OT Tigers vs Yanks 4-28-12

Submitted by Blue boy johnson on

Tigers up 6-1 in second. Freddy Garcia showcased the worst stuff I've ever seen for a MLB pitcher and didn't make it thru the second. Garcia was literally lobbing the ball across the plate. A couple of Tigers were caught looking at called third gopher balls but Leyland quickly got the situation rectified.
This game is by no means over
Dirks just made a nice running catch in Left that Delmon wouldn't have got near. Icing on the cake to go along with his three run jack in the first

Drew Smyly looking nothing like a 22 year old on the mound, I didn't think his stuff was good and his breaking ball was this sharp, very happy to say that pegged him wrong from the start. His ceiling looks like it could be much higher than a 5th starter. Jackson having a good series, and Dirks defense has been very good in left.

At some point, as Verlander says, these guys will start blowing up. We're getting teased by the possibilities of which we saw evidence the first week of the year. I still get a bad feeling whenever I see Coke warming up in the bullpen, but once Fister is back I don't think pitching is going to be as much of a trying endeavor. These guys need to hit the ball, bottom line.

Yanks have had many a great team, ( 98 Yanks probably best baseball team I've seen) but this ain't one of them. Tigers are better than these guys. Yanks have a good team but they aren't intimidating anybody this season

Craig Monroe said it best on the post game report, Smyly changed eye levels all day and came inside and outside with his fastball. Not only did he have good stuff today, but he was thinking like a vet and really pitched a smart game.

Smyly has been outstanding all month. He's well overdue to lay an egg, so given the way things have been going lately, I thought this would be the one. Shows what I know.

So let me get this straight. Leyland does not use Valverde in the 9th yesterday and goes with Villareal instead, who has no business being in the majors at this point. We do use Valverde today in a 7-2 game and watch him throw 30-some-odd pitches, turning the game into a circus, and rendering him unavailable for tomorrow and possibly Monday. *shakes head*

Oh, and Andy Dirks should be the everyday left fielder until further notice. Same thing with Danny Worth at 2B. I'm assuming we didn't just bring him to Detroit to sit and observe.
