OT: Treme
So I know there are a lot of fans of The Wire here, I figured I'd give this a mention for those of you who, like me, hadn't previously heard of this show. I apologize if I was the only one out of the loop about this show, but I hadn't heard of it until yesterday and now I'm really glad I did.
It's a new show that started on HBO last week from David Simon, the creator of The Wire, and returns the actors that played Bunk and Freamon, coincidentally my favorite two characters from The Wire. In addition, it's got some bigger name talent in John Goodman and Steve Zahn, while I know one of my favorite parts of The Wire was the largely unknown cast, these two fit in very well with the rest of the cast and show, especially Goodman.
Anyways, it's similar to The Wire in structure (no real main character, deeply personal look at a city from the point of view of its inhabitants), except this time it's set in post-Katrina New Orleans and focuses largely on Musicians instead of Law Enforcement. The first two episodes have me hooked, and I highly recommend it to any fans of The Wire, or anyone in general. If anything just check it out for the amazing music that's been in each episode so far.
Have the second episode on DVR, haven't seen it yet, but really enjoyed the first episode.
As with Simon, it's a slow show, but if his past work is any indication, pretty good.
I watched the first one, but I haven't seen this new one yet. Might have to check it out.
I'm one of the many people on this board who lives in New Orleans. There has been a lot of buzz about Treme down here for the last few months. I've really enjoyed the first 2 episodes, and I'm excited that Simon is producing the show. If you liked The Wire, then I would highly recommend watching this show.
come to Cooter Browns for games this past year or two?
you would know me if you did.
Are you the LOUD guy? No judgment made, but only one M fan regular I can think of that voiced his opinions loudly enough to be memorable to strangers.
guilty. i also yelled at an OSU fan who started being a dick for no reason about how it was no wonder planes confused him bc he was so fucking old and then ended up becoming drinking buddies (non-OSU weekend). that one seems to have lived on in lore.
edit: to be fair, after finding you on the internets, i don't quite remember meeting you though... so it's still possible there's more than one loud person.

Are you the one who put your M hat on the lucky fish behind the bar?
yup!
I was the one who wore my "Worst State Ever" shirt the day of the OSU game. I got a lot of heat from all the buckeye fans there all day.

I live about an hour away from NOLA and almost came to Cooter Brown's for a couple games. I don't know any M fans in Louisiana and watch most of the games by myself. I was afraid of making the drive and no M fans being at Cooter Brown's. Is it a good environment?

join that if you're on Facebook. i will not be here next year but it's an excellent group of people. considering i'd say i'm the 'asshole/loud one' of the group, and i don't think i'm thaaaat bad (and won't be there anymore), i'm sure you'd enjoy the crowd.
Thanks (you too Big Shot). I'll definetly make it to a game or two next year. I'm sure it will be much better than watching and yelling during games by myself.....I don't want to join the facebook group because I'm not an alum. Good looking though.
There are always a lot of M fans there on game day. I also went to Brunos for a couple games last year and there was a big crowd of M fans there too. It's always more fun to watch the game with fellow fans.
Not to hijack the thread, Treme is amazing. Any of yall going to jazz fest this year? Ill be in Michigan the first weekend for graduation. Ill go to one of the second weekend days.
I'll be there for Pearl Jam. I absolutely hate the stacked schedule, where everyone I potentially would like to see is scheduled at the exact same time. Pearl Jam, Jeff Beck and Old Crow Medicine Show all overlap. This really decreases the perceived value of the ticket.
Of those choices, I'd go to Old Crow Medicine Show.
I'm not sure exactly when I'll be at Jazz fest since I'm in grad school and it's right around finals, but I'll definitely be there at least 1 day.
I started watching because I was so obsessed with The Wire. Aside from Simon, a lot of the actors from the Wire are in the show also. I really like it so far. It's really unique the way the characters are handled and how the plot sort of slowly unravels- there really is nothing like it on TV. The awesome music really adds to it also.
Sunday night TV on HBO is always good. I'm really looking forward to Boardwalk Empire also. It's about the rise of the mob in Atlantic City- coming out in the fall. Scorcese is directing the show and there's a ton of A-list talent...
I can't believe you mentioned Boardwalk Empire without mentioning
THE RETURN OF OMAR
Well, Michael K. Williams. But either way, Omar was definitely my favorite character in The Wire and I can't wait to see Williams with some new and different material (no homo).
for reporting in.
gonna watch the second tonight. David Simon ftw.
Haven't seen the show yet, but as a big fan of the Wire, I'll be sure to check it out.
I did however catch a preview of an episode in which someone was asking Steve Zahn's character about crime in the neighborhood and he responded "It's never been safer, all the criminals went to Houston". Thought it was hilarious because as a Houston resident (for the past 3 years), I can tell you that all the natives here blame NO Katrina evacuees for all of the crime... like this city was fucking Mayberry prior to Katrina.
The 2nd episode is great as well and I think Treme is going to give a authentic look into N.O. It is nice to see HBO putting some quality series together after struggling for a bit without the Sopranos.
without a brutal murder or nudity in the 1st episode
then i watched the 2nd episode
I love the music so far...and Khandi Alexander. I just looked it up and can't believe she's 52.
