OT: UF fans bitter about George Campbell

Submitted by Decatur Jack on

File this under General SEC Schadenfreude.

Seems like a few Florida Gator fans are a little butthurt about George Campbell's commitment, and most are preaching that IT WON'T LAST! HE A GATORRRR!

Read the entire thread for delicious and hilarious comments.

The butthurt is strong with this one:

To me, this commitment really doesn't make any sense. I get the interest in Clemson with the offense they run and WRs they can sell him on that they have produced, but Michigan? They threw for less than 200 yds a game.............in the Big 10. I'm sure they are selling him on the future and not the past the same as UF, but I don't get what he could have been told that put Michigan above Clemson or UF.

Ok out of the Big 3 here Florida has more real fans but overal I don't any of these school compare to Michigan, Bama , Ohio etc. I just see a lot of flip flopping here between the U and UF that is where I'm coming from, maybe in central Florida and Tampa there is a better UF fan showing.

Nothing compares to Michigan and Ohio, so you got that right. And I guess we can include Bama as a newcomer. Truthfully, even Florida has only been good for thirty years (1980's ish?). So if you're 70, it's all bandwagon. /relevant for 134 years

Not true at all.  Look at Bama and a few other schools in the south selling 50K+ ticket for their spring games.  To just say OSU and UM are in 1 class and everyone in the south is another class "except Bama" is very narrow - there is a ton of passion down there even at schools like Ole Miss (considered to have the best tailgate/atmosphere in the country) and LSU and others.  Miami is a massive bandwagon school - heck all their college and pro sports are but in Jacksonville there is either Jacksonsille or UF.  (yeah its an hour away just like AA is an hour away from Detroit)

As for this thread in general, be real dude, if McDowell heads to Florida the place would be in uproar. Or have we already forgotten about Dawson? Fans are the same everywhere more or less - you have more crazies at some schools but the bell curve fans (middle 80%) are going to act the same everywhere.

This gave me a good chuckle!

Florida fans think they will get him back. Check Hokes close ratio! I don't think he has lost two many recruits after they committed. Maybe 2 in 3 years?

Remember when Adrian Arrington caught that ball against their safety's head? That was awesome. George Campbell probably thinks so too.

They think that the no visit policy will make it more interesting (?) and that Hoke will make an exception for someone of Campbell's caliber. 1) When has Hoke made an exception like that? (spoiler: never) and 2) What part of "no visits" means he'll want to visit Florida more?

"I'm sure they are selling him on the future and not the past the same as UF"

At this point, hasn't he already answered his own question?  That should have been the whole post:

"George Campbell committed to Michigan.  I guess they sold him on the future and not on the past, just like we tried to do.  Oh look, we just picked up a really good 2015 receiver of our own and I should probably not be complaining right now."

http://m.espn.go.com/wireless/story?storyId=9514697 Like all Wolverine fans I was excited with the Campbell commit yesterday. I realize signing day for 2015 is quite far away, and GC is also from the state of Florida. So I'd be lying a little bit if I didn't say I was a tad bit nervous. Reading up on the Campbell commit yesterday on ESPN, I stumbled across a gem located directly after the short article in the comment section. Mason Cole's sister pretty much breaks down the fact that Cole and Campbell's high school coach will not let his players commit unless it is a solid commit. He doesn't play that changing your mind game. I know, I know, one could lose IQ points from reading the comments section. The thing is, it is the very first comment after the article so it is in plain view, see for yourself.

UF Fans also seem to ignore the fact that Florida, under Phillips, had the worst passing offense in the SEC last year at 143.9 ypg.

I mean, Auburn was better at it than Florida, which tells you something right there.

Florida is moving to a Boise State offensive attack (pass-centric pro), so the "butthurt", as you describe, it is understandable. They needed a guy like Campbell.

"I get the interest in Clemson with the offense they run and WRs they can sell him on that they have produced, but Michigan? They threw for less than 200 yds a game.............in the Big 10."

The writer might have made his point more precisely if he had said "they threw for fewer than 200 yds a game . . . .in the Big 10." Of course extenuating circumstances can explain that stat: Borges's take on how to use Denard most effectively, Denard's arm being not exactly Bradyesque, no standout deep receiver threat to extend the D. By contrast, young Mr Campbell will come into an offense that will feature (we feverently hope) a Shane Morris arm, a bevy of other capable receivers, and a stout offensive line. In fact, by the time George gets on the field, 200 yards might well be a first half stat (well we can dream can't we?).

Anyway, the writer's pique seems no more severe than any fan's who laments a blue-chip, in-state kid opting for greener pastures.

A co-worker and friend is a die-hard Alabama fan (he's not the only one here)... Prior to the game in Jerry World, I tried to provoke some lively conversation... His response? "Michigan... You guys have that quarterback, right?"

He wasn't talking smack, he was serious.

I have an aunt who was raised in Georgia and lived in Florida for a good portion of her life.  I happened to be at a family gathering when we trounced Florida in the tournament.  When we went up by about 20 in the first half, my aunt's quote:

"HAHA, ohh this is fitting.  The only fanbase more obnoxious than Michigan's is the Gators'"

After reading that whole thread, I will again say that the setup of the website and content in the website here at MGoBlog is  much better than the other schools' blogs.
