Why Mark Richt? Still hilarious though
It was pretty obvious yesterday that his hot seat turned out to be an electric chair.
I would be very surprised if he got any serious head coaching offers.
I think a non-BCS school would take a shot at him just for the increased exposure and increased recruiting. I could see him ending up at a school like a Tulsa or Memphis or something
He'll probably sit out 2014, but be back somewhere for the 2015 season. Dude is only 38 or so. Still plenty of time to learn from his mistakes and become a better coach. Could see him winding up somewhere like Illinois or some other low risk, low pressure place.
Probably believes he's the next saban so why not follow his path?
I bet Silas Redd is second guessing himself right now.
Very good point!
You were watching, weren't you? ESPN wins. Controversy creates viewers, in general.
but I stopped watching the World Wide Leader a few years ago. I can't stand anyone on that network with the exception of live sporting events and PTI (It's a guilty pleasure, I know... I enjoy the banter, Kornheiser cracks me up).
Since ABC bought ESPN, it has really gone to hell.
Pat Narduzzi the SC. I'm sending an email to Pat Harden right now.
Lets get this trending. Narduzzi to USC
@Gordon_Berenson 9:28 AM
Breaking News: Pat Narduzzi totally going to USC. Most definitely is. Tell all your friends
which means he is staying at msu...it is our lot in life
I'd like to think we have more pride than to be hoping and praying an MSU assistant coach leaves for another school. Yeah, he's a good DC but so what - Mattison is very good, too.
I would not mind if he found another job outside of East Lansing so MSU can resume being bad at football
I have hated him since he ruined my Raiders
I think Laney had some help there. But ya he's not good.
Al Davis ruined the Raiders, Kiffin actually had a half decent drafting plan his first year that Davis killed. Not a Kiffin fan by any means but blaming him for Al Davis completely losing his shit and no-one being able to get him out is a pretty far bridge.
Al Davis actually ruined the Raiders by being bat shit insane. But I still don't think Kiffin would've been much of a success there anyway.
Everyone thought it was just Al being Crazy Al. Who would have thought he would have been vindicated??!!
Here is the brief official announcement from USC - LINK
"Haden informed Kiffin of his termination upon the team charter's arrival back in Los Angeles early Sunday morning following USC's 62-41 loss at Arizona State."
There will be a press conference this afternoon, it says, conducted by Pat Haden. I think there was a thread where a lot of us though that this would happen perhaps a third or a quarter of the way into the season. I am proud to say that MGoBlog more or less called it.
I believe that makes Kiffin 28-15 for his career at USC, which is pretty subpar as USC head coaching performances go...
If I were USC I would go after Pat Fitzgerald
would consider leaving what he is building at his alma mater for another school. Perhaps the Bears job if they drop Lovie, but that's about it.
Marc Trestman doesnt think Fitzgerald would leave even if the Bears do sack Lovie. He says they are probably going in a different direction.
But what does he know.
Time to hop back into my time machine.
Not a big NFL fan (obviously)
already fired Lovie. Why do people keep thinking Fitzgerald is EVER going to leave NW? Not happening.
Wow a little behind the times there?
He's still coaching the Bears, right?
Maybe the Lions will hire away Hoke to be their GM after they fire Matt Millen.
/source of Hoke-to-NFL rumors
Yes, Who Is Pat Fitzgerald is correct for $200.
For $400, the correct question is "Who is Kirby Smart?"
For $600, the correct question is "Who is Gary Patterson?"
For $800, the correct question is "Who is Chris Peterson?"
For $1,000, the correct question is "Who is an established coach who has a great situation that has zero incentive to leave the excellent situation they are in besides the perceived increased prestige of USC over their current school?"
I thought John Gruden was the $1000 question...
Yes, even better...good call.
I agree on the others, but he should at least triple his salary..
but he is really building something special in Happy Valley. With the easing of the sanctions, their future just got a lot brighter. Hard to say right now, but I'd bet he stays at Penn State for a few more years.
When they hired him in the first place, the move was so bizarre and unseemly, the only good rationalization I could come up with was that they hired him to be the fall guy for Pete Carroll, riding out the sanctions with no real expectation for success, and fire him after the sancrions expire, having already found a solid replacement. Maybe most of this has transpired --time will tell-- but firing him at this time, in this manner, indicates a base, reactive decision-making process in which they had no idea WTF they were doing from start to finish.
I think they hired him because they knew he'd say yes and there wasn't exactly a huge line at the time.
But I have a hard time believing he was the best they could get, or that they actually thought he would be good
