OT - Victor Martinez could return this season

Submitted by HALOL on

Well it looks like V-Mart could return late this season, he didn't have to get the reconstructive surgey to repair his ACL because it has apparently healed enough. Now its just a waiting game, he will get an MRI in July and if it shows that it has healed enough he could return sometime in August. This would just make the Tigers already potent lineup even more awesome. Victor hit .330 with 12 hrs, and 103 RBIs last year as the primary DH.

Tigers play the Rays today trying to win the series after yesterdays 9th inning collapse, Drew Smyly makes his major league debut. Its also Brennan Boesch's birthday today so maybe he will get out of his hitting funk to start the season, my fantasy team sure hopes so.

GO TIGERS!

Im not a Tigers fan, or really a fan of any particular team. But would you guys want him to come back? ACLs are not anything to mess with. Plus, being a catcher doesnt help. He could DH some, but I think thats risky. I know he wouldnt come back unless he's 100% healthy, but if I was a Tigers fan, Id be nervous if he came back this year. Too much risk to reinjure it, imo.

like you said he won't come back unless his doctors and the organization think hes 100% and if he did all he would do is DH, his knees won't allow him to catch anymore. Its a long shot but he would be huge in the playoffs hitting with Cabby and Prince.

I was going to make a joke about a Norman Dale, "my team's on the field" situation, but your post got me thinking about what the MLB rules say about this.  A team that can't or refuses to put 9 guys on the field FORFEITS immediately.

More useless info I can use to crowd kids' birthdays, etc., out of my brain....

What?  You mean MLB doesn't do use Pee-Wee baseball rules?  I remember a few times as a kid where the center fielder had to cover right field too, as well as a couple occassions where someone from the other team had to switch teams for the game...

I'd flip Young and Boesch, only because Young is such a free swinger. He benefitted greatly from batting in front of Miggy last year. Batting in front of Miggy, Prince and VMart would mean that he's going to get a lot of hitter's pitches.
