And Celtic is likely out of it. Juve up 2-0.
Okay, I'll bite . . . Why wouldn't you root for a fellow Scottish team like Michigan fans generally root for Ohio State against SEC teams, for example? Doesn't make sense to me - countrymen are supposed to stick together, no?

Celtic vs. Rangers used to be Catholics vs. Protestants in Glasgow (and still is in a way). Until about 1990 it featured an all Catholic Celtic team against an all Protestant Rangers team. It might be the world's most deadly rivalry.
I think I knew that background (forgot) but didn't realize that it still dominates the fan base.
Oh, and no religion!

We answered. You can mention religion without using flamethrower.
That rivalry is more than two American football teams who hate each other meeting in November. It intersects political, religious, and traditional differences. Some of these differences go back centuries in England, Scotland, and Ireland. A Celtic win further advances their political agenda, and that is not something I support. So it's a lot more complicated than despising a conference as a whole. That is why I will never offer any support for Celtic.
The Celtic-Rangers rivalry has undertones that go as deep as they come in the world of sports. These undertones are cultural, and religious in nature and, to be honest, the rivalry eclipses Michigan-Ohio in terms of pure intensity and hatred.
+1 for "this is why the Pope resigned"
-1 for the fact that Rangers are still playing against part time plumbers behind high school parking lots.

Lily livered ref at Celtic. Juventus defensive wrestling should have resulted in at least one penalty. Apply the laws ref. stain on game
Have been following online since I am at work but it looks like Celtic just ha happen to them what Celtic and rangers try to do every year when they get to this level: sit back, get dominated, take advantage of their few chances.

Oh Bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, bouncy.. NaNaNaNaNaNa!
A loss for Celtic is a win for Rangers..
WATP
Except that since we can be pretty sure the second place team in the SPL will get laughed out of the qualifying rounds for the next couple years, Rangers need Celtic to rack up all the coefficient points they can get if they want two UCL spots left when they get back up.

Well, once you've beaten Barcelona, getting motivated to play a team of mere mortals may be too much to expect. 'Salright, then...Champions League play after New Year's is unheard of in the SFA these days...glad it was Celtic representing.
That red card on Ibra was such crap. Hopefully it won't hurt in the return game with PSG at home and 2 away goals already in the books
Ill agree that it probably shouldn't have been called.... But it was a studs-up challenge and he didn't come close to the ball. The letter of the law supports the red card, it was dangerous.
Tenim un nom el sap tothom. Barca, Barca, BAAARCA!
I feel like it's a bit rough in the last minute of a game. Give him a yellow to put him on notice the rest of the tournament but don't give him a red for something meaningless that can dramatically change the next leg
It's harsh, but studs-up tackles are essentially always red card offenses. They fall under "serious foul play" and aren't really subjective in nature. If you're going to call a penalty on Ibra in that last minute, it's going to be a red. The only time you'll see a studs-up challenge get a yellow card is if the challenge was very close to the ball. Ibra was miles from connecting with the ball. I'm not surprised he got a red, he's the same player who kicked multiple teammates in the head at AC Milan (apparently for fun... Once he kicked a teammate in the head during a TV interview). He has got to be more disciplined in his challenges. Ultimately I still think PsG goes through.

Wow, what a dramatic ending at the Mestalla. Valencia still need to grab 2 goals is Paris, but that is not impossible.
Edit: Goals not gals...
I can't decide which would be easier for them... Grabbing two goals in Paris or grabbing two gals in Paris. I lived in Paris for a bit, and based on my experience, I think Valencia should go for the gals.

Such a demoralizing loss for Celtic. Put everything into it. Now I fear they'll be on the end of a real pasting in the return leg.
'We're a unit, not a one-man show. The name on the front of the shirt is more important than the one on the back.'
to give up football for Lent was a bit rash. No matter...they've given a good account of themselves overall...I'm used to them being out of the UEFA (sorry, EUROPA) Cup at this point of the campaign, so this year was a nice distraction. We'll always have the Barca tie.
The Spanish league has to be the best in all of Europe, right? By my count they have 4 out of 16 still standing (Malaga, Valencia, Real, Barca).
