OT: Vintage Verlander performance
Harbinger of things to come or fool's gold?
Dude. Not cool. He's still pitching. Don't hex his quality start....
My thoughts exactly...
Now's the time to see what the trade market may bring!
Dude is untradeable, even if tonights start was the norm rather than the rare rare exception. The only teams that could take on that contract are the Yankees, Dodgers, and Sox. The Yankees and the Sox are not taking on huge deals like this anymore and the Dodgers are set in their rotation. JV is unfortunately a Tiger for the rest of this contract.
He really did look good last start till the 5th.
I thought this series would say a lot on whether the Tigers would buy or sell at the deadline. After this start can't imagine they'd be unloading. Another starter (Samardzja?) and a reliever and we might have something.
Helps that some of the icier bats look to be dethawing, as well.
If they refused to "sell" Verlander, they'd be idiots. In fact, it's a silly discussion. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, is going to take that contract today, unless Mr. Illitch agrees to continue to pay the vast majority of it. Let's be real.
Hmm...Last time someone started a thread while a Detroit pitcher was dealing...Anibal Sanchez and JV hate you.
Sorry, man. Not too much into the superstitious aspect unless it's a no-hitter. I missed out on the Sanchez thread. Anyhow, if the swinging bunt and the excuse-me single to right are my fault, I will accept responsibility.
Yeah, your post had absolutely no impact on the run that scored or any part of the game for that matter. I'm just happy to see JV have solid outing, and hopefully it is a shadow of good things to come for him and the Tigers. We need a couple pitchers to get hot to get this team back into playoff contention.
Harbinger of things to come
Yes, I'm going to be that guy today... a harbinger *IS* a sign of something to come! You don't need to repeat yourself. Do you also say: ATM machine? IRA account? PIN number?

Guess it doesn't matter how good the start is when the bullpen has an epic meltdown.
does not inspire confidence.
EDIT: Wrote this before the walk-off. Is this the kind of game that can put the dagger in the season? Don't really follow closely enough to know.
Well, at least he would have given us a little dance or a crying fit on the mound while the ball was travelling 400 feet.
unreal

Vintage bullpen.
We took a 5-run lead into the bottom of the 9th. We can't put this one on the offense.
#votedozier (oops, too late for that)
KC, yeah they know how to vote early and often.
Dozier seems like a real team player who doesn't care about individual accolades. And, yes, Sano seems like the real deal.
Actually, with this team, I can.
Pathetic. Not sure I'd really WANT to see these guys in the postseason.
I could see it falling apart.
Great performance by Verlander. Shit right down the drain by Dartmouth Brad and his bullpen.
Soria had nothing from the first pitch. Is someone throwing? Nooooooo. We sit there with our dick in our hand while the bullpen gives up a fucking touchdown in the 9th.

1) Letting Rondon start the 9th
2) Sitting there while Soria burned down the rest of the 9th inning, when it was apparent after the stolen base that he had nothing, as it was the 3rd day in a row that he had pitched.

Sure.
But we just burned down a 6-0 lead in approximately 4 outs. You're damn right we're going to second-guess this.
