OT: Two students injured in shooting near MSU campus
http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/01/justice/michigan-state-university-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
Gunman appears to still be at large, but no fatalities have been reported; one student is in critical condition.
I hope the gunman is apprehended with no more injuries and that the student recovers promptly.
MOD EDIT - forgot to do this earlier. This happened in Cedar Village, so near campus but not on it. - LSA

There you have it. Judge, jury, and executioner. Good reply.

Another sad event, this time hitting so close to home. Wishes for the speediest of recoveries. Gunmen rarely get away with this - absolute cowards.

There was another shooting just off campus at Ferris State at 4:15 this morning.

But it didn't gain much traction apparently, so I'll pitch it again: "HOW ABOUT WE QUIT FUCKING SHOOTING PEOPLE?"
February 1st, 2014 at 9:15 AM ^
I'm intrigued. Tell me more about how this would work. Are you suggesting that people who would normally shoot other people should stop doing so or are you saying that we should all stay inside to prevent the shooter from targeting us? This seems awfully complicated...

I admit I haven't worked out the details. It's just a rough idea.

If we could get Mitch McGary to write it on a whiteboard, it would probably work.

"Guns don't kill people. It's ... just that noise they make."

I e-gree with you 100%
However, we can't have a rational message board discussion about Rich Rodriguez without it turning into a bunch of name calling and e-fighting.

I am officially concerned that MGoBlog hasn't come out strongly against home invasion yet.

Somehow I don't think my left wing views would be welcome here. It only took me several months to recover my mgopoints.

Could've fooled me after the last week. A "let's talk about the structure of judicial processes" flurry of replies took about 15 or so posts in this thread to break out.

I missed that
thank hillary duff.

somehow aren't welcome on the NPR blog. Strange.
February 1st, 2014 at 12:21 PM ^
It's not the left wing views that are the reason, as I assure you that you aren't alone in having them.
It's that this really isn't the right medium for political discussions.

***Not a campus shooting*** retitle
I hope the students recover.
It's pretty tiring that everytime someone dies or there are shots fired near campus it's posted on Mgoblog. I come here to "somewhat" get away from the real world. Do we post everytime someone dies from a medical mistake in the US? Because it happens 71 times as often as someone is murdered. Not looking to debate but I come here for fun.

Students were involved, it was very close to campus, and many on the board have family/ friends at MSU or in that area. Sorry if the board is not tailored to your desires.
February 1st, 2014 at 9:41 AM ^
People with issues know now how easy it is to walk into a school of any kind and shoot till they get the attention and revenge they think they deserve... And it won't stop until it's no longer "safe" for them to do so.
Hopefully people recover quickly and fully and the shooter is brought to justice!

It's 'near' MSU campus...both are students tho.
As much as we all disdain school shootings...this isn't a 'school shooting' from what I can gather.
It's just a shooting involving MSU students, near campus.
Logic: If I, a UofM grad, go to Briarwood mall and a lunatic shoots me...is it a school shooting?
This is happening wayyyyy to much. There are crazy ppl everywhere, keep your guard up, but live your life. If your number is called...so be it. I'm not living in fear.
Just my 2 cents worth. Happy Saturday everyone. Also, hope for a speedy recovery to the students injured and justice for the shooter.

The article did say "This does not appear to be a random act". If true, it implies that the people involved knew each other and had some history. Hopefully, it is not a case of innocent bystanders being targeted in a random act.
I can control who I hang out with, but I can't control being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

This sounds a little like the football player at Eastern who was shot to death at an off campus apartment last year. A target shooting. But thankfully these people survived.
Hope they catch the bastard that did this.

One of the victims has passed. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family.

Thoughts and prayers go out to anyone affected by this tragedy.

For fucks sake, humanity.
February 1st, 2014 at 11:02 AM ^
Prayers for the victims, their families, and the Spartan community. Sad, indeed.
February 1st, 2014 at 11:11 AM ^
There was also a shooting near the campus of Ferris State that injured a student. Prayers to the victims in both incidents.

That apartment complex and the surrounding ones are the source for almost every act of stupidity out there and it's a damn shame. Regardless of sports and the blind fandom that can cloud even the most rational being, MSU is a great school with a beautiful campus and an really good people. Hopefully they catch the coward and can give back some piece of mind to the Spartan community.

Cedar Village on (old) Cedar street. Right across from 209 Cedar Street. (I used to live there) There is a seperate apartment complex and the shooting happened in the bottom floor. Drug deal gone wrong is what the neighbors predict.

Let's hold off on the why for now... Saw a comment from the victims girlfriends father on fox17. This sucks. Young kid, life ahead of him. Just fucking sucks
February 1st, 2014 at 1:11 PM ^
Horrible news. Cedar Village is literally next to the bridge that leads to the law school and some dorms, so very close. Hope that everything is taken care of as quickly and safely as possible.
February 1st, 2014 at 1:43 PM ^
Seems like a pretty normal shooting to me. If this had happened a few miles west in regular Lansing, I doubt anyone would have heard about it, but because its near a college campus, all of sudden its huge news. My guess is probably something drug-related, I dont there's really any gang violence up there. But maybe I just watch too much Detroit news.
February 1st, 2014 at 2:21 PM ^
How about you tell that to the young mans family, who happen to come from a small, quiet community in west Michigan.
The amount of assuming that goes on in this board is just unbelievable.
February 1st, 2014 at 1:50 PM ^
One of the victims was taken off of line support. How tragic and sad...
February 1st, 2014 at 2:58 PM ^
My daughter is a student there. Just told one of the victims did not make it. I wont lose sleep if the find and kill the guilty party.
