OT: Tigers/Rangers Doubleheader 4/21

Submitted by Bocheezu on

In game 1, the Tigers are already down 8-0 at the end of the first.

Inge is an absolute disaster at 2nd; there was a ball hit to him with a man on first, he decided to try and tag the runner, it was taking too long so he threw it to first, and the throw sucked so it pulled Fielder of the bag.  Should have been a double play and they got no outs.

Porcello proceeded to give up four hits in the next five batters and ended up throwing 47 pitches in just the first inning.

Inge made the right play but executed terribly; bad throw to first. Inge also butchered a playable ground ball because he was trying two turn to when it probably wasn't going to happen anyway.

Not to beat a dead horse, but when you have a 3rd baseman playing 2nd, a 1B playing 3B and two bad corner outfielders, (Young and Raburn), you should expect to be sub par defensively.

Porcello didn't have it today but with good defense the Tigers are still within reason of coming back in this game. As it stands now, poor pitching and poor defense has put this game out of reach.

Do you not understand what I wrote. Far from trying to exonerate Inge, I said he made two bad plays costing the Tigers dearly.
As far as Cabby, I love the guy, and he can play 3B all year, but I would never describe his D thus far as spectacular.

I think a big factor in our lineup not exactly being what everyone though they'd be is Boesch. He has been off to a pretty slow start so far this year. He was supposed to have a break out year and hopefully he will get it going, but right now he's not getting on base enough. Leyland might want to give some thought to moving him out of that 2 spot.

Why would Leyland ever start Inge over Santiago. "Against left handers" doesn't make much sense when Ramon is a switch hitter, a better second basemen, and while not a great hitter is a lot better than Brandon "Strikeouts are an overrated stat" Inge.

It would have been an ugly first anyhow, but Inge made it much worse.

And damn Texas is just an incredible, top-to-bottom, five-tool baseball team.

One good thing that came from the 1st game is that after Schlereth gave up another dinger to Napoli, he was sent down to Toledo.  May he stay there forever.

Oh nice play Inge. I don't think that counts as an error, but that's his second missed play of the day. Absolutely no reason to be playing at the major league level.
