about playing the back nine since his last rendezvous with Rachel Uchitel.
Watching Tiger yesterday was like watching Tiger back in 06-08
Pulling for him or Johnson
I think D. Johnson pulls it off. I don't think we can say Tiger is definitely back after just one good round. Still, I think he'll play well and finish in the top 5. I'm hoping for a close finish, but I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson wins by a few strokes.
I'm guessing the last hour has changed your mind.
Yes it has.
Whether you are rooting for Tiger or for "anyone but Tiger," the day has the potential for a lot of drama. Having someone without a lot of experience leading majors in front is the biggest "wild card" of the day. Even if he is ahead by three strokes going into 18, the name "Jean Van De Velde will be brought up by the announcers, as in "Will Dustin Johnson do a Van De Velde or will he hold on to the lead to win his first major?"
Tiger is also a wild card here. He could shoot 65 or 75. Really, though, any of the top six have a legitimate chance of winning today, and most of them would be great stories: Johnson breaking through as a star, McDowell being the first player from Northern Ireland to win, Tiger proving that he is all the way "back," Phil getting his first US Open after six second place finishes, or the aging Ernie Els coming back from the nearly irrelevant. Even Havret would be a good story, having to play through a playoff in a European qualifiying tournament.
This day pretty much has it all for the golf fan. Pebble Beach is a historic and beautiful course, and the last two holes are a perfect backdrop for the drama that could happen. Also, the tournament will finish in prime time, allowing more viewers to watch. This could be golfing America's grandest stage for a long, long time.
And I don't see myself spending much time on the computer until it is over.
No 1 is 380 with a tailwind and the ball seems to be running a bit. Johnson can hit it a legit 340. This begs the question: Will Johnson try to drive the first hole?
I hope he does, kid is deep
with the swing and a miss.
personally liking els right about now
Johnson is starting to fall apart. Lot of pressure for the young guy.
Yep. Would be lucky to be at -2 after the third whole.
Anybody see the female golfer with a 6 handicap try to break 100 at Pebble Beach? She shot a 62 on the front nine!
I would love to shoot a 62 on the front nine at pebble myself
So much for Johnson
Does anyone else love watching Mickelson play? I love watching him take so many chances.
Johnson is done son.
Never seen a collapse THIS bad.
While Faldo did shoot very well, Norman blew up.
I was thinking of Sandy Lyle personally.
bringing up Jean Vande Velde
I feel sorry for Johnson. Four to five hours of mentally falling apart on national TV. Ugh--hopefully he can put it back together and break 80.
Pretty hard not to feel bad for a young guy like that. I was definitely pulling for him today but now I'm in the same boat as you; survive and make a decent amount of cash
