OT: Tigers-Yankees Game 4 open thread
Anyone know of a stream? Fuck being in class during this.
people should really start to bookmark these websites
Cibathia on pace for a 189 pitch game. It's ok though, he'll have over 100 days of rest.
As a Yankee fan: fuck. he won't be able to pitch on 2 days rest in Game 5. On the other hand, there won't be a game 5. I'm just hoping they lose now so this embarrassing postseason ends without further games and A-Rod/Granderson talk (except A-Rod trade talk, that's always welcome if true). Go Tigers!
As a Yankee fan, i'm hoping it ends today. No reason to postpone the execution. Team looks lost out there and now Tex, one of the best fielding first baseman just made 2 errors (unless you believe the scorer's nice benefit to fielder).
It'll be nice to stop talking about A-Rod ineptitude (and hopefully get rid of him for a turkey sandwich), Rob Deer - oops, I mean Granderson, Swisher, etc.
That inning really inflated Scherzer's pitch count. He isn't on pace to make it through the 6th now, which is a big deal with our pen.
Chavez is a 2-time Golden Glove winner? I've never seen a more pathetic fielder.
Wow defensive edge is clearly in the tigers favor this series. Who would have thunk it? I know people have already commented how homer the broadcast is towards yankees struggling hitting instead of tigers dominating SP. Its worth noting again though.
the commentary insanely off-kilter? I just assumed it was some New York feed. Anyway, when the Tigers are making the commentators eat crow inning in and inning out, it ain't all bad.
At least they've stopped saying, "The Yankees are never out of a game! Almost too relaxed," ad nauseum.
EDIT: I HATE the Yankees, but can't help feeling badly for Sabathia here. Ouch.
Turner Broadcasting System is a subsidiary of Times Warner who pretty much runs shit in NYC, think Comcast in Michigan. That could have something to do with it.
...I thought the Yankees looked old during last year's playoffs. How the hell did they manage to win the division this year? Sure, Boston imploded but Tampa is a damn good team.
Yankees are old and are used to being able to coast he last 7-10 days of the season in order to get ready for playoffs. The Orioles forced them to play everyday and then played them in a tough 5 game ALDS, where multiple games went 12-13 innings. Yankees just ran out of juice and if not for Ibanez they would not have beat Baltimore to even get here. Go Tigers!!!!
This game is over.
Looking Very Good through 4 innings....7 K's! Yankees look disinterested or OLD...maybe both? Too bad the Orioles couldn't have scored a few more runs....they may have given Detroit a little better series? I definitely don't think they would have got swept, which seems to be the result of this series.
There we go! Finally putting some runs on the board, especially earlier in games.
....Cabrera says hello!!!
for the ages.
EDIT: I started feeling sorry for Sabathia way too early!
Cabrera absolutely crushed that pitch. MVP!!!
This could get ugly. Me like.
Peralta hits it out. 6-0.
Batting practice for the tigers!
So Professor, have you warmed to Leyland or do you still want him gone?
I see ya Jhonny
Ok, do we make a game of in & bring in Valverde for the 5th inning? Give'em at least a sporting chance?
Stop it Delmon
This...this is going quite well.
Stop it Peralta
Stick a fork in 'em. Sabathia's tossing beach balls.
Stop it dirks
It's a real shame the Yankees shut down during this series. I would have liked to see a series longer than 4 games.
Lot of time off for the Tigers, that could be a good thing...or a bad thing. Anyways, good luck to them in the World Series
...definitely a bad thing 2006.
Not necessarily a long wait. Cards Giants could end tomorrow.
And CC is done.
6-0...I am going to have to take my mother-in-laws broom to complete my sweep celebration!
Other than the 4 runs Valverde gave up in game 1, it's been total domination. Do the Yanks even have the will left to manage a hit today? Wow!
Not cool man..
Scherzer is on a strict 100 pitch limit, so no harm done. Unless you think our bullpen can come in for three hitless innings... lolz.
Just giving him a hard time. It would be nice for Scherzer to leave the game with it regardless if it holds though.
Right now, Tigers' starting pitchers have a series ERA of 0.33 and a WHIP of 0.75. Totally insane.
Who would have guessed that the pitcher who got the Tigers bats going would be CC freakin' Sabathia? This team is truly built for the post-season and I for one feel real good about their chances.
Me too, I'd put it somewhere around 50/50!
TBS takes it to a new low after that one.
The mood here in NYC is, um, muted so far. This definitely feels like a team that people have given up on.
Can't blame 'em when it would appear that the first people to give up on the Yankees were the Yankees.
something special to watch, or what?
The Yankees should just give up and get no-hit
Pathetic offense from them
It's looking like they have given up.
...when the Pistons just demolished the Lakers.
That Lakers team was 100x the team this Yankees squad is, plus that was actually in the NBA finals. But I can sorta kinda see what you're saying =P.
This pitching staff is almost as dangerous as that 2004 defense. Damn
At what point does the pitch count become too high forcing Leyland to pull Scherzer. And yes I know he is pitching 'great'.
Supposedly he is on a 100 pitch limit. With his recent shoulder issues I would say that holds. In order for him to finish the game he would have to go well over 100 so..
Does Craig Sager dress like that so he can be used as a navigational reference? Is there a clear answer on this?
Well, no-hitter is over. Good effort Scherzer
If the game stays non competitive do you guys think Leyland should put Valverde in there in the 9th to get him ready for next series, or put Coke in to continue getting him experience in the closer role?
Depends on the how you define "close" - that definition is very vague when Valverde is involved
Valverde. And I'll bet Leyland does it, too. I think you gotta get him a no-pressure kind of inning. The boost to the psyche of potentially putting the finishing touches on the pennant in front of a wildly happy home crowd could be big.
