OT-UK loses
Only one number one seed left. The best part of this is that (1) We won't have to see that super-douche John Calipari sitting on the sidelines for the rest of the tourney, and (2) We won't have to hear all about UK's super one and done freshman. I honestly hope that the NCAA can find something that will expose Calipari for the cheater he is.
Good riddance.
And now that Bob Huggins has taken care of Calipari, he can go get smoked in the Final Four.

Besides being almost as douchey, I don't think I can handle all the "WV won a title after your coach left them" talk...
Off to the NCBA (Nobody Cares Basketball Assoc.).
I have a bunch of very unhappy in-laws at this point.
I can handle (1) & (2) if it means my bracket was right in saying Kentucky would be the NCAA Tournament Champs. But that went down the drain 20 minutes ago.
I would rather see a college TEAM win then a bunch of 1 and done allstars. Its good for the game that they lost.
I agree 100%. I would enjoy college basketball so much more if the NBA would follow in the footsteps of the NFL, and require at least 3 years after high school before being eligible to be drafted.
I would enjoy basketball more as a whole if they just got rid of the stupid one year of college rule and went back to the way it was before. Let kids choose. Wall didn't need a year in college, he didn't get a whole lot better at bball and as far as "education" is concerned...please...
I know a lot of kids make the leap that aren't ready and blah blah woof woof (anyone heard of the NBA draft committee idea? that would solve a great deal of probems with regards to high school players leaving early), but seriously college basketball is a complete farce. I'd rather watch the NBA. At least they have some level of honesty...
you spelled Bemidji wrong
Hopefully Wall and Cousins don't forget to grab their checks on the way out.

Someone tweeted that during the game, Coach Cal yelled at Cousins, "My God, do you want to coach this team?"
March 27th, 2010 at 11:42 PM ^
Yeah, I get the feeling he's going to make some Lottery Team VERY lucky.
(Pistons, noooooooooooo!!!)

Sour grapes...
if only beilein could recruit like that.
March 27th, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
sounds like you've got a full diaper over Kentucky and the squid being sent packing.
March 27th, 2010 at 10:34 PM ^
Is that you?
March 27th, 2010 at 11:02 PM ^
Mike Rosenberg, right here!
Posting under the moniker "pz" ... SERIOUSLY?
Come on man, you're better than that.
March 27th, 2010 at 11:44 PM ^
If he had put out that article BEFORE the everyone had done their brackets, I probably would have picked WV. I mean, when you're on a roll for being wrong, you're on a roll...

Lets just not go off the deep end with the guilty until proven innocent meme. Only makes us look like jerks.
March 27th, 2010 at 10:59 PM ^
Caliparis last 2 schools getting banged into the ground for violations right after he leaves means nothing I'm sure.
March 27th, 2010 at 11:22 PM ^
And his violations with this team?
Come on, I dont want to sit here and defend him, but it is a shame for us to be so accusatory in light of our own past problems.
For those of you who think I'm some kind of a downer, you're wrong. I graduated in 05 and cheer as crazily as anyone for ALL UM athletics. Come on, now.
March 27th, 2010 at 11:42 PM ^
where your coming from, but Calipari's track record makes you wonder when/if the NCAA finally decides to drop the bomb on him/Kentucky.
March 28th, 2010 at 12:01 AM ^
Honestly, why defend Calipari at this point? He's a two-time rulebreaker. Maybe he's cleaned up his act now, but he's hardly earned the benefit of the doubt. Fool me one, shame on you. Fool me twice...
March 28th, 2010 at 12:34 AM ^
And it was just last year that he got caught breaking rules at Memphis. How it is the school faces sanctions but not the coach who caused them? He's broken rules everywhere he's been and within the past year, I seriously doubt he has stopped now.

For a team so talented as theirs they have major outside shooting and free throw problems.

Fab Five remain the best group of freshman money can buy!
March 27th, 2010 at 11:45 PM ^
It's not even close.
Kinda close. This was the round where M beat Ohio State in OT to reach the final four.
Ah yes, I remember it like it was nearly 20 years ago. Rose missing the tying jumper at the end of regulation and Webber moving Chris Jent out of the way like a rag doll, then hitting the put back to get the game into OT.
EDIT I have been thinking about this all day. It may have been Funderburke that Webber abused
But +1 for "Funderburke". Not only for remembering, but just getting to hear and say "Funderburke" again.
Thanks, I think it was Funderburke, just before the 2:00 of this video. Webber abused Jent the rest of the game. Damn watching Webber finish at the rim is impressive. That was such an awesome game.

March 27th, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
getting past Tennessee...
March 27th, 2010 at 11:40 PM ^
Heard all that vs. Maryland...then N. Iowa. Dude can coach. I'm just glad his PG isn't healthy, because they'd probably be favorites for the whole thing at this point if he was still around.
Here's for the tradition rich programs Final Four of Butler, WV, Tennessee and Baylor!
Tennessee is the first team they've run into that is more talented than them. Pearl is no slouch when it comes to coaching.
March 28th, 2010 at 10:07 AM ^
and plus, theyve got weapons!
March 28th, 2010 at 10:51 AM ^
UT isn't more talented that State. Pearl is a pretty good coach but I would still have to give the edge to Izzo and frickin' sparty.
March 28th, 2010 at 12:01 PM ^
Even without Lucas? IDK... we'll see
But I was right.
March 27th, 2010 at 10:36 PM ^
family living in KY this is a great moment. I was watching the game with a couple of them and it is just too unbearable listening. At one point some old guy that is my uncle's friend went on a rant about how Cousins is better than Wilt Chamberlain.(Not joking) I am not a WV fan but I was really happy they took KY down.
March 27th, 2010 at 10:41 PM ^
who'll testify that Cousins' got nothing on the Stilt.

I think Kintuck coulda tuck em iffin they had yer cousin

March 27th, 2010 at 10:53 PM ^
KoB, I presume?
March 27th, 2010 at 11:47 PM ^
I think you mean self-loathing. Nothing we do or say to others matches our ability to mercilessly destroy our own fans double negatives and hanging participles.
Oh, and God help you if you use 6-8-6 in your haikus.
March 28th, 2010 at 12:28 AM ^
Calipari can't coach. He can recruit better than anyone, but he can't coach the talent he gets. Coaching of the players cost Memphis the title. Calipari can't coach.
I thought the Kansas coach made the biggest gaffe in that game. Kansas controlled the game all the way and then inexplicably went to a box and one to stop Chris Douglas-Roberts, at which point Rose finally went off and got Memphis back in it.
Kentucky never figured out West Virginia's 1-3-1 zone and as a result the Mountaineers stayed in it nearly the entire game. "The 1-3-1 bothered us," Calipari said. "We tried different things and it bothered us more than I thought it would."
Losers lament. You shoot 4-32 12.5% from Three and 16-29 55.2% from the line and you aren't going to be effective. It is a very tough grind to make the Final Four, especially for a bunch of teenagers.
