OT: tOSU offers Glenville QB Cardale Jones

Submitted by randyfloyd on

Over the weekend the vest offers QB Cardale Jones from Glenville High (per local sports radio here in cbus 97.1 the fan)....

They already have Braxton Miller, but QB depth is a concern for them, and I'm not sure if they feel Pryor is really coming back next year.

With the suspension looming over the heads of the 5 players, I truly don't believe any of them will be back next year.  With the suspension possibly hurting their draft status, I just don't see them coming back.  The only one who I might through a bone too, would be maybe Sanzenbacher.

This is correct; the deadline to declare for the draft was January 15th.  Also I'm suprised to hear that OSU is offering Jones.  I assumed he was not going to qualify.

Not any more.  That used to be true prior to E. Gordon Gee's first reign, but he moved OSU away from the traditional land grant model and limited open enrollment (if that's the term) to spring quarter, and later phased it out entirely.

My freshman year at OSU was 2003 and that's when they started getting selective. I had plenty of friends that didnt get accepted. They pretty much don't even look at you without a 24-25 on the ACT. Don't let the football team give the school a bad rap anymore.

It was 2 hours away, and out of state fees for Michigan were just too expensive. Ohio State had my program (that I started in) and any resource you could think of. The whole family is Blue though, and my buddies loved me because I sold my student tickets at face value to them. Except for the 06 game, I had to go to that.

Look, I never said you weren't a smart person, just that one doesn't need to be smart to get in.

I'm not the first Michigan grad/fan to rip OSU as a university, and I won't be the last. I'm sorry if you were offended by my comment, but you probably shouldn't be.

You very well maybe right.  Posey may only be a 3-4 round player at best, but sitting on the bench for the first 5 games of next season is not going to do any of these players justice either.  That was my only reasoning for my post.  It maybe completely absurd  I just didn't see them coming back, that was until you all informed me that the NFL draft deadline is well past.

How can one NOT qualify for admission to OSU? Katzenmoyer was only semi-literate after graduating ....... imagine what he was like at admission, and now go a standard deviation lower than that?  Holy cats!

SI had a great article back when he was in college, and they listed his three classes.  One I remember was Golf, the other two were like "Awareness of walls in the 21st century" or something like that.  I distinctly remember thinking, even then, that if you were good at sports people tended to make exceptions for you.

I guess the OSU coaches told Cardale this,

If you come this fall we'll have 5 quarterbacks, if you come next spring (after prep) we'll have 3.

He understands Braxton Miller is there and is willing to compete and all, so we'll have to see if he decides to go prep and greyshirt. Otherwise, I think he'd be a good fit at Toledo. They're a pretty solid up-and coming team with a fun offense.

For those ridiculing OSU's admissions standards for offering a scholarship to this kid: how does this differ from what we're doing with Thomas Rawls?
