OT: Treme

So I know there are a lot of fans of The Wire here, I figured I'd give this a mention for those of you who, like me, hadn't previously heard of this show. I apologize if I was the only one out of the loop about this show, but I hadn't heard of it until yesterday and now I'm really glad I did. It's a new show that started on HBO last week from David Simon, the creator of The Wire, and returns the actors that played Bunk and Freamon, coincidentally my favorite two characters from The Wire. In addition, it's got some bigger name talent in John Goodman and Steve Zahn, while I know one of my favorite parts of The Wire was the largely unknown cast, these two fit in very well with the rest of the cast and show, especially Goodman. Anyways, it's similar to The Wire in structure (no real main character, deeply personal look at a city from the point of view of its inhabitants), except this time it's set in post-Katrina New Orleans and focuses largely on Musicians instead of Law Enforcement. The first two episodes have me hooked, and I highly recommend it to any fans of The Wire, or anyone in general. If anything just check it out for the amazing music that's been in each episode so far.

Have the second episode on DVR, haven't seen it yet, but really enjoyed the first episode. As with Simon, it's a slow show, but if his past work is any indication, pretty good.

I'm one of the many people on this board who lives in New Orleans. There has been a lot of buzz about Treme down here for the last few months. I've really enjoyed the first 2 episodes, and I'm excited that Simon is producing the show. If you liked The Wire, then I would highly recommend watching this show.

guilty. i also yelled at an OSU fan who started being a dick for no reason about how it was no wonder planes confused him bc he was so fucking old and then ended up becoming drinking buddies (non-OSU weekend). that one seems to have lived on in lore. edit: to be fair, after finding you on the internets, i don't quite remember meeting you though... so it's still possible there's more than one loud person.

I live about an hour away from NOLA and almost came to Cooter Brown's for a couple games. I don't know any M fans in Louisiana and watch most of the games by myself. I was afraid of making the drive and no M fans being at Cooter Brown's. Is it a good environment?

I'll be there for Pearl Jam. I absolutely hate the stacked schedule, where everyone I potentially would like to see is scheduled at the exact same time. Pearl Jam, Jeff Beck and Old Crow Medicine Show all overlap. This really decreases the perceived value of the ticket.

I started watching because I was so obsessed with The Wire. Aside from Simon, a lot of the actors from the Wire are in the show also. I really like it so far. It's really unique the way the characters are handled and how the plot sort of slowly unravels- there really is nothing like it on TV. The awesome music really adds to it also. Sunday night TV on HBO is always good. I'm really looking forward to Boardwalk Empire also. It's about the rise of the mob in Atlantic City- coming out in the fall. Scorcese is directing the show and there's a ton of A-list talent...

Haven't seen the show yet, but as a big fan of the Wire, I'll be sure to check it out. I did however catch a preview of an episode in which someone was asking Steve Zahn's character about crime in the neighborhood and he responded "It's never been safer, all the criminals went to Houston". Thought it was hilarious because as a Houston resident (for the past 3 years), I can tell you that all the natives here blame NO Katrina evacuees for all of the crime... like this city was fucking Mayberry prior to Katrina.

The 2nd episode is great as well and I think Treme is going to give a authentic look into N.O. It is nice to see HBO putting some quality series together after struggling for a bit without the Sopranos.
