OT: The unfortunate new Cleveland Browns uniformz

Submitted by wolverine1987 on

Cleveland's President was quoted as saying "we want to be the Oregon of the NFL." A picture perfect example of why he is not qualified to be the Browns President. Also, they are Proud" that they are the only NFL team with their city printed on the uniform front. Huh? You know who writes their city or college name prominently on the front of their uniform? Teams with no history, no equity, and no brand. This tells you all you need to know about the disfunction in Cleveland IMO. Sorry, don't know how to embed pictures.

But as a life long Browns fan I am at a point where I hate everything about this team and organization. Is there any redeeming value in being a Browns Fan?

There aren't many redeeming values in being a Browns fan. I suppose the only thing is not being a Bills fan or a Buckeyes fan. (And iirc, the Chargers, Texans, Cardinals, and Falcons also have a history of great futility. At least the Browns have the 8 championships, albeit all but one being before my lifetime.)

The Browns site has a photo gallery as well - LINK

If these photos are any indication, I don't know that I like the idea of having "Browns" down the leg. There's something about that and the fact that it is running down the leg that seems strange to the part of me that secretly enjoys middle school humor. That being said, that's probably my only major gripe with these.

Ya I can't really rip on these at all. Clean look with traditional team colors. Certainly nothing close to Oregon in that regard. Even the Browns down the leg looks fine, just invokes some potty humor I guess.

As someone who's not familiar with the old Browns uniforms, what's the difference? I noticed the Cleveland in the front and the Browns on the pants, but besides that.. are the colors/designs noticably changed?

Is a freaking moron. He must have no knowledge of the Browns. They are a fan base that can't be touched. They fill the stadium every Sunday even if the are godawful. The have the worlds largest fan organizations in the Browns Backers.

One thing the organization has is history.

There is so much systemically wrong with the Browns that has nothing to do with uniformz, yet this decision was brought to you by those same minds, so by the law of averages this is yet another terrible idea.

Browns fan. I dislike these new uniforms.

OP, what the hell are you talking about..."teams with no history, no equity and no brand". That is the most ridiculous assessment of the Browns.

While Browns management have historically been legendarily inept (see Modell, Art; Policy, Carmen; Clark, Dwight; Holmgren, Paul and on and on) they retain the equity of the NFL's most loyal fanbase. These are the same fans who supported the return of the team to Cleveland (our team/our colors) whose history beyond the 64 NFL Championship and the greatest of all time Jim Brown is one only of suffering: the Drive, the Fumble and Red Right 88 to start.

The Browns could just model their modern stuff on the '64 championship gear and I'd be more than happy with that. They don't need to be Oregon.

My point exactly. And my point about the history and equity was precisely your point--Cleveland has a proud history and great fanbase. Therefore putting "Cleveland" on the front of the uniform is the wrong move IMO. That's why the uniform change is the wrong move. The Browns have been bad on the field, but they are one of the great histprical teams, and should treat their uniforms as such. That's why the President's Oregon quote was offensive to me--Cleveland doesn't need to be Oregon, they are better.
