OT: Villanueva Drops 30 as the Pistons beat up on the Bobcats

Submitted by HartAttack20 on
Just checked ESPN to get the scoop on the pistons game, and uh... it looks like Villanueva came to play. He just dropped 30 points on Charlotte with two made threes. This guy is good. Real glad we picked him up this season. Also, Ben Gordon knocked down 22 points and Stuckey had 16. The Pistons won 98 to 75 and are now 4-4 on the season. I definitely like this Pistons team that Joe Dumars has put together. Gordon has been amazing shooting the ball, Villanueva has given us a big man that can score some points, Ben Wallace is locking down the post spot on defense, Stuckey has stepped up along with Bynum, and we don't even have Hamilton or Prince playing. I hear that Prince is out for a while with a possible surgery, but I haven't really heard anything about Hamilton. The recap on ESPN doesn't really get into the injuries. I think this Pistons team is pretty dang good with Hamilton and Prince playing. Good bench players along with solid starters. I just think this team needs a little time to gel and then they could be a tough playoff team. http://espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=291111008

no. they are a borderline lottery team without prince/rip for any amount of time. Gordon has been a surprise, still not sold on Charlie V. Ben will be able to shut down approximately 0 quality centers in the East. they should hope to NOT make the playoffs because they will just get spanked. to steal a line from a caller on 971 the other day: they are an "NBA purgatory" team. They're good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough to go anywhere in them. They won't get a good draft pick and they won't see any glory.

I would have agreed with you. They've had some ups and downs already, but there are a couple reasons I'm cautiously optimistic now: 1. They have shown an ability to play stingy D. Not sure if this is the Big Ben influence or what, but we've held some opponents to ridiculously low scores. 2. The second team guard lineup may be better than the first. Bynum-Gordon looks like it may outshine Stuckey-Hamilton. I didn't really like Bynum last year because I thought he played way too selfishly and shot far too much for a point guard, but I think he's really coming around to his role. 3. While we may be relatively small and weak in the frontcourt, many of our midsize-to-tall players (V, Tay, Daye, Jerebko -- Big Ben obviously excluded) can shoot the three. That can cause some serious matchup problems.
