OT- Urban to be gone a month....
So, while basking in the glow of our new class, I started watching ESPNU to continue the glow. They did an interview with Urban about his class. He says he'll be back to coach next season and will only take about a month off. I'm not sure how important the next month is going to be for recruiting, but this sure seems funny to me. I haven't bought into this whole leave of absence from the program, but was wondering the thought of the board...

I don't think that we should presume that he should quit if he doesn't want to, but I don't like seeing him do the whole "leave of absence" thing and then simply not doing it. It just adds to the high level of sleaze that defines Meyer's existence.

Meyer stayed long enough to assemble one of the best recruiting classes I can remember from anyone in a long time. Now, he gets to take his time off.
I have said this before but I will say it again: if Meyer did the things he has done at Florida at the University of Michigan, most Michigan fans would love him and be wishing him the best right now. People can hate on Meyer all they want, but whenever jobs like ND come up, or the inevitible openings that we will eventually see at MSU and OSU, the name "Urban Meyer" is the most feared scenario for most UM fans.
Besides, we really don't have a reason to hate him. Michigan's signature victory for the last five years came at his expense.

It is, however, somewhat sleazy when you look at his past record in politicking, recruiting practices, and sportsmanship. Basically, I don't have faith that anything Meyer says or does is in good faith and therefore I judge his actions more harshly because I refuse to take him at his word.

I date a Gator fan who comes from a family of Gator fans (yeah, yeah, I know), and I have to disagree a little bit. Yes, people absolutely worship Meyer down here, no question. But when they hear about some of his antics, like the Sharrif Floyd story, some of them have the common sense to find Meyer a little bit tacky / silly / what-have-you. Not all of them do, mind you. But some.

Besides, we really don't have a reason to hate him.'06 -- he was so tacky trying to talk himself into the NC game that he forced Lloyd Carr, not a media kind of guy, to publicly call him out for being a dick. That is what made Cap One a signature victory. Roughing up the Heisman winner and future media love-object was just icing on the cake.

until the comment about MSU. What makes you think Urban Meyer would ever consider MSU? Talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse...no way. OSU I could see. But, I think that will be Pellini's if he wants it.

Meyer would have literally had a heart attack wondering what was happening with his recruiting class if he wasn't working everyday. He'll take a month off and then probably go four or five more years before quitting for five or so years.
Modern coaching is too stressful to stay at a big-time school for 45-50 years anymore--especially when the salaries are so high (there's no reason to work with 30 million in the bank unless you're Art Schlicter).
Bonus conspiracy theory: Urban quits after this year and makes his triumphant return to Notre Dame...I heard it from a reputable 90 year old ESPN podcaster.
