OT: USC Decommittapalooza 2013... Kylie Fitts the lastest... brings total to five

Submitted by TTUwolverine on

2013 DE Kylie Fitts has become the latest USC decommittment, which brings the total to five for the Trojans this recruiting cycle.  The other four: Eddie Vanderdoes, Max Redfield, Eldridge Massington, and Sebastion LaRue.  He also cites an incident that caused him to "question his trust" in the coaches, but does not get into the nitty gritty.  This is a little bizarre, considering that he was supposed to enroll early.  Also weird, that he is still holding them high on his list.  Link, per ESPN.

This is starting to get weird, especially since most of these decommittments have occured very recently.  A result of USC's poor season, or are they all related to the ominous sounding incident mentioned above?  FEED THE SPECULATION MONSTER.

Also, to make this more relevant to us, Fitts does not appear to hold an M offer despite having one from just about everyone else.  Vanderdoes had some interest for a while but doesn't seem to be considering M this time around, and Redfield/Massington have recommitted elsewhere.  LaRue seems to be the only possibility of the five, unless someone out there has heard buzz about Fitts and M.

Speculation is that after LM3 pledged to USC , they told Fitts that he could no longer enroll early due to lack of scholarships for that semester.

I am losing faith on Larue considering he is visiting TAMU 1/18 and ND 1/25. That would only leave open 2 more weekends (1/11 and 2/1) before signing day.

True, but there are always a few recruits who draw out their recruitment past signing day.  If LaRue wants to take all five visits, he could still come after February 1 (not that I expect it).  Also, he could ditch A&M if somebody gets in his ear about the lack of room for wide receivers.

Man Kiffin does some sleazy, cheap, underhanded things that even his players and commits take exception to. Bailing on Tennessee, picking fights with other coaches, trying to keep commits out of school at Tennessee to switch to USC, swapping jerseys during a game, the injection scandal that's breaking, and now this. I'm sure his unprecedented recruiting success year after year is all perfectly legit and beyond reproach, though. He's just selling kids "playing time."

re-thinking his commitment? Even if he is the beneficiary this time, the McQuays should re-question their son's destination. Making deals with Kiffin isn't worth the paper it's written on (paper burns in hell).

Regardless of football LM3 is going to USC for their music program. There are so many stars (music and actors) in LA who support the program, its the best choice. Not to mention the kid is great at producing and I am sure he will be rubbing elbows with Dre & Snoop. Did anyone catch a clip of his music from the Army All-American game? Kid's good.

I'm not really sure how many past or present recruits were lured to USC because of music. I really dont keep up with who they sign or who commits.  I just kept a close eye on LM3 because Michigan was in his top 3 and he was 5*. Besides I don't think theyre was any speculation that Dre and Snoop actually said they would help him. I just made a reference since the music scene is so large in LA. I just noticed Snoop at a few games and from what I've heard Dre and Snoop may know each other. I'm sure they like USC football.

Whether Kiffin hooks him up with Dre & Snoop or not, you still can't criticize his decision to play in LA if he wants to get into the music business.  For one thing, the music business is very much about connections and who-you-know types of things.  Second, so much of the revenue to be made in music these days involves licensing tracks for use in film, so being in LA where he can develop connections in the film industry as well is potentially helpful.  It's too bad we didn't get him, but this really could be the smart decision for his post-football career.

Could be USC is doing some oversigning before the actual signing part, taking committments and then giving them the cold shoulder when a better option comes along. (I don't know their recruiting board well enough to know if this is really the case or not)

I read a story somewhere that said USC was appealing their sanctions (scholarship reductions) and the coaches were continuing to recruit as if they would not lose scholarships. Perhaps some of the excess recruits are being proactive and decommitting before the window fully shuts and they get left with no options?

Maybe the recruits are finally realizing that Lane Kiffin isn't that amazing coach that everyone made him out to be. He hasn't accomplished anything in college football and has been very under achieving.

is now coming home to roost.  They have been living on their past reputation and that is now running out.  Recruits are starting to ask "WTF have I committed to this school for?"  Can't blame 'em.

Anyone hear the reason he deommitted is he was supposed to get early entry, but they gave it to McQuay instead, and that he couldnt enroll until the summer?

If the speculation is true, then it was a scummy move on Kiffin's part, who has a history of scummy moves.  However, I think McQuay has very legitimate reasons for going to USC.  If he has a sincere interest in his music career, which it undoubtedly sounds like, then LA is a better destination than Ann Arbor for him.  Best of luck to him.

I have no clue what recruits see in Kiffin, but he obviously knows what to say to the recruits.  I don't dwell on that kind of stuff though.  Kiffin is not a good person by any means, but there are much worse scumbags in college football like Brian Kelly.  Also, frankly, if one is looking for completely wholesome entertainment, then that person should look outside of college athletics.

I only clicked on this thread because I was hoping he is another recruit that we can maybe jump in on.

Before:

Hoke: "We like what we've seen out of you, Jeremy Clark, but we are also recruiting some other safety prospects and if one of them commit to us then we won't have a spot for you in this class.  But we can offer you a gray-shirt, so you could join us next season on scholarship if it doesn't work out to get you in the 2012 class."

Kiffin: "We like what we've seen out of you, Kylie Fitts.  We want you to be a Trojan.  We are offering you a full scholarship and the sooner you commit, the sooner you lock up your spot in the class."

After:

Hoke: "Well, I have some good news for you, Jeremy Clark.  We've had some changes in the program and in the class, and we can now upgrade your offer to a full scholarship right away."

Kiffin: "Well, I have some bad news for you, Kylie Fitts  We've had some changes in the program and in the class, and that scholarship we offered you is no longer available.  Sorry.  But I hope you'll keep us in mind in case things change back again on us."

I don't mean to downplay the juicier rumors, but I would think a defensive player has to be getting ancy about not knowing who the DC is going to be this late in the game.   I don't know what role Monte Kiffin played in this player's recruitment, but his exit and the lack of a replacement at this point has to be worrisome for these recruits.
