OT-Vote for Howard for 2012 All-Star Game

2012 NHL All-Star Game voting is underway currently at http://vote.nhl.com/:b=firefox8/#/ballot.  I know All-Star games suck, but it is still cool for the players to be named to the teams.

Anyways, Jimmy Howard is currently in 5th place for goalies, what is a bigger insult is that Howard is not even on the ballot and is required to be a write-in vote.  Howard is currently leading the NHL in wins this season, so fuck you NHL for leaving him off the ballot.  Datsyuk is currently in 9th in forwards (Crosby is in 3rd, and has played like 2 or 3 games this season) and Hank is in 14th place.  Lidstrom is currently in 4th for D-Men.

So calling all Wings fans, you can vote up to 30 times online.  You do have to register (just use an old email address), but you don't have to reselect the players each vote they stay selected if you click "vote again."

When the hell is the all-star

When the hell is the all-star game ever gonna come back to Detroit? I know it's not exactly the most inviting city for other fans and JLA is getting to be pretty dumpy on the inside, but at least bring it here before the Wings move out of JLA.

I really hate that All Star Games

have become popularity contest. I love the Red Wings but it is absolutely retarded that fans can vote 30 times.

I agree

Crosby has played in 2 games this season and yet is in 3rd place in voting. By opening up voting to fans it has turned all star games into popularity contests.

8 games. 12 points. Still,

8 games. 12 points. Still, your point is valid.

I feel like the skills competition is the only thing remotely entetaining to watch. With that being said, Jimmy I believe leads the league in wins and the Wings are rolling thats enough for me instead of seeing him play a period in a game where he is just gonna get hung out to dry because the defense in those games are just atrocious (sp?)

Popularity Contest

I have no issue with the All Star Game being a popularity contest. It is a meaningless game during which nobody attempts to play hard. It's sole purpose is to be entertaining for the fans, especially in the new format where you can see things like the Sedin twins play against each other. So why does it matter if the fans vote to watch undeserving players, since that's who they want to se?

All-Star vs Fantasy Game

I think my problem is the name, it is called the All-Star Game, but yet it doesn't put the best players in the league against each other.    All-Star games used to have a certain nastalgia to them, but in the past 20 years or so the games have lost this and mean little is anything to fans anymore.   I view it more as a Fantasy Game, which the NHL did acknoweldge last year in Carolina.

For example, Alfredsson, Spezza, and Michalek are currently ranked 2nd, 4th, and 6th in All-Star voting.  Here are the stats for the three (G,A,P,+/-): Alfredsson 9, 12, 21, -1.  Spezza 12, 24, 36, -4.  Michalek 19, 6, 25, -5.  All three players play for Ottawa (host of All-Star Game) and all have a minus rating.  On the opposite end of the spectrum Datsyuk stats 10, 23, 33, 8.  Steven Stamkos 20, 17, 37, 12.  Ryan Kesler 8, 16, 24, 8.   These players are ranked 9th, 18th, and 24th.

The stats just don't make any sense to me as 3 of the top 6 forwards have a minus rating, all three from the host city.  If the NHL decided to change the name to the 2012 NHL Fantasy Game, or somethin to that extent.

Another idea is have a fan selected team faceoff against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, in that years determined host city (This year being NHL vs Boston).  I think this was actually done years ago for the All-Star Game.

Jimmy Howard not being on the

Jimmy Howard not being on the ballot is a crock.  Datsyuk should be in the All Star game for being the best two way forward in the game in my opinion and Nicky Lidstrom should be an automatic for being Nicky Lidstrom and one of the easiest first ballot Hall of Fame selections in 20 years.

Rant Over.

Absolutely, Howard not only

leads in wins, but more importantly he is second in the league in goals against average. He has been tremedous. Datsyuk is the best two way forward in the league, like you said. Non-Red Wings really don't get to appreciate how good he is, without watching him on a nightly basis.

this being a UM sports blog

I fully expected to read an argument for why Juwan should receive the nod in this year's NBA All-Star game.  I would assume the argument would have something to do with longevity, or with being a way to acknowledge that the NBA is the steaming pile that it is.

But yeah, I'd vote for Jimmy AND Juwan.
