoulder... i probably would have been like, "can you move aside pops?'

Yeah, that bugged me too. Also I thought Carl had raised the gun before Shane stood up.

Great episode tonight.  I

Great episode tonight.  I never read the comics but I was still a little confused at the end...'

***SPOILERS ahead just in case anyone hasn't seen tonight's episode yet:***

So apparently the virus is airborn?  Some folks guessed that at the end of season one, Jenner whispered to Rick at the CDC that everyone in the world is infected, so that when you die, whenever that happens, you automatically become a walker even if you're not bitten.  Case in point, Randall and Shane were not bitten but became walkers after dying.  I guess the only difference is, you reanimate as a walker after dying very quickly but if you get bitten, it takes several hours to reanimate.

Notice how Rick didn't leave after killing Shane.  Was he waiting for him to turn into a walker to kill him again?

Just a guess.  I might be way off.  But next week's episode looks good.

*SPOILER ALERT* Your theory

*SPOILER ALERT*

Your theory of an airborn virus is correct. No matter how people die they will re-animate and become walkers.

Ahhhh, O.K.  But as of right

Ahhhh, O.K.  But as of right now, Rick is the only one who knows that.  And that makes me wonder how last week's episode ended after Darryl shot Dale to put him out of his misery.  That must mean Dale became a walker and they had to shoot him again.  The entire group is standing around him when that happened.  You'd think they would have noticed.

Well it looked like Darryl

Well it looked like Darryl shot Dale in the head, before he would have had a chance to reanimate. Dale was still alive and the group was putting him out of his misery, so to speak.

Nope because if you die and

Nope because if you die and your brain is massively damaged (like by being shot in the head or something ) you can't reanimate as the virus takes over the brain this is why to put out a walker you have to aim to the brain, as Dale died by a shot in the head he couldn't reanimate.

(SPOILER, do not keep reading if you don't want to know this yet)

As a matter of fact a walker's bite doesn't infect them with the virus, they just are lethal and kill you, once you're dead, then is when the magic happens, and Jenner at the CDC told them, that it takes from 3 minutes to 8 hours to reanimate.

Without insider knowledge

I thought that Shane was bitten by the walker that was lurking around the guy with the broken neck who attacked Merle and Carl. Maybe that was just a fooler detail.

That walker was Randal. Shane

That walker was Randal. Shane broke his neck, he reanimated, then bumped into Glen and Daryl.

Kill him THREE times? Shit,

Kill him THREE times? Shit, maybe. Either way, you have to slay a walker, which leads to some straight-up gruesome deaths. I'm ok with that.

I don't think he knew at the time that the virus had gone airborne. I think he stuck around because he was emotionally spent and distraught at having killed his longtime friend.

I just watched the first 2 episodes on netflix, looks like a good one. And trust me, I'm not zombie movie/show/game person, matter of fact I just started watching horror movies for entertainment. Zombieland was my first ever zombie movie and, surprisingly, I liked it.

Maybe a better crossover drug would be

Shaun of the Dead.

Though I think Walking Dead follows the Night of the Living Dead classic Zombie motif more.

The show can go anywhere now. Looks like next week's season finale is going to be a zombie slaughter with a few good guys going down. Next season they are going to have to leave the farm. No question there are new characters coming. How does Rick keep it all together? I'm hooked big time.

It's been promised that the secret Jenner told Rick at the CDC will be revealed in the finale. My guess is that they are all carriers of the virus (he blood tested them all).

Actually, he's completely right.

The title of the show refers to the Survivors, not just the zombies.  It's not only their physical state, but their state of mind, and future.

http://www.adweek.com/news/television/amc-greenlights-zombie-strip-115047

"The title of the series actually refers to the survivors, which should tell you who this show is really all about,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president.

Excusing the double-post from

Excusing the double-post from above, I think you're on to something Sentrik. My final thought is that the virus MUST be present in all living hosts, but remains dormant until death when the conditions are right for it's effects to take place.

If the virus is airborn and you can turn into a walker by just dying. Does this mean if Lori has a miscarriage that we're going to see a zombie fetus eating her from the inside out? Sigourney Weaver in aliens style?

Not likely

If it is a blood virus then I don't think it would be passed onto the child until it was born.  AIDS is not easily passed from mother to child during pregnancy so I don't see a reason for the zombie virus to.

What would be interesting is that if the virus is airborne what happens when an infant catches the virus.  Can an infants immune system fight off the virus, will it die, or something in between? Food for thought.

Amazing episode

I have not read the comics, nor do I want to. Not knowing what's coming makes this show even better. Next to Breaking Bad, this is the next best on television (sorry, Justified).

Hypothetically

If the farmers daughter slits her wrists (again) and dies, there will be a zombie IN the house supposing the airborne theory remains true. Some food for thought.

Why does Shane go into zombie mode in like... 5 minutes but the two guys killed in the bar never did? Come to think of it, Rick may have put another in the head of the fat shotgun guy but I don't think he did the one behind the bar.

In Night of the Living Dead ALL the dead came back to life.  So this is indeed a classic story line.  Although zombies bite, that is not how it is spread.
