OT: U.S. Men’s National Team vs. Canada – International Friendly
U.S. MNT OPENS CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION YEAR AGAINST NORTHERN RIVAL CANADA: The U.S. Men’s National Team opens the 2013 campaign with an international friendly on Tuesday, Jan. 29, against Canada at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas. The game kicks off at 9 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN2, WatchESPN and Univision Deportes. Fans can follow the match on ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and via Twitter @ussoccer.

I'm really glad that Omar Gonzalez is getting the start tonight.

I usually root against San Jose Earthquakes and don't care for Wondo, but I'll put tha aside when he is playing for the USMNT.

Sean Johnson, Morrow, Besler, Gonzalez, Beltran, Beckerman, Davis, Zusi, Evans, Eddie Johnson, Wondo

I'm very excited to see Omar Gonzalez get his debut, I'm hoping that Zusi can continue to be a weapon on offense, and I'm interested to see if EddieJohnson can play as well as He did the last time he played for the usmnt.

Make no mistake, though, this is a B- squad. I'm expecting a 1-1 draw.

It is basically a MLS All-Star team.  Did guys like Gatt and Mixx report to the Jan. camp?  I read that they got called up, but not sure if they had club conflicts.

GATT is a sub tonight, Mix is not on the sub list so I assume he didn't make the trip. I'm guessing Zusi will be subbed at the 60 or 70 minute mark for allowing both to go balls out down the sideline all game.

Great news. Fabian Johnson and him could be a dangerous pair of fullbacks.

Really hope Gonzalez can step up and grab that spot. Hard to believe that Boca will have the speed to play at the international level, particularly given the compressed schedule of the WC first round. If Gonzalez shows well here, I think Klinnsman starts working him in during qualifying.

US looks good, generally controlling play. Lots of crosses but haven't found anyone on the end yet.

Wow, this match is unbearable to watch, yet I can't turn away. Damn my obsessions with USMNT. Not one player has stood out and said "I deserve to be on this team".

I think we are playing okay.  We aren't forcing it too much and keeping possesion.  Quicker decison making on the ball would be nice, bit I expected this level of play from this squad.

Also Canada playing 10 back is going to mkaes it an ugly game.

I can see Canada playing the way they are in a qualifyer, but in a friendly?  What's the point?  What do they gain in the way of team development in a 0-0 tie?

This line-up seems like it was tailor-made for a draw.  Lack of speed and creativity in the offensive third against a team that looks like it has no interest in leaving its own side of the field.  I hope some changes come in the second half of this snooze-fest.

Praises Wondolowski early in the game for making a good pass then biffing the shot worse than Sergio Ramos in a ok shoot out... Then he criticized GATT as if beating 2 guys on the dribble is somehow a bad thing.

I know we didn't have our stars, but c'mon! WCQ starts in eight days and the best we can do is a listless 0-0 draw at home against a Canada team that has only been together five days? Does not bode well for our chances of making the World Cup, which I'm putting at no better than 50-50 right now.

As a huge soccer fan and Canadian I have to say I can't even watch my country play soccer. They are beyond terrible and I thought the US would absolutely smoke them, whether they had their stars there or not. It is a friendly though, so I don't think there is much for the USA to worry about in terms of what this means for there chances at qualifying.

As I stated above, this was a B- squad for us. We had no offensive firepower whatsoever. Those who say Brad Davis and Wondo should score since they do so in MLS don't realize how bad the MLS is.

When we have our nuclus back Bradley, Dempsey, Jozy, Fabian Johnson, Timmy Chandler, Brek Shea, Jermaine Jones... We will be fine.

This is the equivilant of being myopic over the spring game.  Canada is notorious for putting 11 behind the ball and we were playing a second string MLS all star team.  None of those guys will see the field in Honduras.
