OT - Tressel Interviewed by Colts for Head Coaching Position

Submitted by JHendo on

ESPN is reporting that for the second time since the firing of Jim Caldwell, the owner of the Colts has spoke to Jim Tressel about their head coaching vacancy.

I'm not sure how I feel about it.  I care about the NFL very little outside of the Lions and fantasy football, but maybe if Tressel stupidly gets this job, it may make me interested again (at least in the fact that I'll have a team to root against).

Any thoughts from big NFL fans here, or even better, any (possibly soon to be ex-) Colts fans?

You' re right, no one cares about tattoos. What they do care about is a person who knowingly lies to the NCAA, the media and the public to be able to win. Offering benefits that are not permissible allowed him to recruit with an unfair advantage, which is what people would constitute cheating. But hey, as long as he won, the idiots in Ohio will consider him a demi-god, right?

Actually you're wrong.  Tressel is considered a full-fledged God down here in Ohio by the buckeye faithful.  Nothing demi about him as far as their concerned.

Which is why the cheating doesnt bother them.  God's play by their own rules.

It'd be a great hire for the Colts and for the NFL.

People love tales of downfall and redemption. Pro football is an entertainment business, first and foremost. The more fan interest generated, pro or con, the better.

Harbaugh is the most recent coach who has proven that a great college coach can move to the pros and win. And despite the fact that he's an a-hole of the highest order, Tressel has proven that he certainly knows how to win.

So, in hiring Tressel, a team gets a proven winner, a nice little publicity boost at no cost, and something for opposing fans to go nuts over. It's brilliant.

If this happens, how much fun would it be to see a pro team hire Joe Pa for a brief run?

Would it be a constant reminder of Ohio's scandal, or a chance to rehabilitate himself? That probably depends on how well he does.

The success that Harbaugh is having from the system he has in place in SF maybe has a lot to do with Indy interest in Tressel. Tressel did control the B1G with his system for ten years.

There will probably be some Buckeye fans I know jumping back on the Colts bandwagon. I won't have a problem passively wishing the Colts ill will while hoping for that elusive Cleveland Super Bowl appearance.

Jim Irsay and the Colts have been brilliant so far, sandbagging their way into a chance at having about 20-30 consecutive years of having a franchise QB.  I can't believe they would blow such great work by hiring Tressel.  Tressel cannot coach when the talent on the field is remotely equal.

In the NFL, other than sandbagging the draft, you can't cheat to acquire a personnel advantage. Without grossly superior personnel, especially against NFL coaches, Tressel will be lucky to be a .500 coach.