I agree with this completely. Put him out there with a good lead and give him a chance to get some action and get some confidence back.
I like putting in Valverde here but he's never been great in non-save situations. That said Peralta!
Very Ballsy performance by max.
I want that the next time the Yankees start seeing the Tigers as possible playoff opponents they break out in cold sweats.
You know, walking back to the dugout after his strikeout, Curtis Granderson seemed somewhat nonplussed, and Girardi seemed genuinely upset and hurt at the call. This encapsulates the Yankees emotionally in this series.
this series, good thing it's almost over with. Would it kill them to give the Tigers a decent amount of credit, instead of focusing on what the Yankees haven't done in the series. The Tigers starting staff was on roll before this series, they have been pitching lights out for the last four or five weeks.
THREE MORE OUTS
...like the Yankess most valuable player of the series might be Nunez?!
In 2006 I didn't fully appreciate the postseason run. Just being in the playoffs for the first time in 19 years seemed enough. Now I'm greedy. Let's go all the way!
JHONNY! 8-1 TIGERS!
One or two more runs now because TBS and the Yankees deserve this...
at this point. Peralta has suddenly turned into the hitter he was last year, so far in the playoffs.
8-1...time for Papa Grande?!
Dreading seeing Jimmy throw Valverde out there in the 9th.
If he comes out, he'll be fine. I believe this.
WORLD SERIES FUCKERS!!!!
...the World (Series) go round !!!
Hell yeah !!!
Just saw the score to this. Wow. Was Sabathia brought back too soo, as in were his pitches not up to his normal deadly stuff, or did Detroit just come out blazing and ready to smash anything?? Nicely done though Tigers, glad have the Yankess ousted from the World Series.
pitching on normal days rest with the rainout yesterday.
Tigers smashed him in the 4th, had 2 two-run shots by Miggy and Jhonny to make it 6-0
The New York Yankees--the Detroit Tigers bitch. Three
BLESS YOU BOYS!!!!!!! WORLD SERIES LET'S DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Que viven los Tigres!
Go TIGERS!!!!!!!!!! ""!!!"".
ZOMG I could listen to Peralta talk all night. He's "...really gooooood"
He just can't 'splain it
For the secomd year in a row I want to say Congrats to the Tigers and their fans fans here.(Sigh) Sucks for me but what are you going to do. 90% of the pro Tiger posts here during the series were classy and just fun ribbing. Only a couple were eye rollers and only one acted like a jerk. He enjoyed Jeter's injury and hoped more Yankees got hurt. Only backtracked when rational Tiger fans were like "WTF dude." Anyway, go represent the American league well. I'll be going into football only mode now.
its hard not to get emotional right now...
im gonna weep if we win 4 more.
I love me a Dan Dickerson AL pennant call.
Unfortunately the 2012 Tigers couldn't do this in Game 4...would have been cool to win again on a walk-off. NY just laid down tonight.
I'm rooting for the cardinals to the tigers can BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THEM this time
Man, do I wish I knew how it feels.
SWEEP! TIgers headed to their 11th world series. Loving it! Eat 'em up, Tigers!
Say what you want about Leyland, but he's still enough the shit to stand there with his hand down his pants on national TV.
Fire Leyland!!! Lol.
Dang....Mr. I looks every minute of 82 years old. We better win this one.
He has had heart problems for years.
looks to have one foot in the coffin, better win it this year.
Oh no.....if Leyland turns on the waterworks I'm gonna, too.
Glad Leyland proved me wrong! Go get em tigers
always has been, people need to get off this guys back and realize what a great manager he is.
Jimmy Smokes has won 20 playoff games (and counting). Unreal.
Delmon Young Most Valuable Tree! MVTREE MVTREE!
I was hoping I wasn't the only one who caught that. If Mr. I is knocking on the door then the trophy presentation lady isnt far behind.
Congrats to the Tigers. Two straight years in the ALCS, and in the World Series again
Good luck in WS
Great win. I walked by a couple of bars on my way home from work and people have basically resigned themselves by the 4th inning. Tigers look really solid, and unlike in 2006 they'll know what to expect going forward. I kind of want St. Louis to win out so that they get the same rest/rust from the wait.
Series should be interesting - Verlander, Fister, and Scherzer have been dominant this second half of the season, and if Sanchez keeps it going I can't see how St. Louis keeps it going given the mediocre pitching numbers some of their guys have sported. And don't get me started about San Francisco, which inexplicably won that division despite, IME, not looking remotely dominant for most of the year.
We should get Muppets!
Now I need my young college friends to take care of unfinished business on Saturday.....
Jim Leyland has weird Sunday lineups. WEIRD. SUNDAY. LINEUPS. He must be fired immediately.
Hopefully this will be the start of a great weekend of sports. I'm flying tonight out of Vegas to go to the Saturday's game.
Best. .GIF. Ever!
Man, something must've happened off camera to really piss him off. Good thing Laird is there to calm him down or that could get ugly.
Here's to the beginning of a great sports weekend!
Growing up in the 90's, I never thought I'd see the Tigers be in the playoffs, much less in the World Series. Here's hoping we can come through this time
of the reason for your first post.
This game reminded me of game 7 between the Wings and Avs in 2002 and loved every second of both!
One of my favorite moments as a Wings fan. Sticking it to Roy and the Aves like that was a blast.... But Go Tigers!
Just got home from the game, it really seemed like the game was over after the 1st inning and the HR's were just icing on the cake. A special day to be downtown, I made sure to wear my "Fergodsakes" shirt underneath my Polando jersey.
I am flying back from the East Coast for games 3 and 4. Let's go Tigers!
Let's roar like '84 !!!!!!!!!
I missed the game but had a blast coaching the last game of the season. I'm a JV football coach and we put on a clinic tonight in a blowout. Good night all around.
