OT-US Mens Soccer team adds 11 to the roster

http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-National-Team/2012/05/Klinsmann-Completes-Training-Camp-Roster-with-11-Additional-Players.aspx

Klinsmann adds 11 names to the training camp for upcoming World Cup Qualifying games

ROSTER ADDITIONS BY POSITION
DEFENDERS (4): Geoff Cameron (Houston Dynamo), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Oguchi Onyewu (Sporting Lisbon), Michael Parkhurst (Nordsjaelland)
MIDFIELDERS (1): Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)
FORWARDS (6): Juan Agudelo (Chivas USA), Jozy Altidore (AZ Alkmaar), Terrence Boyd (Borussia Dortmund), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Herculez Gomez (Santos), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

I like Onyewu, Agudelo, and Jozy Altidore... but the rest just leave me lukewarm.

With Donovan, Altidore, Agudelo, and Dempsey on the roster it doesn't make sense to bring along Gomez, Boyd, and Wondolowski while we are desperately thin at non-holding midfield...

I am excited for Joe Corona though, so there's that.

I don't understand what they see in Wondo. Seems to be a good goal poacher in the MLS, but he has proved he just doesn't have it on the international level. I am excited to see what Jurgen does with Landon and Clint together though.

So far as I can tell "Wondo" has no more than 7 caps. That is no way enough appearances to definitively state he has "proven he just doesn't have it" at international level.

He's got 11 in 12 games in the MLS. He deserves a shot.

7 caps is actually quite a few at an international level, especially if you're at the tier where you're fighting to get looks.  He's too small to be a physical striker and doesn't have international speed or on the ball skill to make up for it, and those USMNT games were against some less than top level talent.  Also as you alluded to, he blew that clear chance in the Gold Cup.

I'd rather spend time looking at the youngsters than a guy who'll be 31 by the next World Cup, and the kindest way to put his past performances is that he hasn't shown he CAN hack it in many opportunities, even if he hasn't definitively written himself off the team forever.

I think Klinsmann is looking for someone to fill the role of vet poacher who comes off the bench late when the team's down a goal. Wondo's probably not it, but it is a spot that, if you can find someone, can be really valuable.

I imagine Klinsmann will try to find a pair of centerbacks that work so we can use Bocanegra at LB.

Lichaj and Ream seem too belong to me but other than that this seems fine.

My guess for the choice 11 here seeing as the rumor has dempsey as CAM. 4-3-1-2

Howard

Dolo, Gooch, Boca, (pick a left back maybe Johnson)

Bradley --- Jones --- Torres

Donovan--------- Jozy

Still seems awful weak at LB too me, also a quick note is that jozy will miss the first friendly because he won't be in camp yet.

The biggest snub here is Sacha Kljestan, who has made 72 appearances in the past two seasons for Anderlecht, and was a consistent starter for them this past season when they won the Belgium League, qualifying for the Champions League next season. He is one of the rare Americans who has become an established starter at a decently big European club, and has shown great improvement in recent years while still being relatively young at 26.

Something seems wrong here. The only logic behind it is that perhaps the US style is best suited for more attack from the wings and more defensive-minded central midfielders, so Klinsmann sees no place for him on the pitch.

This is true too. Unfortunately, Kljestan has not played well for the USMNT so this hurts his stock, along with the other reasons mentioned.

Another possible explanation is that Kljestan is seen as a "Bradley guy", being drafted by Bob at Chivas back in 2006 (Bornstein also taken in that same draft by Bob). As we know with new coaches, they often try to separate themselves from prior regimes through personnel choices.
