More focused on U-M hockey last night, I missed that Tomas Holmstrom played his 1000th NHL game, all with the Red Wings. (Per Winging It in Motown.) 257th overall pick in the 9th round of the 1994 draft, latest drafted player to reach 1000 (per Ken Daniels), and 6th Red Wing to reach 1000 games in the winged wheel.
Kudos to Homer! Not a great skater, but really tough in front of the net and having a knack for tipping the puck, he joins these Wings:
Gordie Howe, 1687 games
Alex Delvecchio, Nick Lidstrom, 1549
Steve Yzerman, 1514
Kris Draper, 1137
Tomas Holmstrom, 1000
Lidstrom will move into 2nd place tomorrow night.

Damn it's amazing to realize how great the Red Wings organization has been in the mid-90s through today. Depending on the number of years he goes, Lidstrom may catch Gordie. That is quite impressive.
