OT: Tim Hardaway Jr. traded

Submitted by Ricky from Sunnyvale on

Seems he is being sent to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Knicks are trading Tim Hardaway to the Hawks, who will draft Jerian Grant for the Knicks, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

McGary is looking legit. He's the one guy who has a chance to become a star. Stauskas still has a lot of hope. He was just dicked around by the shitshow that was the Kings' coaching carousel last year.

Edit: Big Mitch's per 36 numbers were 14.9points 12.2rebounds 1assist 1.2steals 1.2blocks, with plus shooting, solid defense, and he is still making those hilarious puppy off a leash hustle plays. He is also reportedly extending his range out to 3. A lot of people are going to regret passing on Mitch.

I mean, Russell Westbrook absolutely loves Mitch and Furious Styles hates everyone who doesn't give 1000%, 1000% of the time.

I'm well aware of Hardaway's defensive problems, but the same issues plague many guys (including Nik Stauskas).  We saw him evolve from a guy to who tried to get his to an excellent team player at Michigan (between soph and jr year).  A lot of that had to do with getting McGary, Stuaskas, Robinson around him.  Not playing on a woeful Knicks team and playing in a structured offense should be a boon for him.  We'll see about the defense - but he clearly has the athleticism to be at least decent.

He has potential, that's true. The NBA graveyard is full of athletic wings who have/had potential.

If he's on a vastly better team, his defensive stats will look better, but that's a fairly asinine point. Any player, regardless of how terrible they are on defense will look better if they move from a garbage team to an elite team, it still doesn't change the fact that they are terrible at defense. Timmy is just plain awful by every available defensive metric we have. Calling him a legit 3 and D player at this stage is nothing but wish thinking, because he hasn't even come close to proving he has any semblance of D.

This year was terrible for virtually all Knicks and I'll agree his defense wasn't very good for large stretches.  But he was a decent defender as a rookie, and on a Hawks team that stresses it he can be successful on that end.  And as for him being an offensive black hole, at least he could hit shots at times.  LOTS of guys on the Knicks struggled to do that.

This is what I keep trying to tell people. I guarantee I watch more NBA games than 95% of people on the blog, and what I don't know I go to the blogs or websites I trust of the teams in question I know little about. Knicks fans almost universally agree with what I see (and if I saw different I'd say it, consensus be damned), THJ is NOT a 3 and D player. Hell, he is barely  "3" player at this point.

I do have to agree about the 'D' part.  He could be a better defender, but he's never been the type of athlete you see in that 3 and D mold.  Though the fadeaway 3s are probably emblematic of a horrid offensive philosophy on that team.

But Phil Jackson has never fixed a team as an executive before, he's never built a team. So why do people assume he could fix the Knicks? The Knicks have been the Waterloo of plenty of NBA management and coaching talent before, but in Jackson's case they are asking one of the greatest coaches in the game to suddenly become a great executive. There aren't too many Pat Riley's out there.

I don't think you can judge his character from that one year if that's what you're doing. He was supposed to be "the man" after that freshman season and didn't handle the success or the bigger role the right way.

As a junior he was a completely different person and much more comfortable. Shot selection was better and he wasn't forcing anything trying to be "the man." He just played his role as the "jack of all trades" #2 player.

more referring to him just as a teammate in general. I had family inside that locker room, he wasn't the nicest guy on the team, he was mature enough to apologized when he left but he was a bit of a bully to some. Trey had to ride him, he improved but he still wasn't the best teammate and I can see him doing the same in NY, wouldn't be surprised if Melo wanted him out. He rode a thin line between individual and team mate.

Kevon Looney, he of former Michigan recruiting fame is still available. Rakeem Christmas is also still available. Cliff Alexander is another notable name still on the board.

Edit: Jay Bilas, why you copying me? Also, this is not the NBA Draft thread.
