OT: Tough Loss to Stomach for the Wings
Going into the third period with a 2-1 lead Detroit saw a victory in the making for a while but then it slipped. Ignila made that happen by netting his first goal on Detroit in 20 games to give the flames the tying goal. Calgary used their next power-play to their advantage to make it a 3-2 lead and an empty netter for a 4-2 win leaving Wings fans devastated and stunned. The fact was in my eyes that Calgary came to play and Detroit just got out hustled the whole night. The Flames started off possessive and controlled play in Detroit's zone and wore down our defense. Its simple as that. Howard did what he could to make the saves and on the other side Kipprusoff played great and his defense helped him out. Fortunately for the Wings they are only a point behind the Flames and they can still leap frog into 8th with a Detroit win and Calgary loss which might happen this Thursday because the Flames are playing the Sens, who they have not done well against. If Detroit wants to be inside instead of outside looking in they HAVE to beat the Wild at home in the Joe this Thursday. It is now either finish 8th or don't finish at all.

Yeah, that 3rd period was really disheartening to watch.

But as soon as Calgary scored on the power play I knew it was over. Their defense shut us down the whole night and Kipper brought his game but we are still alive at 9th and with a one point trail behind the Flames. We are still in this thing.
You sound like my uncle. If his team loses, he claims he turns the channel the instant the other team scores the GWG or takes a big lead. If his team wins, he watched the whole game even if they were behind in some or most of it. Guaranteed I could call him right now and he'd say he changed the channel when Calgary went up 3-2. I'd bet 500 MGoPoints on it.
I made note of Iginla's 19 game goalless streak against us yesterday and I feel partially responsible for what happened. I'm sorry.
But I think the guilt you're feeling is punishment enough.
As soon as I saw that iginla scored I said "If i find out who did that I'm going to neg them."
Bad Aquaman! BAD!!
has not won since October 17, 2009 on a 5-loss streak.
(PLEASE WORK, PLEASE WORK...)
When it comes down to it, I don't believe there is a chance in hell the leaders of the Wings will allow us to not make the playoffs. It just won't happen.
Sorry for the Double post
The Red Wings got outshot 15-4 in the third period. Calgary just wanted it more. To come out in a four-point must win game like that is inexcusable, and it's the reason why the Red Wings aren't going to make the playoffs.
I will take that bet. BTW, is Nashville going to miss the playoffs b/c they lost a 4 pt game to the Wings? It was a tough loss but Wings can easily still grab 7th.
....for sure- I was there last night- the Wings forgot that there were 3 periods in a hockey game- the 1st period they played so-so- after Calgary scored in the 2nd- the Wings woke up. When Detroit couldn't clear their zone time after time after time- it was over.....no D and you gotta clear the puck out for your Goalie- Jimmy Howard had no chance on any of those goals!
He knocked it into the net with his own stick.
After playing 2 solid periods, they just fell apart. They just aren't winning the battles anymore. I don't know if it's Babcock or something else, but whenever they get a one goal lead they seem to just go to the 1-2-2 prevent forecheck and lose all their aggressiveness.
