OT: UFC fighter Nick Diaz can now fight August 1
He was suspended for 5 years for marijuana which would have basically ended his career at his age and it was reduced to 18 months.

I am still not 100 percent sold on US-wide legalization, but I AM 100 per cent sold that sports leagues WAY WAY over punnish its use.

I agree with the latter part of your statement. Marijuana is not a big deal and I don't see anything wrong with legalizing it, especially if the state and federal governments will get taxes from it.

I can't think of a particularly good reason why it should be illegal.

The only good one I've heard (I'm not real familiar with the stuff or how it affects you) is that there isn't a good way to test levels in a DUI type situation.

Or just look for the guy going 20 in 55 and laughing as you roll up to his car asking for his ID.

Is there any evidence it would help an athlete anyway? Pain tolerance maybe?

The ruling was insane and the Nevada state athletic commission is a kangaroo court with no consistency in their rulings. Diaz should never fight in Nevada again. Happy to see it reduced finally. He'll be available to fight on August 1st. Too bad not in time for UFC 200.

The Diaz brothers are chumps

Getting a 5 year ban probably had a lot, if not everything, to do with his feud with Dana White who we can assume is quite connected to the NSAC. I'd venture to guess that the Diaz brothers did not get a Christmas card from him. 5 years for a positive THC test reduced to 18 months is great for Diaz, but even 18 months is too long compared to the 12 month ban of Anderson Silva for two positive PED tests. People can dislike the Diaz brothers for a plethora of reasons, but the still deserve equal treatment. I've followed MMA closely from the first UFC event, to the buyout by the Fertitta brothers and White, up to the present and I can't think of a single instance in which a fighter has endured worse treatment by ownership.

Happy about this. The Diaz brothers aren't a model for how you want your children to behave. They are however, great fighters. I for one always mark out for both Nick& Nate Diaz.
